So my adventure has started with the first Zelda game released, Legend of Zelda (NES - 1986). My past experience of this game of been very little, probably beat 3 dungeons of it before a couple eyars ago didn't remember much of the game. Throughout this blog im going to talk about my progress in the last week, struggles, opinions of the games etc.. enough of the introduction lets get into it.
Progress
Dungeon one, ah I remember where this is just up and right and up across a bridge. Found it. Breezed through it got the bow. Made sure I had full health to shoot laser beams to be a cheapass and killed the dragon. Got out. Hell Yeah.
Similiar to my first time getting laid, this dungeon took roughly less than 10 minutes
*Note right here, these pictures are off the web, no I didn't have the ring when I went through the dungeon*
Got enough to buy the blue lamp. And start searching for Dungeon 2. Search and search and walk all over the whole map probably collecting 150 rupees, finding everything else around Dungeon 5,8 and 3 but no Dungeon 2 in site. SHIT! This is when that shitty little map that only shows a coloured blip in a giant blank square with no detail even if the location is explored pisses me off. Well I could look up the map online... no that's cheating! Or i could be oldschool and draw it.. No too lazy.
Decide yeah fuck this, and just do Level 3, by this point I explored alot and had already bought the blue ring cause I skipped over that shield. Useless till later anyways. Kill the boss with 1 bomb, starting to notice the dungeons are anticlimatic about the bosses. Also why is the map shaped like a swastika.
Holy fuck 4 heads! Oh.... turns out I just manhandled him ... get it? Hes MANHANDLA LOL >_>
Finally find level 2 by mistake and feel so proud. Easy compared to 3 cause theres no dark nuts being total assholes using shields. Get to boss oh shit its a dinosaur baddddasss. But hes slow, has no real attack and only way you can really lose if you dont have any bombs. Yet again I am disappoint. Also I was seeing blue after this dungeon that dungeon was so fucking blue.
Blast through levels 4 and 5 without trouble no problem finding them either. First boss I died at is in level 4. That 3 headed dragon. But got used the pattern and beat him. Level 6, however that was a BIIIIITCH. I skipped it and went to level 7 so I could get enough hearts to get the Master sword and go back and finally beat that one hard room. Actually just fuck wizrobes thats why this dungeon was so hard. However hardest dungeon in game other than last one, has easiest boss. 1 Arrow hit. 3/4 through the game and your still giving me bosses that I can beat with one hand while taking a shit. Also WHY give me the bow first dungeon when I dont even use of buy the arrows till now.
Why would they put guys in the dungeon that eat my magic shield, when I CLEARLY NEED IT HERE
Come level 8 this dungeon was a dungeon that intially I thought was really easy because I beat it without a map, but then I fucked up and forgot the magic key and went to level 9 thinking I had to buy all these keys from the store before I eventually went back and found it. For that... FUCK YOU LEVEL 8. Also they put bosses, before the boss. Yo dawg I heard you liked bosses so I put a boss before the boss so you can be like a boss while you beat the boss. Last boss was a harder version of dragon boss I dislike so it was also hard.
Level 9, The entrance to death... how badass sounding is that. God damn. First of all. Fuckin this music is getting me pumped to hunt gannon. Also I get the map and realize shiii this dungeon is shaped like a SKULL and its almost as big as the OVERWORLD. shit so intense. Clever use of the underground tunnel system since the NES couldn't comprehend a map with multiple floors. Love this dungeon fuck yes. Also first time in the game where I needed/could afford to buy a potion. Find red ring beat ganon after 2 hours in this fucking maze hell hole. Ganon epic battle, hes invisible you feel so helpless. Feel like a total boss winning.
Look at this, LOOK HOW EPIC THIS LOOKS

