So, this blog entry will be day 1 and day 2. I was working on my day 1 post yesterday but lost it, due to not copying it and trying to submit. When I tried to submit it asked me to resubmit my info, and I lost the blog.
I'm going to try to write all the things I had written yesterday, but I may miss a little. I wrote about how I started with Starcraft and why I wanted to take it seriously, so here it goes again.
How I started
Like most players, it started off as nothing more than casual fun. I started playing it for fun around release, and played it casually for the first year. I made it to platinum playing casually, and then when I thought about playing seriously I managed to make it into diamond after a month or so. Since platinum however I really started to love the idea of being competitive, and even competing in several online tournaments.
I finally decided I wanted to take this game seriously around Christmas this year, and began dedicated many hours a day to playing. However, I am also in my 3rd year of University, and in software engineering. My program in school requires a lot of work, and I just wasn't doing it like I was before. My grades began to slip, and I started cutting sleep to play sc2 and finish school work. What this led to was being able to do neither well, and I never got any better. I remained in diamond, and still am. Most people would tell a diamond player that it's useless to even bother trying, but I'm not one to listen to advice from those not trying it themselves.
What was actually happening was that I was so worn out I couldn't play consistently, and by grinding out ladder games, I'd lose too many games and get frustrated. It would then take me the next day to just get back to where I was, and I would just repeat this over and over.
I was doing this because a good friend of mine, in mid to high masters had found a small start-up team to sponsor him and a few guys. The only criterion for entry was being in masters, and meshing well with the team. Although not masters, these guys were my friends so I really wanted to seize the opportunity.
I managed to study extremely hard, and pass all my courses by acing all my exams. So here I am, beginning my career in sc2, and I thought I'd bring Team Liquid along for the ride. I'm going to post lessons I learn from laddering, practice, and overall life.
I'm going to leave my first post at this, and get back at it tomorrow. I'm still rather upset about losing all my hard work on my first post lol.
