Todays segment will be more focused on the Esports aspect .
Now if you know me I’m all about the doom and gloom, but that doesn’t mean the doom and gloom affects me as a Starcraft 2 player and spectator.
You’d be delusional if you were thinking that SC2 is doing better than ever and we have nothing to worry about. The term “sc2 is dying/dead” is pretty common if you go to twitch.tv chats, TL, or Reddit and it frustrates me a little.
SC2 will never die or is even “dying”, I prefer the term SC2 is not growing. Maybe that’s a half glass of water/half empty glass of water perspective, but it is a more positive way to look at SC2 esports.
Our community is SO strong its actually ridiculous. We have about ~160k reddit subscribers, and League of legends has ~335k. Now seeing that there are like ~4 million SC2 copies sold(don’t quote me), and about 35+million LoL accounts, I think we have one hell of a community.
As you have seen of late that KESPA and KESPA teams are doing a huge shuffling around. We have already STX Soul Shutting down and Woojin Stars supposedly going under also. Obviously this is not a case of starcraft growing, but once again let us refrain from using the word “dying.”
If you want to make a career in Esports as a professional gamer, please try LoL(?)
That’s the general mindset currently in the Esports community. LoL is where the fame, fans, money, and stardom is currently at, though not necessarily true, that is why I put a question mark.
League of Legends is HEAVILY saturated. For a good few months I really tried to “go pro” in League of Legends. It’s really a fantastic game with high level depth strategy, but there are so many problems with the actual “going pro” deal.
1. The community.
Holy shit, the people that you play with are trolls, you will most likely encounter trolls in the lower leagues for a very long time. This makes the overall game experience bad and long.
I would get into this, but even if you have not played the game you have heard of the horror stories.
2. The difficulty of being a “semi-pro”.
The LoL system does not really offer anything to the amateur teams. If you make it in the LCS, grats you can now get popular. There are countless of no-name guys trying to make it for that LCS spot, for that salary. Other than that congrats that you are Challenger(GM) League. And part 2 of this EVEN if you are in the LCS and you fall out, no more support from RIOT, try again next quals. Not many teams are like EG, Fnatic where they have a salary and so forth so they do not have much to fall back on.
3. Streaming
a) if you are a Girl (like most cases in Esports) you are automatically entered into the “easy start up stream” package. NO I am not hating, but it is no surprise that females have an easier time getting popular in Esports, I mean they are the minority and pretty :3 I personally don’t watch many female streams, but I can see why they can be more popular(also attracts other girl gamers to the streams)
b) The major reasons is that there are WAY TO MANY streams. I feel at this point it is almost impossible to become a “popular streamer” on LoL without being a pro player. When you click on the LoL-Twitch section + Show Spoiler + You have so many channels to choose from, and most up and starting Streamers have 15-20 viewers, the amount of scrolling it takes to actually get to your channel is so far away only friends/family will most likely be watching your stream. I think this is the reason why Pros get up to 35k views because why go anywhere else when there is a good stream right at the front page.
The great thing about SC2, having 20-30 viewers(like me) will get you sometimes even on the front page!(I stream after 10pm EST when all the pro gamers disappear from streaming usually) and I like tuning into other “non-featured” streams now ever since a lot of pros kind of just disappeared in the nightly streams.
When a Door Closes another one opens:
Well the thing about teams closing, players retiring, and less streamers its opens doors!
Now the players that have been trying to show their worth for a long time can finally come on in!
Hell when SC2 was hip and shit I got like 5 viewers. Now I'm actually getting 20-30 with regulars coming back to the stream. My personal goal is to get 100 viewers. That sounds so awesome having a small lecture hall of people watching you stream, its pretty crazy if you think about it.
Im actually thinking about doing a bi-weekly/monthly article about what "non-featured" streamers to watch. I think there is alot of great talented streamers out there just waiting to get more popular only a matter of time!
Whats up with me on the KR server recently.
Well I am still doing well I ended last season with just a little under 2k points(1997) with rank10 not bad with not playing much on KR first few weeks of KR, literally had to work my way from 99th to 10th.
The other day I actually i beat (ex)AZUBUTOP the other day :D. Im 90% it is him, he was a 9x KR grandmaster. and im consistently beating now ex-GMs(I dont know if they were GM's last season my client is in KR and I hate clicking around to find it) But here is a SS of the victory!
+ Show Spoiler +
I have invented a(id like to say) a 3 base ling bling all in timing that beat CC 1st 95% of the time.
I will make a video on it soon, but pretty much it is scout at 12(check for CC 1st of 1rax no gas) then take 3 hatch before pool, 17g, next gas at 6 mins, bane nest at 620. Go to about X/86 supply of OV's then mass lings.
It still needs a little work on the amount of gas I need to mine, but it is almost perfect.
The bane bust did kill him(my 78 supply vs his 18) but he did not leave the game and tried his best to come back(and he did a really good job trying to also) I was going to try kill him earlier, but I did not want to risk it.
I am aiming for top8 this season, and already am this season, just hoping to keep it as the season goes through. I feel you need to play on the KR server everyday or you will lose your spot in top8.
I think thats all for K & E # 3. Come back for #4 whenever I feel like writing the next one!
