HUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGh
Second week of my first year of uni. i think my brain has just lost its virginity today.
Accounting and financial decision making. never. NEVER once have i ever done anything ever to do with accounting and what it entials in any of my previous school life EVER. so i decide to do a business degree. ooooo look accounting seems to be a prerequisite minor for my major thingy i guess i have to do that this semester. shouldnt be that hard.
last week first lesson..........easy enough some intro stuff, some basic terms simple simple simple yum yum yum might be a decent class i guess.
this morning..i swear to god if i manage a good mark in this subject im recording a nude run through the uni. WHAT IS THIS INCOME NON CURRENT ASSET LIABILITY SHIT.
oh owners equity increase. but not when the withdrawal comes from a creditor then its a liability but wait debtors just gave you some money back wait what where is this money....wha wait what is this WHERE IS MY BALANCE SHEET GOING..WHA WHAAAAAA why are my assets 20k less then my liabilitys and owners equity. AND WHAT IS PROFIT IF ITS IN EQUITY WHAAA
and hour and a half of sheer balance sheet madness drilled through my eyesockets
and then. finally i got it. it all made sense, as if moses was over my shoulder parting the assets to one side the liabilities/owners equity to another. i passed through the work like walking across the red sea.
but moses is a bitch. oh thats a nice balance sheet you have there. here write a cash flow statement.
WHAT IS A CASH FLOW STATEMENT. oh god the numbers they were so neat and fancy and to each side..
now im getting drowned,
bloody moses, could have at least gave me a scuba set.
TL;DR
uni's fun, meeting alot of new people, as well as some old friends. though i wont be friending moses on facebook anytime soon.
/end uni tired hungry rant

I know that feel.
Keep working on it and (maybe) it will open up.

Eat more man. Difference between being hungry/not hungry is amazing. Prepare your own food instead of just buying shit. Its more work but cheaper.

Yeah don't worry, I was almost in the exact same situation a week or two ago. I actually went through a 700 page accounting textbook in about 8 days. The shitty thing is that at the end of those 8 days you don't understand half of what you read. The nice thing is that at the end of the 8 days you understand half of what you read, which is not too bad for a week's work :p Honestly, just keep at it. The difference between the Balance Sheet, Income Statement and CF Statement become second nature at some point. The same goes for everything you'll be studying in the next few weeks. The only work you'll really need to worry about is the work you will do near the end of the semester, as you'll have to spend time figuring most of that out for yourself.

I quit college because of my 3 hour accounting class, I feel you. Just push through it and get an A, then you'll be the last one laughing. I regret quitting college because now I'm back in it, 2 years wasted --;

I don't get it.
Did accountants used to raise money for companies?

No, just that Finance as a subject usually relates to another field of economics than accounting.
Finance is all about value added to the equity where accounting is more or less just "bookkeeping".
Finance looks forward, accounting looks backward
-Hope that was a good way to put it, but probably not. :D

Haha I was just revisiting the cash flow statement a few days earlier for my work, it is a tad confusing on first glance I admit, but once you get the idea behind it I'm sure Moses will part the waves again.

Accounting was invented to keep accountants employed, that's why it rarely makes sense and completely unreadable.

Financial Accounting is basically bookkeeping, while managerial accounting is all about maximizing profits. I feel you though, imagine how I feel being a accounting major. Advanced Financial Accounting is no fun...
