I have Only recently begun playing the joy which is Starcraft 2! I happened to be heading out on a night out with mates starting in the local gaming bar (Kyoto Lounge for anyone in Manchester, UK) to play some Fifa, when i stumbbled across Starcraft 2. It was the same weekend as IPL 4 was taking place and Kyoto lounge were streaming the games! I dont know WhO i first watched, but im certain it was a ZvT. I watched 2 or 3 games more and was instantly hooked!
The sunday, i downloaded the starter game, and watched the rest of the IPL games, up till a ridiculous time. Mesmerised by the sheer Speed of play and ingenuity. I began trying to emulate their play and boy, am i crap! But despite my abysmal AMP, and lack of composure during early game rushes.......i love this game!
Ive had a bit of early success as protoss, but have found the i enjoy playing Zerg the most! And im not good, ill never be a pro or anywhere near that level but i enjoy the challenge nontheless! Ive managed to find various streams/shows which i love! Day[9] has a lot to answer for! His sheer enthusiam for eveything is so contagious! His analysis and understand is brilliant! I have watched most of the Newbie Tuesday videos (to the point where i am very close to subscribing to show my appreciation!), maybe if i spent a little more time playing and not watching id be able to put into practice what i have read and watched! Im also guilty of watching dApollo's vids too and have loved the vids where he works up from bronze league! And im thoroughly enjoying the l2play SC weekly vids!
Essentially, i just wish id found this game earlier! Not because i sit thinking, id be a pro if i had, but more for the community involved. The amount of people happy to share knowledge is fantastic! From build orders, to mechanic tips to general RTS guidance is great. Yes, there is a lot of crap such as 'increase your APM' I mean.....thats sound advice but........HOW GODDAMIT......HOW! ha ha ha ha! I love the indepth nature of the game, the possibilities of army comp you can create and the people i enjoy watching! (Day [9], dApollo, Stephano, MKP, DRG you have all been named and shamed on feeding my addiction!).
I plan on documenting my progress from the Bronze league here (currently ranked 50th) and alos in how i get on at 2v2!. Learning Zerg isnt going to be easy for me but its the race i like the most! But if anyone fancies a new practice partner, feel free to add me! Bnet name is Zoglug, feel free too add me. I play on the EU servers, on most nights of the week and hopefully ill improve somewhat that i can play in some local events! Bit of a rambling post really but, the general message is
I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!
Over and out!

Glad to see someone so enthused about Starcraft, you've come to the right place.
You also need to include a friend code for people to add you on bnet. You can find this by going 'add friend' and it will be displayed there.

Congrats! Its a beautiful game and makes alot of people very happy and very frustrated as well. Wish I had known about Brood War, I had no RTS experience before I really started taking sc2 seriously (played competitively with the intent to win everygame haha) and I got totally sucked in just like you. But hey we found it eventually didn't we?!? Go us and go SCII!

You're doing it right! When I got into SC2, a few months after release, I had no resources to improve. It wasn't until I got promoted to Platinum that I had found TL and Day9.tv. Day9 brought my skill up into high diamond within 2 months and continued on from there =]
Always feel free to turn to the TL community when you're in need of something. Wether it's real life, or SC2 strategy. We're always here to help.

You're not gonna drop everything else in your life and go pro?
Where's your ambition?

Welcome to teamliquid, where how you post is rated before your actual post!
But in all seriousness, it's nice to see more people getting into SC2. Not that there aren't a lot already, but I like reading stories of why people started playing - especially someone who hasn't played BW or much RTS to start with. Welcome!

Really nice to read such enthusiasm from someone new to the game.
PM me if you want to practice a bit, I'm platinum but I might be able to help a bit. Though I don't get as much time as I'd like.
Also... I'm from Manchester and I'd never heard of Kyoto lounge, might have to go there some time.

For those who wish to add me, my bnet code is 693!

I love watching Day9! The other week, i had a day off work and literally watched his vids all day long! They have given me a great insight into the game, the fundamentals and also into pro players too! He is so enthusiastic, it makes it very difficult not to open SC right after and start practicing!

My gaming background is mainly beat em ups (SF, Tekken & DOA) and sports games, mainly Fifa and NBA Live! Ive played a little RTS, those being C&C many years ago and more recently Dawn of War, but SC2 for me is just a fantastic game which has got me completely hooked!

Id never heard of it either until a few mates dragged me along one evening! Beer and video games, what more can you ask for! Definately up for a few practice games. I may not be much competition for you, but it would be great to play some higher level players, as more than anything, i love the challenge!!!

You never know, once i get out of bronze, i may get some delusions of grandeur and start trying to kick it with the big boys!!!

I absolutely love posts like this! Its great when Starcraft can literally pull people in who before that moment had no idea what it even was. I wish you luck in your quest, and hope you stick to it!
|
I also wish that I found the game earlier. Maybe around 2008, cause that way I wouldve experienced bw before sc2 :s But away from me, glad you seem to really enjoy sc2, thats awesome :D
|
I only wish you could experience the difficulties of BW($5-15/copy depending on where you buy it!!!) before SC2. Then you would really appreciate SC2 v BW. SC2 for me however is harder to learn than BW was because of the hotkeys.
Also, never give up even if you feel that you've reached your peak in where you can go. There is always more, and when there truly seems to be no more, there is the overmind. KEKEKEKEKEKEKE
