Today we are doing a DOx player proflie. Matt Wotipka aka DOxButton
DOxReyder: Say Hi Matt
DOxButton: Whats up guys
DOxButton:
DOxReyder: Matt has been with DOx since august and has done alot for the Clan. He has done so well in fact the he is Dark Onyx's first Admin. We will get to that a little bit later for now. Matt the world wants to know. Where did your handle come from?
+ Show Spoiler +
DOxButton: By handle, I'm assuming you mean gamertag? haha. Well years ago in my early college days a friend of mine found out that I do NOT have a belly-button (true story). And almost instantly the nickname "TheButton" came out. I have recently resurrected the name and use it as my primary username.
DOxReyder: I'll never look at you the same again.....lol jk
DOxButton: Most people don't lol
DOxReyder: Many of the readers may or may not know that you recently changed your tag. It used to be Scynthias. Where did that name come from and what prompted the resurrection of Button?
+ Show Spoiler +
DOxButton: Scynthias was a name that honestly, was just a random generated name in WoW that I thought sounded cool. I still use it for my image. But over time, it got a bit old, and the name didn't really I guess "fit" anything about me.
DOxReyder: well Button sure is a hell of a lot easier to pronounce
DOxButton: Yeah just a tad haha
DOxReyder: well Button sure is a hell of a lot easier to pronounce
DOxButton: Yeah just a tad haha
DOxReyder: So you play WoW, which came first for you WoW or SC?
+ Show Spoiler +
DOxButton: SC did, but not by much. To be honest I played very little SC. I came in well after BW came out.
DOxReyder: What about BW sucked you in?
DOxButton: I have always loved RTS games, so BW fit in well for me. A lot of my friends played. But what really pulled me into BW was the same things that keep me in SC now: the seemingly
limitless possibilities and strategy.
DOxReyder: Yea it's all about that meta game. can't get enough myself
DOxReyder: How much do you pay attention to the "Scene" i.e. tournaments, teams, players?
+ Show Spoiler +
DOxButton: A fair amount. I wouldn't say I watch everything but I watch a lot of Husky, some Day 9. I'll also tune into some of the tournament lives treams From time to time. And
of course I follow my favorite players quite a bit.
DOxReyder: Who is your favorite player(s)?
+ Show Spoiler +
DOxButton: I kind of have a favorite for each race: MC, Stephano, and MarineKing. But of course if I had to pick an ultimate favorite I have to go with my Protoss favorite: MC haha.Gotta represent my Protoss.
DOxReyder: maybe you work for the BOSS TOSS one day. im sure the man needs his coffee
DOxButton: He doesn't need any coffee have you seen him in that murloc suit?
DOxReyder: lol
DOxReyder: perhaps he needs a relaxing message
DOxButton: I dunno if I like him THAT much
DOxReyder: DAT MONEY makes crazy things happen just saying
DOxReyder: So as we know at DOx you are a protoss player. Have you always been a brotoss?
+ Show Spoiler +
DOxButton: Actually no, in what little BW I played I was a Terran and even started as Terran in SC2. I think I played halfway through the first season before making the switch.
DOxReyder: And why did you leave the best race in the game?
DOxButton: MAYBE most OP race in the game haha jk. Seriously though, I really just enjoyed Toss play style more. I played around with all three races off the ladder for awhile, watched a
bit of youtube and kind of fell in love with Toss.
DOxButton: It ended up just being a preference, not really because I felt any race was OP or UP.
DOxReyder: CoughAOEOPCough
DOxReyder: ahem now that i've cleared my throat
DOxReyder: I'm sure the people would like to know. What's your thoughts on the HOTS beta and all the patches/the progress Blizzard is making with the game?
+ Show Spoiler +
DOxButton: When I first say the new stuff I was excited and disappointed simultaneously. The new units all looked amazing but most everyone I heard who had gotten that inside scoop all agreed that protoss just wasn't really up to par with the other races. Recent patches reflect that with all the changes they have made to protoss. Early on I was even considering a switch to zerg
gimply because I did not like the direction protoss was going. However I have been more than impressed with how things have been changed and will likely be sticking with Toss in HoTS. I sure wish I knew someone with a beta key who would be nice enough to share....
DOxReyder: HMM i have a BETA KEY but not sure if im nice enough
MUAHAHAH(evil laugh)
DOxButton:
DOxReyder: Alright well since we got most of the SC2 info on you. Lets get to know Matt more as a person.
DOxReyder: How old are you Matt?
