Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast
Possibly my shortest blog entry yet, but the point is the memory. I think the best thing about this expansion was that you could get your character past level 10, which meant once you imported it into Baldur's Gate 2 you could have a head start on becoming uber powerful.
If you want to find out about the original game I've already blogged about it here: http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?id=341514
Game: Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast Developer: BioWare Platform: PC Release Year: 1999
Basic Plot Tales of the Sword Coast didn't add any new critical/major arcs to the original game. Instead it added some additional areas to explore and conquer and some minor quests to complete, as well as raising the level cap.
Gameplay The original Baldur's Gate is a party based role playing adventure game set in the Forgotten Realms universe. This expansion was identical to the original game in terms of gameplay. The expansion added four new areas:
- Ulgoth's Beard (small town)
- Ice Island
- Werewolf Island
- Durlag's Tower
Overall the expansion is said to add 30-40 hours of gameplay to the original game.
Positives It gave you an opportunity to further advance your character before exporting and importing into Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn.
Negatives It didn't really add anything magical that enhanced the original game other than adding some more content.

This was really a fun game however i could only beat it using a ranger/fighter

As far as I'm concerned, anything Forgotten Realms is cash money. Awesome game, keep em coming!

I only ever played Dark Alliance for the gamecube :/

Lol I first read 'longest blog entry yet' and then i scrolled down to the first post Well, I greatly enjoyed BG2, but never played this. Looks like fun, if my pc would run it without crashes. I think its a shame most of the very old games I used to play take a lot of trouble to get running on all this new hard- and software.

BG was great but I always hated the dungeon designs. Too many narrow corridors where characters get stuck or the path finding gets bugged.

I don't want to be mean but what's the point of this kind of "review" ? Even a wikipedia entry feels more personnal (and way more informative obviously). Your review of Baldur's Gate is lacking to say the least too.

For me, his reviews are a trip down memory lane. I don't really commit that much time to video games anymore, but when I was younger it was my main focus during free time. For instance, a while back he reviewed a Sonics game. I haven't thought about Sonic in over 10 years. However, at the time of its release I played Sonic 2 like crazy with my brother. So when DRT reviews these games, it reminds me of the awesome memories I've had playing them in the past. Maybe he has an ulterior motive for writing these blogs, but that's why I enjoy them, and that's why I'll continue to read them.

The original goal was simply to remind myself all the games I've played in my life - like a little snippet encyclopedia of each. And some blog entries are very long because I have a lot of personal connection with those games or know a lot more about them, others are short - but I need to mention them because they're part of my gaming history. Next post, for example, I'm looking at World of Warcraft: Cataclysm and it will be one of my longest posts to date.
I've had a lot of feedback about going more "in depth" but my blog isn't a review, just a bit of daily nostalgia. Thanks for your input nonetheless Boblion. I do think I could make them a little more personal... like little moments during the game that I can remember.
