Maybe this is just karma.
So here I am, 3am at night, homeless. I lost my keys somewhere and I can't find them. I don't have my cellphone with me either, and I don't remember the my apartment's manager's number on top of my head.
My keys and my wallet are usually in the same pocket in my pants. Today I left my apartment at around 5pm, went to the Ave and had pho, then went to school (to use the campus's wireless internet) until 11pm, then went to do some light grocery shopping at Safeway, then I went home and discovered that I had no keys. I traced back my steps to school (pho place is closed right now) and couldn't find my keys. It is unlikely that I will be able to go home tonight.
I really hope I can get another set of keys tomorrow. I am going to the PAX on Friday (i.e. happening in 31 hours)... and I do want to be able to take a shower and have a change of clothes before I go...
UGH./......!!!!!
At the end it's my fault. My key chain recently got a lot lighter than it usually is, which is probably how I manage to lose it.
I am probably going to camp outside of my apartment tomorrow morning so I can ask my neighbours and get the manager's number. Then I am going to call him nonstop (from a public phone, yay -_-) until he gives me a spare set of keys...

This is why I make sure I still have my keys every ten minutes when I'm out of my house.

And this, too.
Well it's 3:18am. I need survive until at least 7-8AM so I can hunt my neighbours down and get the manager's number. Now how exactly do I survive for another 4-5 hours with only a laptop on battery power....
It's kind of cold right now, too. I am only wearing short sleeves and the Seattle night is actually kind of chilly.

You have food (groceries), so as much as this may suck, its not that bad. More importantly, if you don't have your phone on you HOW ARE YOU POSTING ON TL?

Oh dear I always do the patting of my pockets everywhere i go. Before i leave work i check my keys are in my pocket, but for me it helps i have a car, i never can leave anywhere without my car keys, plus i cant lock the office without my car keys, which all has my house key on it xD
However, there was a funny time in my school time.
My brother is 3 years older than me and was in his last year of school, and i was going into my 2nd year, i was home before him waiting for him to open the house with his key and he was coming up the street into the Cul De Sac and saw me waiting outside. He is a bit of a numpty at times and well he thought it would be an amazing idea to throw the key to the house from the bottom (about 100yards? maybe a bit further) to me outside the door....and well lets say the key went over our neighbours fence. Not only did it go over but it only just went over the fence into like a billion bushes so we had no chace of finding it, and the next person home would not be home for another 1hour or so >.<
Luckily, my dad and his brother are really and he lives 3 doors away from us and he finished work at 3pm and we went down to his house and got our spare key and let ourselves in xD but yes, the ability to lose a key has never happend to me because it just doesn't xD but that was one time when i was stranded.

Whenever I lock myself out of my home, there's a ~60 foot tall hemlock tree that grows by the side of our house.
I climb up, jump onto the roof, and go in through an open window, locking it behind me.
So far, none of my neighbors have called the police, and no thief has broken in, so it works out well.

Have you ever been in that situation where you lost your keys and your mobile?
A where me keys? A where me phone? A where me keys? A where me phone?

Any German here who knows the translation to Schlüsseldienst? Basically you call someone who will break into your house/apartement (often times not even breaking the lock). Is way overpriced (100 euros or something among those lines) but is a very quick and convinient option.

If you can get a knife try putting it in the gap between the window and the frame and levering it open that way. Your manager might be a bit pissed but better that sitting outside in the cold.

Can't you think of any way to reach a locksmith?
I locked myself out twice, once I managed to leverage the gate with a branch to at least wait for my parents inside the garage, the other I opened the gate and tossed the key through the window just to realise it was the last key outside.

locksmith
I got way too hammered once and lost my keys out so I had to fork over like 80 bucks for a locksmith as well as the cost for a new lock after it was broken

The reason I could post on TL was that I was outside of a school building and I could piggyback on the school's WIFI from the outside.
Anyway, I managed to get back after the 9 hours ordeal. It turned out I left my key ON MY MAILBOX. FUUUUUUUUUUUU
At least I am glad that my neighbours decided to not burglarize me while I was stuck outside. Honestly, it could have easily happened.

well once u get into ur apartment you ain't sleeping son......that key is still out there................ edit: oops didnt read last post nice find!!!

the only solution is to party all night brah
oh doh i didn't see that last post. what an anticlimactic ending.

Got my keys stolen from me like two weeks ago, possibly interrupted a burglary attempt that night too. Glad nothing bad happened to you. You've got some nice neighbours. I know people who'd still change the locks in such a situation.