+ Show Spoiler +
DOxButton: 27. I believe the 3rd oldest of DOx.
DOxReyder: probably true. Serial, myself are older. Most players are in their teens.
DOxReyder: Where are you from?
+ Show Spoiler +
DOxButton: Born and raised in Houston, TX.
DOxReyder: I get sticky just thinking of the Humidity.
DOxButton: I would like to say you get used to it...but you really don't. It gets a tad brutal sometimes.
DOxReyder: yea 100 degrees with 100% humidity just kill me now
DOxButton: Ehh, our fall/winter/spring are great though.
DOxButton: If you can just make it through the summer
DOxReyder: doubt it
DOxReyder: Did you attend college?
+ Show Spoiler +
DOxButton: Yes I did, graduated in '09 from the University of Houston.
DOxReyder: What was your degree in?
DOxButton: Restaurant Management
DOxReyder: What made you decide to pursue that field?
DOxButton: I had actually changed majors (about four times). But I was working at the good old Olive Garden: Your endless bread sticks and salad paradise. It was my first job waiting tables and I actually really enjoyed the environment. I was lucky enough to have great managers there as well, so literally the first week of a new semester I went to check out that college, and changed all my classes right there on the spot. The single most spontaneous thing I had ever done.
DOxReyder: Making me very hungry now...but that's really cool that you had the guts to switch it up and finish it off GG
DOxButton: I'm not going to lie it was hard. It is also a very tough industry to be a part of as I came to learn. But I enjoyed my time at college and just glad I got my degree in SOMETHING.
DOxReyder: really all most companies look at now a days. Could have a degree in art and work for a Nuclear Power plant lol
DOxReyder: So now that your out of college and out in the Real World, any job to speak of or pursuit of one?.
+ Show Spoiler +
DOxButton: I am currently in pursuit of a couple different jobs. (Neither of which are in restaurants). I am currently unemployed but I have at least one of those two jobs in the bag so that process should be wrapping up soon.
DOxReyder: awesome gratz hope that works out for you
DOxButton: Thanks!
DOxReyder: Leads me to our next question. Married? Kids? Pets?
+ Show Spoiler +
DOxButton: No/No/ 1 cat.
DOxReyder: Cat's name?
DOxButton: Selene
DOxReyder: the Underworld Vampire?
DOxButton: haha no shes a black cat with very bright green eyes and Selene is the old greek goddess of the moon....
DOxReyder: oooo very interesting
DOxReyder: one of the best classes i ever had in college was Mythology 101 awesome class but i digress
DOxButton: haha
DOxReyder: You recently told the team that you and a few members are going out to MLG Dallas in November. What sort of things are you excited about while your there.?
+ Show Spoiler +
DOxButton: Obviously getting to meet some pros and watch a TON of starcraft. I haven't seen a full list of who is qualifying and what not but hopefully my favorites are there. I have already met Stephano and MC. Hope to meet MaximusBlack from LagTV as well. But myself, Breeze, and Micnasty are all planning on going so it should be a lot of fun.
DOxReyder: Awesome hope you guys to get to spread the DOx word while you are there
DOxReyder: Is this the first MLG you've attended or tournament in general?
+ Show Spoiler +
DOxButton: I did attend Red Bull Battlegrounds in Austin back in late May, but this will be my first MLG event.
DOxReyder: Well bring us something back lol
DOxReyder: Well Matt I think we have all learned a great deal
about you. One last question
DOxButton: Yes I am straight, sorry Rey.
DOxButton: :D
DOxReyder: dang guess ill tell my wife she doesn't have to worry
DOxReyder: Can you describe you experience so far with DarkOnyx? What brought you to the team, what keeps you with the team, what would you tell others about us?
+ Show Spoiler +
DOxButton: I was originally drawn to one of your posts on the Battle.net forums because I have always wanted to be a part of a "team." I was disappointed that Blizzard didn't have
something implemented into the game to assist with this. But that is neither here or there. I was drawn to the aspect of being able to sit down and practice SC2 with a good group of guys and get
instant feedback on how to improve my game without any "ladder anxiety." It has been a blast being here and I have learned a LOT about SC2 by just being here. I would tell others that DarkOnyx has come a long way and would encourage others to join. If nothing else find SOME team because playing with others will not only help your game but also make you new friends.
DOxReyder: Well im glad that the team has worked for you and thank you for the kind words
DOxReyder: With that we will call it a night. I hope everyone enjoys reading about your SC2 career and beyond. Thanks for the Time and see you at practice!
