Exactly a year ago, I began writing. New to the pro-scene and fresh from my first LAN/MLG, I started to tell stories. I’m so happy that a year later, I’m still up to the same shit. This blog is just to send some thanks to people who’ve helped me.
First and foremost, a shout-out to the kid whose off-hand remark led me to my obsession: thanks to my friend Fallen. He’s one of the little guys, fighting the good fight of upcoming talent. We’ve watched hundreds of tournament matches, applied for Complexity Academy, admired BroodWar matches, and laughed at my horrible Protoss iCCup builds. He’s my SC2 wingman; texting me when our mutual crush Seltzer is giving an interview or letting me know that my boy SeleCT is retiring. Much love to my SC2 mentor.
Second I’d like to thank my best friend JMS. She encouraged me when I first floated the idea of blogging and became editor for about 90% of everything I’ve written. Only recently have I felt I learned enough from her tutelage to post on my own. Her mark-upped drafts would mix grammar knowledge bombs with hilarious tags about my plentiful mistakes. I often declared that my first drafts were written correctly, only to have her scoff and chide me back into reality.
Next, shoutouts to iNcontroL and EG. They inspired my first posts and Incontrol continued to be a fixture to me. I’ve had countless hours of entertainment from State of the Game, enjoyed Incontrol’s Dreamhack commentary, and laughed at EG’s announcement videos. EG has continued to pick up my favorite players and the best part is, they’ve kept their core players. I always felt that it was key to keep players around so that the fans can learn to love their teams.
Thanks to GanZi, Heart, SeleCT, ThorZaIN, Goswser, and Fitzyhere. They took a few minutes to talk to me at MLGs and reminded me of the community’s uniqueness. In no other professional scene or sport can you so easily interact with the players. I still remember embarrassing Select by being a fan-boy and asking for a picture.
Thanks to anyone I met at MLG Providence 2011 and MLG Columbus 2012.
Thanks to JC for teaching me how to proofread my own work.
Thanks to anyone whose read my blog and anyone who commented.
And of course thank you Ares, Nazgul, and anyone else who runs TeamLiquid.
For my future goals, I’d like to keep it simple:
I hope to make it to my second anniversary. And I hope to follow in Biggie’s footsteps. To quote him, “Stay busy, stay working…the key to staying on top of things is to treat everything like it’s your first project. Like you’re an intern, like it’s your first day. Just stay humble.”
Here’s to another year.
