I really enjoyed playing Games like Stronghold or Cossacks quite a bit until i started playing World in Conflict which totally captivated me. I was playing the campaign and even the multiplayer for hours back then until Sc2 came out ofc :D

Cossacks here too. Another game I enjoyed was American Conquest (very few people know this game ).

Age of mythology and Empires
THere was a really good warhammer 40k RTS too which I dont know the name of, it's a shame really.
Rise of Legends / Nations also really good
Warcraft 2/3 Starcraft 1/2 are both good for obvious reasons
Red Alert 1 and 2 are both incredibly good, I can also recommend the third one too but other people would speak against me
Either don't pay or pay like 5$ from steam for RA3, its not worth more but it is entertaining, don't search any competition orr balance behind it or anything but it was quite a fun play for me.
The Total War series are quite cheap right now and can be highly reccomended, although they might feel a bit slow for a Starcraft player.
Well since there was a sale on steam today for the total war series I bought it, it was $31.98 for the whole series on steam. IMO that's an AMAZING deal. I would recommend anyone else who like RTS should check out that deal. thanks for all the recommendations though.
For those who enjoy a difficult game that rewards them with depth for hours of learning, there is no better RTS than Supcom FA. You can play for years on the same map and still discover new strategies.
age of mythology for sure if you are into classics. Unfortunately my young eyes cannot stand the shitty graphics anymore so I cannot enjoy the game. I really wish they would come out with a age of mythology 2k12. I could see that game being pretty big if it has the right team behind it!
Myth 1 and 2 are excellent games made by Bungie. There is no economy or unit production, so what you start out with is what you get. The real meat of the game lies in positioning and unit control, and some of the units are ridiculously fun (Dwarves throw molotov cocktails and can lay satchel charges, for instance). There is also a pretty good physics engine in the game, which is impressive, considering how old it is. Also, projectiles are all real objects in the game, so you can pull off things like dodging archer volleys if you're good enough.
The story in the campaign isn't half bad, and I believe there's a small community that still updates the games for new systems. I'm not sure what the multiplayer scene is like anymore though.
The 1st Dawn of War is really fun, explosive game. Make sure to get at least the 2 first expansions.
C&C series till C&C 3 Kane's Revenge is fun, also Red Alert 1 and 2 with Yuri's Revenge.
Giants: Citizen Kabuto is a fun RTS-TPS hybrid, pretty under-rated IMO.
Also for a slow, patient tactical RTS Commandos 1 and 2 are great.
Supreme Commander 1 and Forged Alliance are great games also, I didn't like SupCom 2 as much. Forged Alliance had the best competitive multiplayer potential for a non-Blizzard RTS, the problem was that not many people played it.

Yeah, just watch for C&C also, I'm sure they'll have the whole package on sale again during say the winter sale, if not sooner.
