The Game
+ Show Spoiler +
Starting up a dia vs dia level game, spawning on the map Zerus Prime. Both of our openers appear to be the same (2 gas on 15, keeping only 2 on gas for a while) except that my enemy decides to get 3 stalkers while I instead get up 2zealots, a sentry, and an MSC.
I always like to make myself 2 zealots and a sentry because using the holdposition command, I can do some cute maneuvers like this.
Pew pew!
The 2 zealots on the ramp are able to be put just far enough apart to prevent a stalker from walking in, and then the sentry can go ahead and seal off their escape path! Zealots, of course, are far superior to stalkers when un-microed, so if done correctly this can be a nice little win early game. I actually messed up the force field, lost the sentry, and allowed them to walk right into my base... so no I didn't play that perfectly, but I almost did!
Last second photon overcharge, whataaah!
Afterwards, we both decide to go into phoenix production. My scouting phoenix very nearly avoids getting caught out by his 2 phoenixes. As far as my experiences go, allowing the enemy to get the first phoenix kill usually ends up as a loss since I'm too stubborn to quit phoenix production.
run run run run run run run run
And so my enemy prepares for his first offensive. Having scouted the lack of expansion and 3 gateways, I assumed he would be trying to pressure me and I managed to pump out a superior number of phoenixes as well as get up some sexy immortals.
Army composition, accompanied by a complement from clan member.
Scary army D: It's too bad that income can't kill units without production, eh? but it's ok, I have OP immortals on my side!
While his army is superior at first glance, The battle goes more favorably than I expected. Positioning advantage, as well as some slight micro advantage (his phoenix die before mine) and unit composition advantage give me the edge the battle. Just as some bonus points, my income is far superior to his because he committed to the attack.
BOOM I'm an immortal BOOM BOOM
Wow did that look like it was going to go down hill, but those immortals really did a number on his stalker count. That huge bonus makes immortals essentially a dedicated anti-stalker unit in PvP. Mentor Immortal finally goes down, but thanks to him the base was saved.
8 kills, definately worth it.
I decided that I now had an advantage (mostly through my immortal count) and so I decided to go in for the win. Switch from phoenix to voidray production to bolster my overall damage output, and move out. Oh yeah, and there was an oracle harrassing my probes.
8 kills!? Ouch.
In the end, the income gap that I created during his first attack allowed my production to soar above his, making a great unit composition to just beat down his forces.
Too many beams for my blood.
And so I got a satisfying win ^^! Not much that I learned except to not fuck up my force field while using 2 zealot/sentry defense in the early game.
I just realized, that I've been using medium quality for the pictures! THAT SHALL BE CHANGED! Prepare yourselves for HQ pictures from next time on! I wish I could play at ultra graphics, but I sure can't with this internet! Have a great day, and thanks for reading!
