Looking back at how a game that just a mod for the game of the year game which is half life the game of the year that time in 1998 . Counter strike became the most popular mod ever play in the world sold millions of copy all around the globe . Counter strike definitely a blessing to the gaming world and with that we have got to thank to Gooseman aka minh lee and Jeff for creating this awesome mod to play for us.
As a fan of the counter strike mod back from the beta and source it was an awesome thing to play cs until the next morning .Recently news about the new CS GO which stands for Counter strike global offensive is about to be release and it may or may not be a hit for the two community . Cs 1.6 and Cs Source community has always been fighting a war with each other defending their game and calling the other game an inferior one but in the end neither fully grow in numbers especially the dwindling fans of cs 1.6 .
Counter strike scene isn't that great compared to the days when cs was on the mouth of every gamers who frequently goes to the cyber cafe and just players who wants to kill some time hanging out with their buddies at pc bang . With games like Modern warfare 3 and BF3 that is already taking much of the market for the fps section . I would like to be honest here and say that old play style like counter strike isn't really going to be popular with the new generation of gamers even if it may be fun .
Despite me playing down the capability of games like counter strike to ever be in the heart of gamers again . I want to take a look at Tactical intervention, After Minh Lee decided he had a hard time keeping up with Valve policy that they have to create content at time and he being a person who likes to do all things by him self and yes even doing coding and programming of the game from top to bottom .Goes back to his root and went indie.
Of course making games are not easy by yourself and you have got to some have funds an office to work with and a team .Fortunately for minh he met one of those parties who were interested in getting in to the business of making games and funded all the necessary money to get him self an office and a team to make the game which is now finish called tactical intervention also considered to be what minh lee thinks is an improved version of counter strike .
Tactical Intervention in substance is about killing your opponent and eliminating the opposing team rewards your team the winning round . Minh lee has added changes to the counter strike standard play style of playing through the game .Players has the ability to peek around corners, roll on the floor, use attack dogs on your command to distract your opponent while you flank from the other side .
Even using the active hostages in the combat environment you are in as a human shield .From the looks of it this isn't counter strike because counter strike is all about being skill at killing people with a few headshots planting a bomb .Maps also will be much smaller compared to the traditional counter strike like maps hence putting players into a much more tighter environment ensuring much close encounters between the players .
Minh in his word suggested that having overpowered weapons like the awp just kills the game and waiting for players to finish the round while you are dead is just boring hence the timer in the game of tactical intervention will be shorter and players will even get the ability to ride cars and chase down their opponent on a map which the players can only drive in cars and eliminate each other .
People may not like the changes minh has created which definitely looks like a counter strike clone but we have to look at the game from the perspective of minh it's definitely looking to be a very enjoyable online first person game just like counter strike 1.6 . Having abilities they were not apparent in counter strike before is available in Tactical intervention is definitely a change of the usual standard of gamings we all have gotten so use to from the competitive scene .
Creator Minh also ensures that the direction of the game of it being a free to play online game was because of not his decision as he just wants to make an enjoyable game and get involve with making games from the ground up again and the decision was in the hands of the team who suggested it to go down this route of it being a free to play .
Despite me writing some sort of a free promotion for the game, it's more that I am taken back that there is a chance for an incarnation games like broodwar and counter strike to make a come back that is not the original game of broodwar or cs which has been played a lot of times but an improvement of the original idea of these oldies and yet at the same time be able to enjoy by many gamers alike .
I like the feel of Tactical Intervention it definitely looks gritty like the old cs 1.6 but revamp with a better engine and yet at the same time it feels reasonably realistic because the world and buildings generated around does reflect almost life like surroundings when we do pass down the street or enter a shopping plaza .Looking at it's current game play it definitely needs some tinkering with the firing animation as it looks stiff at some point but other than that it looks really good to be a good shooter and that it is when minh tinkers the game to perfection as he has been doing since the old counter strike modding days .
As an old time cs fan and bw fan I liked the idea that there is still game designers like minh still available out there .Making games to his vision and not just spewing out games and it's sequel to ensure that the game makes the maximum benefit and shelf life it can gets like what major gaming companies are doing right now . Do we really want to support companies who just want to keep churning out games out of good old franchise and make sub par game plays compared to the original ? Just because they can and they don't have any idea what else to do with the franchise ?
Tactical intervention is the right step back in to the days where games are created for the purpose of it being fun and yet at the same time it supports by the community and looking from the development and time minh has put in it likely is going to be a hit from fans of the old counter strike and hopefully the new generation . Hopefully I would be able to see the same direction be brought back to starcraft, developers like minh who still desire to create games that are as interesting and serious at the same time and yet fun .
