I've been seeing a few SC2 threads pop up here and there, with people saying how they're losing interest, or are just getting bored with the game. I played StarCraft: BroodWar (You know, the ugly StarCraft. :D) and I've been hearing the same thing more and more lately. Recently, I read this reply to a thread from someone who was losing their passion for SC2, but wanted to know how to get it back:

On May 21 2012 19:03 Fishgle wrote:
If you're not having fun, why play?

Here's my thought on the matter: Although I personally prefer Broodwar, both StarCraft games are really fun, and really cool. Having these games as a hobby (an E-HOBBY, if you will) is, in my opinion, something profoundly cool. You might stay up playing a 48-hour Mass Effect 3 marathon and have a ton of fun, but after that, you put the game away for awhile. But other games, like StarCraft can become a hobby, or something you become passionate about.

BELIEVE ME, there are going to be a lot of ups and downs when you go through hobbies, games, relationships, jobs, and life. Most people don't go "Well, life isn't fun anymore, I quit." and if StarCraft has become a part of your life but seems to have gone stale, it's normal to want to recapture that initial burst of zest that invited you into it all.

Well, here's the cliché that nevertheless run true: That zest didn't come from StarCraft, it came from you. It was inside of you the whole time, and StarCraft just brought it out of you. You found this wonderful game, and loved it, and it became a life experience, and because of it, you learned something about yourself that you loved (or in some cases, hated) and something about that moment of realization was magical. You were in the bronze league, now you're in the gold league. You were D- on iCCup, and now you're C-. You practiced something over and over, and each time, it failed, but one day, it just clicked for you and worked. You put your heart and soul into overcoming an obstacle, and you did it. You watched Proleague, GSL, MLG and saw your heroes triumph, and you shared in their endeavor, because you know they shared the same struggle as yourself. Those were special moments, so let them be special. If you try to repeat those experiences over and over, they'll never be the same as when you first felt them in your heart. Look to the future, try new things, meet new people, eat food you've never tasted before.

Good memories are beautiful, so make new ones!

Hahaha I was thinking "Oh no! Not another one of these threads!"

I enjoyed the positive perspective.

Yup. I'm quitting SC2 after all the terrible patches that have gone through. Well, thats and I have been too busy playing D3 to even care about anything SC2 related at the moment...probably won't really get back into it until HotS and I know i'm not alone in that state of mind.

I think with StarCraft people often forget that they are playing a game to have fun, not to become a better person or to increase some arbitrary numbers. You have to start the match thinking 'I am going to have a fun game' rather than 'I am going to see the victory score screen.' Obv you want to win, but if you don't have any fun when you lose, then you probably have forgotten about the game and what is supposed to be appealing about it to begin with.

Different strokes for different people I guess mostly when I play starcraft I want to win most of the time and like xellos said the only time I feel like I was alive when I see my opponent gg . So yeah nothing is much more satisfying than winning for me of course . If I want to have fun I would off race as protoss it's really fun ^_^.

what is this nonsense about bw being fun
the game is concentrated stress. i only play it when i'm breaking down. bw makes everything else in my life seem so simple and easy in comparison

I am agreeing with you in the sense that you should have fun playing games. More importantly, I'm saying that when you find something that positively affects your life, you should roll with it. The only thing I *slightly* disagree with is the quickness to give up about something you're passionate about. If you're passionate about StarCraft, you might not always be having fun with it. Sometimes, it will piss you off. That doesn't mean you should quit. You have to look inside yourself and find the strength to carry on your passion and make it stronger. When you do that, it will also make you stronger.

I think the patches are good, because it shows that Blizzard cares about the game and wants to make it better. However, if someone like qxc says "Blizzard is doing the ghost nerf wrong", you might be inclined to say to yourself "Well, I don't think Blizzard knows what they're doing and the patches are terrible." That doesn't mean that the patches actually ARE terrible. I think you might just need a short break from playing to clear your mentality a bit, then get right back on the horse when you're ready.

makes sense. Agree with you 100%

i implied the guy should just stop playing because i felt he wasn't in love with starcraft but merely in love with the mere idea of loving something (that something being starcraft). Myself, i've stopped playing star2 altogether (went back to dota, realized i've never really loved playing sc2) but i've continued to watch star2 tourneys, especially GSL. The passion's still there, but it's a passion of a different sort. Quitting starcraft allowed me to do what i really enjoyed about it: watching the pros work their magic.

I would have more passion for the game if i wouldn't get stomped so easily every time i try to play a TvP, haven't played a game since almost 3 weeks now due to TvP fear.

But i still watch GSL,MLG and PL eventhough i had to stay up for 20 hours last weekend.

Starcraft 2 is great but it's getting too stressfull for me to play

Also, not having reallife friends that play or even just watch the game sucks :-/