Overall Opinion/Review This game is fucking badass and awesome despite its flaws even by todays standards
Pros: -huge ass world to explore -so many things to find/explore -that feeling when you upgrade your sword or armor... awesome. Killing things in 2 hits instead of 3. -dungeons, placed awesome and made awesome. -Second quest. Awesome for replay ability -those paths found with power ring, awesome idea love it for travelling.
Cons: -fucking map (After beating game realized the map was in the manual... and it had exact description to get to level 2..... MFW) - BURN EVER BUSH BOMB EVERY WALL. Like seriously. No hints? Deformities? Cracks. God damn time waster and guessing game. -re using bosses/bosses to easy.. awesome dungeon shit ending (except ganon)
Overall great start to the series. Introduced alot of key elements and ideas espeically for its time. 8/10 todays standards. Probably 10/10 if I was playing in 1986.
Playing this game reminded me of BrentalFloss, awesome now this will be in my head all day.
Overall Progress Legend of Zelda - 10 hours (Completed)
Coming Up next Time Legend of Zelda 2: Adventure of Link... Oh god what did I get myself into!
PS: If your following this blog/any comments ideas for teh blog put em out there. I had alot to say not sure how to organize it and didn't want to rant. If you dont have anything to say just let me know if your read I like reading the replies! Thanks for reading and see you again next week.
aww man, cant believe i missed the early Zeldas i was too young and started with OOT. oh well. good luck liking the block. Edit: is this on nintendo? or wii? or emulator? or..?
I've never actually played the first two games, I've heard that Adventure of Link is a ridiculously hard game though, so good luck with that. And once you're done with that, you'll be at A Link to the Past, which is my personal favourite zelda game.

Whatever I can get my hand on at the time. Emulator virtual console, borrowed games, owned games etc. Also its never too late. I was born in 90' so my first Zelda was only Link to the Past. Your welcome to join me and beat all of them or just join in on a few classics

Me too, one of my favorite games of all time, and really a defining moment that introduced me into gaming
Hehe nice. However I don't believe you didn't cheat (read: look up on the web) and didn't know the game before if you completed it in 10 hours :-). How would you have managed to get past the "infinite road" maze ? :D
Whoa! Awesome! I'm going to follow your progress since it's been so long since I've played this. I'll do no save state no internet and try to keep pace with you. Going to be fun
This was my first Zelda game, played it in 89 (6 years old) and without question, it was 10/10. Back in that day nobody actually complained about not knowing where you could bomb or burn bushes, and it was a total awesome feeling when you actually found some secret place because it actually felt SECRET. I've always hated the cracks in the walls in almost every single Zelda game since this one, totally LAME.
Awesome write-up, catches everything really, bosses are indeed too easy except perhaps the multi-headed dragons which are pretty cool.
Also little bonus: When I, as the first person doing so (we played multiple people on a single character), finally found ganon in that maze hell-hole, I got so damn scared I handed over the controller to my big-sister and couldn't even stay in the room. Of course she died (didn't even have the arrows), but I never blamed her. LOL sweet memory.
Definitely just downloaded a bunch of emulators and rom's and plan on doing this at some point. I had always played Zelda games as a kid, but I don't think I ever even finished one. Hahaha time for me to get crackin!!

I actually searched high and low to find someone to tell me how to get through that damn forest and never found any one! Therefore I never actually went through the forest LOL. Only thing similiar was Level-5, go up up the mountain. When really it was go up up up up the mountain lol. Also funny thing I never found out about the whistle travelling you till the end of the game when it was too late. Only thing that really spoiled me was brentalfloss video showed where level 9 was but I already had read the hint bomb spectacle mountain and death mountain is an entrance to death.

Good to hear the more the merrier! And honestly I have 13 games left ( I think?) So approximately 1-2 a month will suffice. And expect Zelda 2 AoL to take the longest. If I can get past this game it will be a relief. Going to start it right now actually -_______________-
I've actually also been working on something like this for a little while now; been pretty lazy with it though. Not in any particular order though; just wanted to play through the entirety of my favorite series :D
I remember feeling pretty accomplished when I finally got through Zelda 1. I got frustrated with Zelda 2 like immediately after the first dungeon though, that's why I ended up playing other Zelda games LOL (I went and beat like PH, MC, and OoT hahaha).
Recently I went back and started playing Zelda 2 and learned that the game is very doable if you put the time into it ^^ I never really understood what all the hype around Death Mountain was though haha. I'm currently at the last dungeon in the game; haven't really had the motivation to beat it though LOL Too busy playing Master Quest TT
Why so little love for Zelda 2 ? It was one of the first game I beat on my own when I was a kid, and it's still my second favorite zelda game behind OoT.
Well now you completed the game the first way round. Now try naming you character "Zelda" and you get to redo it all with new dungeons that are even more crazy hidden (ps. not a joke)
Zelda II ... Oh dear god that game. Im halfway through the game on my 3DS and It makes me want to pull my hair out. Darknuts can go to hell. Seriously.

I challenge you to beat dark link without crouching in the corner. If six years old I did it, you can do it too ! And without the game genie, take that parents !
I enjoy this blog seeing as I never played any of the original Zelda games on NES. I hope you'll get to A Link to the Past on SNES eventually because it is kind of the best game ever.
