Alright guys, so I just moved into my new place, and everything is going perfect. I have a full sized bed in need of some lady lovin and the roomate that i met is a pretty awesome person. Studies cryogenetics and plays badminton on sundays. A real bamf. Anyway so i get here and realize that my phone carry virgin mobile T.T gets barely reception, to the point of not getting calls and text sporadically. They say i'm supposed to get good coverage, not nooo coverage. So for the seattle people or people attending UW,(I live in u-village) are there any decent affordable cell phone plans? and do you guys have any reccomendations?

P.S an actual blog about moving out will come out in the next week once i get everything ready.

Welcome to Seattle! I run a weekly TL meetup on Tuesdays if you want to meet some new people.

My current phone plan is with AT&T. It's a pay as you go plan, $25 for 3 months. You pay 10 cents a minute, 20 cents a text, and 1 cent per 5KB data. It's a really good deal if you don't use data or communicate a lot. Otherwise their $25 a month plans are pretty good as well.

If you want the best quality phone service while in your home you should use a free voip service like google voice. Answer all calls/texts via computer with crystal clear quality, and when you're out and about all services are equally crappy on average.

I've found that ATT/T-mobile/Verizon all have their advantages and disadvantages. It can get quite annoying because one of them may not have reception in one tiny area that you happen to be around a lot. I live in the U-district and haven't really had any problems with verizon, but they tend to be a bit expensive, so I'm not quite sure what affordable plans would be best.

verizon has the best service by far from my experience. tmobile has dog shit service, but is much cheaper. you're on your own and you shouldnt be wasting money on a land line. i'd venture to say you probably want unlimited texting and like 400ish minutes. see if you can pull up your minutes usage for the past 6 months to figure out what you need.

My minute usage is pretty nonexistant. As for free VOIP, i signed up for google voice about a week ago. Do you guys know how long it takes to actually get a number? Are there any other good voip stuff out there as well?

EDIT: So for google voice, it seems i don't have to wait for it if i already have an existing phone number. When i signed up for it i didn't have my phone yet which is why it will probably take a long time to get voice. I can either use my current number as google voice. This terminates my contract with virgin mobile, but it happens to be no contract anyway so not a big loss. Or i can do the light version and give everyone my google voice number instead. I think i will wait a little bit until the end of the month. Get google voice, and then change my number on virgin mobile if i can. seems to give me the best of everything. Thanks guys!

any other suggestions?
