I was a gold at the time. I basically just put my word out there and
gave it to chance. My goal was and still is to have a friendly environment
in which members can practice builds or mechanics without the pressure
of the ladder and scrutiny of others. Rank was not a constraint.
Little did I know that within the same day i would get over 50 responses
to my threads, and my emails.
I was literally overwhelmed. I wasn't expecting soo much activity
so quickly. It was apparent that there were lower level causal
gamers who wanted help and a team environment.
After the word was starting to get around I set up a channel and had a
meet and greet. It was awesome to talk to soo many players live.
I went from 1 friend on SC too 50 overnight.
It took about a week to widdle the players down and we ended with a nice
solid number of players ranging in skill.
As far as our name goes. I'm not really 100% sure how it came about.
I asked the players for any suggestions. Turns out most didn't care
they were just happy to be a part of something. I basically pulled
the name out of thin air. Dark Onyx. I know its not the most
professional sounding or even the coolest but something just felt
right about it.
So far we've been active since June. We've had moments of high's and lows.
We been up to 30 players and down to 5 and back up to 20ish. The fun thing about all of it
so far is the people we have come to know and become friends with.
This game is much more than simple competition on the ladder. It's about
community and the love of the game. No this isn't baseball or football, but
the idea is the same having fun and making friends.
