Personal Opinion on MMORPGs

Today I chose to talk about MMORPGs.

Personally I've had a really hard time getting hooked on one because of several reasons. The two main ones being grinding with clunky gameplay and a lack of emphasis on Story and Character development. I know those two problems are very hard to tackle in MMOs because of their sheer size, but I do think that nailing them can happen with proper designs and concepts.

Recently I played the Guild Wars 2 beta and I think that might be the game to skew my interests positively towards MMORPGs. I really enjoyed the fluidity of the Combat & emphasis on your character's story. Hopefully the end product can successfully project those concepts into full force.

So what are your experience like with MMORPGs? Like them? hate them?

Used to play a lot of MMOs and I loved the progression, in-community drama that was so petty, it was hilarious. I loved MMOs because it meant a smaller society that shifts and works with one another either economically or in cooperation towards something competitive (Arena, PvP, etc).

My biggest issue with MMOs is my own experience and personality. When I get into a community, I'm 100% in it and that's taken a lot of years and time in my life. I also can't platy a MMO unless I'm starting at the same time it did or relatively a bit after. Otherwise I'll always feel behind and I make too many sacrifices in my own life to try and catch up (despite being ahead of many casual players).

I generally just stay away from MMOs, I want to get into EvE (I thought D3 would be the median of MMOs/adventure games where I could play casually), but its proving a little difficlt and setting personal boundaries is hard for me.

If you're not into endgame and into story and characters, you can't beat SWTOR in my opinion. Most fun leveling in an MMO I've ever had, especially if you play w/ friends.

I'm into PvP mostly and the feeling of being on top.
If I want story and characters; I can read a book or play something more interactively involved like Mass Effect or KOTOR!

I really found EvE to be really intriguing. But the game has been established for such a long time that its quite intimidating to join in.

I heard really good thing about SWTOR, and since it is going F2P I will definitely give it a go.
