So I've spent the last 2 and a half years of my SC2 life as part of the Swarm, this would stem even further to my days playing iccup (albeit failing and never getting past D+) but its good to remember especially on such a joyous occasion such as this, Christmas Eve/Christmas that there's always something to gain from continual effort.
After many seasons I, like many players hit a road block in my play where as I find hard to overcome. I won't say I'm diamond (because I'm not and I won't try to justify just because everyone I matched up against was Diamond, in the end I'm still plat.) Regardless I would sit matched up against Diamond players sometimes beating them, sometimes failing hard but a certain part of my play never really ADVANCED to push through towards my goal of getting to Diamond. My continual effort started to fade and I became one of the many spectators while only playing maybe 5-10 ladder games per season.
This season came at a much needed time, whereas I felt school and life was starting to stress me out so I decided to play more and more, and due to being rusty - lose more and more. Only plus was my #1 Broodwar mancrush Jaedong switched over and started doing alright for himself in SC2.
So after much deliberation and much thought, along with other obvious new years resolutions(grades, relationships, etc) to start anew.
I decided to negotiate with Parting in order to retrieve my soul from the Swarm (aka. I switched to Protoss.)
I had a few reasons to at least experiment with this idea. My favorite SC2 player to date is still Liquid`HerO and watching him play is just mesmerizing in itself, granted I feel like its nearly impossible to mimic his play and style as a platinum noobie but the very fact that watching MAKES you WANT to play is astounding. I don't know about you but he made me want to play SC2. Another player I can probably say does this is Life, a player who also has his own unique style that propels others to try and mimic. After seeing HerO win Dreamhack and NASL4 with fantastic play I decided I wanted to try out some of HerO's builds and study his replays to learn. I also used to watch a lot of Grubby's stream and nowadays have been avidly following Naniwa's stream as well.
For me, zerg playstyle at my platinum level was pretty one dimensional just a standard 3 base turtle into hive tech and then ofc the standard Broodlord/Infestor army to win the majority of my games. I tried for nydus plays and different roach styles but none of those seem to work very well for me haha.
So then this winter break (about a month long yay college!) I decided to pick up playing Protoss on ladder and my records actually pretty bad(14-19 thus far) but with this I hope to try and reignite my love for playing the game even if it means I lose MMR and I lose more games because in the end I still love this game but still want the thrill of competition. I'm not really sure why I wrote this out other than to just let my thoughts flow but here's to another season of playing and becoming a ladder warrior! :D
Merry Christmas/Christmas Eve!
