I can accept that lower gravity will make someone from earth jump higher. But it will also mean he will fall slower. He should not achieve superman level strength from simple gravity reduction. Sure his muscle mass should be greater than the natives but thats about it. I knew i was in for a huge disappointment right from the start when they show the ridiculous fumblings from carter in mars. I swear to god that was the most unnatural looking thing. Youd think with this kind of budget, they would at least get the visuals right. His tripping and shit just screams outs wires and defied all sense of physics. That said, other scenes where he jumps around were done much better than the beginning. The princess's acting was quite bad. She was supposed to convey some emotion during the desert scene for the viewers to sympathize with her cause. The apes were black on the poster. Why were they white lol. This movie was riddled with the typical retarded enemy syndrome. They had so many chances to eliminate John carter. Where teh fuck was the blue laser gun that disintegrates people during the climax? Seriously? That dude is gonna fight with a sword? He even had carter at swordpoint but obviously he had to say his useless line before he could kill him. In fact, WHY were they using swords at all? Thaks have fucking green laser rifles. Humans have flying ships with giant cannons. They have enough understanding and knowledge to replicate the 9th ray device. Yet they all fight like gladiators during the medieval times. The BIGGEST flaw in the movie though was the thirds(?). What exactly was their plan? What is their purpose? They have no motives in the movie. What do they get by arranging the marriage? Sure they can control the brute a bit easier but i thoguht they said all planets undergo the same cycle. Why do they feel the need to interfere? Why do they want to control him anyways? I might have missed something. Was their purpose extracting energy from planets while the civilizations warred with each other or something? Why not just wipe out everyone and extract the energy. Seriously. Nothing about these guys make any sense. What was that shit about transferring data between mars and earth? What does that do? Why are they doing it? How does carter know he will die if they kill his body on earth? etc etc.

My favourite part was right after the gladiator style battle when John killed that other martian dude who usurped the other jeddak. For most of the movie up to that point you could see the tension and hostility between them, sort of like a young wolf challenging the old pack leader. There was a fair amount of build up to that conflict and the whole fight ended in 2 frames. Fucking terrible. The entire ending sequence didn't need to happen. So he got shifted back to earth, only for us to watch a 5 minute 'training montage' in which he ended up going back to mars anyway? Talk about a waste of time. What happens if there's another Thrun guy waiting for him when he gets back? Plus wouldn't they have already killed the princess due to her knowledge of the 9th element/thing? Edit: In case it's not clear, reviewers are giving this movie flak because it is terrible, not because they "don't understand" you or your generation.

Too bad there are no good science fiction movies anymore, all we get is comic reboots or cheesy craps like this.

About the Therns (not "Thirds"), just wait for the sequel. Or if you really wonder about who or what they are, go read the book and get some answers. The movie had no reason to show you what their purpose was yet, but the story will get there. I saw it last weekend, and I absolutely loved it! My dad read the books as a kid, and he's told me about them from time to time... I mean, to me it just sounded like another cheesy sci-fi story, but once I'd understood that this was from the same guy who wrote Tarzan, that it was this story that inspired sci-fi as we know it today... wow. That's awesome. Now that I've seen it, I plan on reading the books this next week (Spring Break got here just in time, baby!) and I'm gonna hope that they continue releasing more movies from this series which demonstrates remarkable creativity and an awesome story. For those of you who haven't seen it, I recommend you go see the video review of it on IGN, that's the review that I saw before I went to the theater and it totally hyped me up. As the OP said, this movie has taken a lot of crap from a number of critics, but IGN gave it 4 stars and gave it a ton of credit. http://www.ign.com/videos/2012/03/02/john-carter-video-review Have fun with your journey to Mars

I mean, come on. If you'd just stop using your brain for a long period of time, John Carter on Mars is up there with Godfather and The Illiad.

They were saying stop nitpicking about physics and shit. Why complain about the realism of a part of a sci-fi movie.... Regardless I will wait till this is on dvd and i can get it for free to watch it.
