ZvZ
Played alot of ZvZ today and made alot of big mistakes. I'm beginning to realize that a crucial part of Starcraft 2 is decision making, especially in ZvZ. I think that today my decision making was far from my standard. This lack of decision making was the main thing that really lost me alot of my games. For example, in one game I scouted an 8 pool by the opponent but then when I went back to my base to make defense I realized that I had forgotten to make a spawning pool... -.-. I've also figured out that if the opponent does early pool rush you, you should bring an overlord and scout around your base to make sure there are no spine crawlers. This mistake cost me 2 game When do you guess usually scout in ZvZ, if you do at all? Since I'm losing a lot to early rushes and I would appreciate if you guys had any tips at all to stop an early ling rush in ZvZ. Another thing which I have noticed from one game is that mass muta's is really good. I don't know why but I didn't scout the opponent and he had his mutas around the same time I did, but he had more. In reaction to this I made infestors. Pretty standard right? I tried to fend off his attacks with fungle but I had horrible unit control and his muta flock was absurd. I think what I needed what hydras to back them up. Hydras + infestors next time, I think, will deal with mass mutas (+20).
Things to improve and learned
- Need to improve unit control (zerglings running into banelings, infestors)
- Need to have better decision making. (counter attacking, moving spines)
ZvT
Not many ZvT games today, actually the number of ZvT's I've been playing the last couple of days has decreased quite a lot. Where did all you terans go? Oh well, the three ZvT's I played today were quite good games and I thought that I did quite well in them. In one of the games I scouted that the opponent was going for a fast banshes due to the fact that he had no addon for his barracks (probably no hellions) and that he had a factory with a tech lab in production (either a marine tank timing attack, which I don't think is likely because there was no addon on the barracks, or fast banshes). I wasn't too sure at that point and I should of sent my overlord back in to see what was going on in the terran base. Just one flaw that I will improve in my play. In the next game I was faced with a 2 rax agression. I was totally off guard because I didn't scout, yet another flaw. However, I did manage to hold it off and won the game with a baneling bust. Good old baneling bust to save the day.
Things to improve and learned
- Need to improve my scouting throughout the entire game. Some of the strategies these terrans used caught me off guard, it should never happen.
ZvP
In ZvP I'm still sticking to the style of Stephano max on roaches by the 12 minute (usually 13 or 14 minutes for me haha). Sometimes I like to change it up and go muta's too. A big thing which I noticed about my game is that just like in ZvT my scouting for ZvP is horrible. I've lost many games due to lack of information on the opponent. For instance, one game my opponent went for fast void rays after a Forge Fast Expand and I was caught off guard, but thankfully he had only Zealots to defend and a roach counter attack quickly won the game. In another game the opponent placed cannons in my natural but I figured out when it was too late and lost my natural. I need to improve my overlord placement around the map and have more map awareness to be able to counter these protoss tricks! And then there is the game in which I just straight up lost because I worker rushed... I think I could of won that but he had a probe at the watch tower and saw all my workers coming. That along with beautiful wall-off ruined my drones' day. I also need to try to deny the third much more and protect my own third. If he doesn't have a third base I can just keep attacking him and wasting my units while killing his. I can remax much faster due to my superior economy.
Things to improve and learned
-Need to improve my third denying skills
-Need to protect my own third much more. I find that it's getting taken out way too much.
-Need to expand faster. I find that once I'm on three bases I'm too comfortable and I don't expand until all my minerals in my main are depleted.
Well that's it the third day of my journey. Thanks everyone for taking the time to read this long post. Hopefully I organized it as well as I could. If anyone has any questions or comments or could offer advice on anything please post! So thanks again.
See you next time
