The best part about this is that when we're deciding what stage to play, it's easy for us to settle on one we both like. Or we go random. Either way, there's a conversation before hand where we settle what map we're going to play by agreeing through discussion or stage striking or we just hit random and fucking go at it. There's conversation bits before and after relating to the game or just funny shit you thought of while playing. This doesn't happen very often, if at all in SC2.
I think Blizzard should implement their matchmaking differently. First, the veto system should happen AFTER you get matched with your opponent. This gives you the ability to want to practice a certain map or even settle on a map with your opponent where both of you feel comfortable. Not only that, but this would give opponents a chance to talk to each other before the game. Some peopl will still be assholes, and I get that, but I think a lot more people are going to be more willing to get to know someone after they've had a 30 second or minute conversation with them before the game.
Not only that, but we've all wanted to take a small break before hitting the orange button of doom. How bad ass would it be to know that you have easily a minute before every game regardless to bull shit around, or talk to the opponent, or get your music going. You don't have to use it to talk to them, but I think more people will feel like they're part of a community of players, than just solo laddering.
It could be pretty similar to LoL's matchmaking. I know that's a team game, and you can only chat with the opponent after the countdown begins (actually, i thought you could before but someone told me that wasn't true yesterday - i haven't played in months so I don't remember). But instead of picking champions, you would ban maps back and forth until you settled on a map to play on. Then you can briefly meet your opponent, wish them GL, and get straight into the game.
I'm not going to write a neato conclusion or anything. This is something I thought of yesterday and was wondering people's opinions.
