Every game you are given so and so amount of money to purchase units, and the thing that continuously irks me is the overwhelming majority of people who do not use all of their money and insist on having 10,000 leftover bucks and an army of poor quality. It boggles my mind, and another thing I have to complain about is how long it takes to set up a game. First, people must select units to compose their army....and it doesn't take that long since you have at most something around 15 different units to choose from. Unfortunately, it takes far longer than it should. Let's say, 5-10 minutes. Then comes the deployment phase where you just put whichever units you want in your territory wherever which amazingly feels like an eternity. The worst part is when a person disconnects, and if 1 person disconnects, then you can't just drop the person like in StarCraft. No, if a person disconnects, you have to quit the game yourself along with everyone else or wait for the end of time hoping that the person will connect again. If you have 1 bad connection, it ruins the game for everyone! What's worst is the battle.net of RTW which is gamespy, notorious for its loading screens that freeze when you try to join a multiplayer game. It's uncommon, but not rare!
I now realize that this has become a rant, and to be fair RTW is not a bad game. The game play is sound, the graphics are spot on, but there are numerous problems that plague multiplayer, mostly induced by the players and not the game itself. The loading screens though are a pain. It was rated as best game of the year by some PC Gamer website. Well, I have let many of my frustrations out about Rome Total War. I feel so relieved.
Going onto another topic: anime. What beautiful, beautiful entertainment. Heart wrenching almost. I thought I'd share a song from one of my favorite animes: Neon Genesis Evangelion. The song below is sad, heartwarming, and capturing a theme of Evangelion which is to not be alone. Several examples of Evangelion's western influences are seen in its biblical symbols and classical music. Evangelion, a unique anime that is not the newest, but most definitely one of the freshest.
An anime movie that caught my attention was "5 Centimeters Per Second" written, produced, and directed by Makoto Shinkai. I was thinking for 2 days about how I was going to describe the greatness of this movie, but I have no words and I've decided to give up. 5 Centimeters Per Second is a beautiful movie of love, sadness, and gives a lethal dose of reality. The animation is incredibly high quality each frame with very good attention to detail, a spiritual journey that will stretch your heart to the limit, and great music. You'll be in tears at the end. It's so good, that it's been listed as anime you should watch before you die. It's that good.
Why thank you, viewer, for enduring my RTW rant and reading about my thoughts on some anime. Have a pleasant day.
