Alright I like this community, late night Gsl watching runs talking the shit, making retarded puns that are fucking awesome. Most of the people here are very cool, laid back and want to add to this house party we call team liquid.
There has been a build-up of frustration in me which i felt the need to release in this blog section since, i doubt anyone will actually read this, but it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside to get this rant the hell outa me before I start fights in the forum and get kicked out of the party for drunken rage. There is two major things that have been bothering me the past few months.
1. This whole notion that Koreans are inherently better at this game then foreigners.
Now I know nothing of brood war, but apparently there wasn't a big foreigner scene, so koreans dominated the shit outa it. This is SC2, not brood war. there is a huge foreigner scene and just because someone is korean does not mean he auto-wins against a foreigner unless lag, lack of sleep, the korean wasn't taking this seriously, or any other of the millions of excuses used cause him to lose. All these excuses get at my nerves more then anything else. This "skill gap" that exists in my opinion is imaginary. Sc2 is half mechanics half mind game. People say there is a skill gap, this gets into the players head, and they think they actually are worse, they put more stress on themselves to work the mechanics, and thusly lose the mind game. This skill gap only exists because people believe it exists. Example, Stephano, he didn't give a fuck, he just did his build, and did it fucking good. He started roflstomping people badly. "But those are just B-teamers". No, no they are not. This a inferiority complex you need to erase. You make a build, you perfect it, and you win with it. Simple as that. So what does this have to do with this korean supremacy bullshit?? I'm saying it's imaginary, it's all in your head, and as soon as we all remove it from our brain the sooner we will stop belittling foreign players hard-work by saying the only reason it worked was lag, etc.
2. People bringing up lag as an issue in KR-EU match-ups specifically.
The IPL fight club between Nerchio and Jjakji really brings this one home for me. 5-4 in incredibly close games, and people at the end attempting to guard there ego's conception of korean dominance start talking about how the only reason it was close was the lag issue. Someone even said he wasn't taking it seriously at all… I digress before I start flaming. These games were fucking awesome. Nerchio had Jjakji pinned down the first too games with some shit he practiced that Jjakji hadn't seen before. It took him 2 games before he figured it out. Fool me once my bad, Fool me twice your bad. Got to respect the kid, pretty clever. It then went back and forth until it ended in the final game with Jjakji coming out on top. Fucking epic, I am pretty sure we saw every unit each player had in his arsenal. Each player put in work to those games. Then people come in and start complaining that it was that close, they make excuses for why the games were so fucking awesome. …Wait what? Yeah people saying that the games shouldn't have been that close, Jjakji must have been dealing with some lag, he outclasses this EU scrub.. There should be two buttons on each post in TL for shit like this. One is the like button so I can like the funny ass shit people say, cuz people here are pretty fucking funny. And the second is a Bitch-slap button, to slap some sense into some of these guys.
Also going back to TSL 3. Fucking thorzain. Fucking Terminus. Triple expo's on Fruitdealer, snipes the overlord so fruit dealer cannot flood him with roaches until he can get rauders out. sniping creep tumors, sniping gas's. This kid went ape-shit on Fruitdealer. Some of the most retiredly-awesome shit I have ever seen. And this whole thing got written off to lag. I'm about to pull my hair out bro. Next up Adelscott, pioneering mass gateway style vs. terran, solidly dismantles IM_MVP. This kid creates a new style. Pops that shit on MVP, who is most likely confused as shit as to why someone would actually do that. Adelscott wins the mental battle and takes the series. Nope lag bro. All lag.

In closing, I feel better now, I shall continue to suffer in silence in hope of these comments dying into the abyss that is the middle of a thread. I hope one day that these people will turn a new leaf and start giving respect to these players who work there fucking ass off so you can enjoy the games. Leave the prejudiced bullshit at home. I don't want to hear that crap. Yeah I said prejudiced btw. Cuz when you think about it saying Koreans are better at SC2 then foreigners, its like saying Blacks are better then any other race at Basketball, or Hispanics at Soccer or Baseball. Its racist.

Also, no one says Korean's are naturally more gifted; they say they perform better because they have all the time they aren't sleeping to practice the game, a luxury foreigners don't have due to the practice house situation.

