Finding an artist partner to develop an indie game

You guys know where those artist fellows could be found? I'm a guy with many talents but visual arts are probably the thing I'm the most terrible at bar none. Something about pencils and brushes that disagrees with my body and/or mind. So naturally I'd like to have someone I could partner with to help me with my video game project.

I only need 2d art and not a lot of it either. I'd commission people I know but I really have no money whatsoever. So I'd need someone like me who needs to prove him (or her) self in their craft, someone who's willing to take a gamble on a startup or simply someone who's passionate about video games and wants to contribute to a project on the side.

If you guys have any tips or leads that would be cool. If I'm being a fool and have no hope of finding someone like that you should let me know too and save me a lot of grief.

Hm I know a website where you may want to try www.gamedev.net they have places to post ads and it's full of all sorts of people from artists to programmers.

Get one of your friends involved.

I've been making amateur games since I was young. Nothing commercial though and this will be my first game leveraging my Computer Science education. Have some friends in the industry helping me out too but they're all programmers.

There are plenty of free lancers around. It's also often possible to find an art student who will do a good job quite cheaply, so you could try that.

Yeah, throwing money at a freelancer would be trivial. What I need is a partner, or someone who will work for equity/percentage of the revenues.

No I'm not that Fyodor btw

You may have better luck by soliciting some art majors at your school. Maybe it is just my area, but people around school have a lot of time on their hands, and they need to beef up a portfolio if they are going to find work.

You can sell the point about it may be profitable or not as well as revenue sharing, but definitely let them know how good it will be on their resume when they can say that they had the initiative to jump into a project like this. Let them know it will show prospective future employers see their drive and passion for their career. Or if you fail with that approach, you can get someone involved and see if they could use it as a design project for school in one of their classes.

Good luck, hope you find someone, can't offer help myself currently, but try maybe conceptart.org? It's a forum filled with artists, might be able to find someone suitable

Hey Fyodor,

It's 2014 and I know it's really late but did you ever get a artist to team with you for your game? Plus I'm in similar situation as you were before except for Im an artist and would love to find someone to make some games with. I'm really curious how you solved your problem.