Black people are better at basketball because they are taller and have more fast-twitch muscle fibers (genetics). Hispanics are better at football because they train harder. Koreans are better at Starcraft because of both. Additionally, they have a larger talent pool to draw from since pro gaming is more legitimized in Korea. I'm not saying that it's impossible for there to be a foreigner bonjwa, but it's statistically unlikely.
And don't call me a racist. People are different. Claiming that everyone is the same is a crock of neoliberalist bullshit. Diversity is one of the greatest things that the human race has going for it.

Secondly though I do agree. I knew watching that nerchio v jjakji game that everyone would say 1) KOREAN IS BETTER and 2) ONLY REASON IT WAS CLOSE CUZ OF LAG
that's what they say every time any foreigner faces any korean, even if both players are connecting to a distant server (as the case in IPL, I believe both players connect to NA)
its sad but, the brainwashed masses + the diehard BW fanboys will always value koreans over foreigners, not recognizing that top foreigners can at least match mid-top koreans (and lets face it, jjakji did win a Code S, but he isn't quite as powerful as MVP or MC yet).. don't let it get to you, just watch the games and have fun, read as little forums as possible if it cheese you off :D

Koreans practice better, Koreans put up the results (time and time again), so sorry, your opinion lacks evidence. There IS a skill gap whether you "perceive" it or not. That said, foreigners definitely have what it takes to beat Koreans, but it's not consistent at this point..

there was a huge foreigner bw scene and one won a starleague, but foreigners aren't willing to practice 10h every day so koreans started dominating everything with a high enough skill ceiling, that's why sc2 is popular now because even with little practice you can still compete in gsl code a, code s not so much

What I thought after reading through it was pretty much the same... There is still a skill gap even though its smaller than the one in broodwar. Thank God it's smaller, it makes things much more interesting but covering your eyes and pretending it doesn't exist is kind of entertaining as well.
Just please nobody use Idra and Sen's code S as an example. Seriously... those groups were straight out of Hell for both of them lol

But this post itself seems like a troll from my skim of it. Yes, Koreans are better and will always be better at SC2. Also, online results mean nothing. Especially when someone like Jjakji has way more important things to be focusing on (GSL) that prevent him from showing his real builds.
But I look forward to seeing (insert favorite European players here) in GSL Code S VERY soon! If they truly are good surely they won't be afraid of competing alongside the greatest players in truly meaningful games, where everyone's A game is on display.

I'm sure MVP was losing MULTIPLE reapers to groups of 4-5 probes in TSL3 vs Adelscott's Nexus first was just because Adelscott is very skilled and had an innovative build and not because MVP couldn't micro due to cross-server latency. :p

If black people are better at basketball, why are there still white people playing it? If hispanics are better at football, then why are there still WHITE, ASIANS and BLACK people playing it, and doing well?
Your argument has some big holes in it. No one is better at a sport because of their ethnicity because by that logic we could say white people are better at ruling the world because most are born into middle or upper class families. More money = More likely to be succesful = more likely to be a leader in the supposed free world.
However, we both know that white are people are not better at ruling the world - they're just born into better circumstances that foster that type of ideal. There are a lot of black people in the NBA because a lot of them grow up in low class suburbs where they don't have money for video games, or nice cars, or gold rings - They have a public park with a basketball hoop, so that's what they end up learning and becoming good at.
If race plays a card in how good someone is at something, then you have to assume it works for all parts of life. If that were true, then people shouldn't try to go outside the limits of their race's accomplishments... but people do it anyway. TL;DR - Race doesn't mean ANYTHING when it comes to being better at something.
Also, as to not derail this blog, I think the OP has some legit concerns, and I enjoyed reading this entry. It's not really common for me to read blogs in the first place, let alone an entire wall of text with little to no formatting. But your subject matter interested me. I agree that a lot of people down play the abilities of others (see: my reply in the first half of this post) because of supposed restrictions, but in the end... Nerchio played his games pretty well. Jjaki is was obviously a little under prepared for it, but played well enough to win.
I must say that Nerchio is looking pretty damn strong. Hope to see him in future tournaments. I know he was in HSC3, but I want to see him at MLG!

Not a genetic advantage as much as a geographic advantage, having such a small centralized country with excellent infrastructure; Compared to the vastness of NA and Europe.
