... and I will be until you can prove otherwise. No, I am not ranked 100 in the worst bronze division. But I challenge anyone to show himself or herself worse than me. Please do so -- while being demonstrably the worst is a perverse point of pride, I am happy to cede the thrown to one more deserving. Seriously.

The evidence:

SC2 was released July 27, 2010. According to Bnet, I purchased the game on July 30, 2010. I did not play in the beta, but other than that, I have pretty much been playing with ever-increasing frequency, consistency and effort since release.

Account No. 1: Phathatter, NA Server, Gold level Zerg -- Currently ranked 98th in my division with 0 wins and 8 losses (!). Last season I was rank 6 with 133 wins. Total league wins: 748 (I believe this includes team games -- I mainly play 1v1, but, to the extent that I have played team games, I can't even take full credit for those wins). This account is slumbering while I work on playing Terran.

Account No. 2: Mr. Black, NA, Silver Terran -- Rank 4 with 158 wins. 165 wins total (including team). This account was started just this season.

The argument:

In the 15.5 months that I have been playing SC2 I have played 953 league games (actually more than that, because I also play a lot on my brother's account, but cannot track those stats). I am a high silver terran and a mid/high gold zerg (was approaching plat in season 4, but I'm assuming there is a lot of rust there now). Until proven otherwise, I postulate that no one has seen less improvement with as many games played. Just by way of comparison, I have only two RL friends that play SC2 -- my brother is getting serious but has only been playing a couple of months. He is top a top 8 silver random player. My other friend came over from WoW with literally zero RTS experience and is a top diamond zerg.

Expected Counter-Arguments:

"You can't be the worst, you are not bronze." -- My measure of success is efficiency in improvement of skill. If there are you are a Bronze players out there that and have played almost 1000 games (most of them 1v1) and are still bronze, let me know and I will cede the title.

"I'm sure you could beat me, therefore you aren't the worst." -- The same argument applies. If you just started playing, your suckiness is justified. Only after you have put in significant time and effort will your results prove you worse.

"I have played 4000 team games, but I am bronze 1v1 with 78 games played." -- You may indeed be worse than me, but it is hard to compare your data to mine.

"Aren't all the players in your division who are ranked lower than you demonstrably worse than you?" -- Not necessarily. The ladder rewards playing the game more than winning the game. You generally gain more points for wins than you lose for losing. Typically the top 20 or so in any division (at least up through gold) are the only people that play regularly. The bonus pool allows people who play less to keep up, but it only goes so far.

Other Potential Responses (in varying degrees of likelihood:

"I am worse, here is the proof: [proof]." Thanks -- I'll update the OP with your stats.

"Why are you so bad? Is there something physically wrong with you?" -- That's a story for a different day, but I don't have a disability that contributes to my badness.

"You should [watch pros play, switch to protoss, analyze your replays, go all-in, watch Day[9], learn to macro, build marines + a-move, practice in custom games, use YABOT, ladder more, hire a coach, etc.]." I either already do it, or, I'm not going to do that.

"Hey man, winning isn't everything." -- I agree, thankfully (otherwise I should not play a game that I am demonstrably inferior at). I take pride in the way I play the game -- good manner and standard/non-gimmicky play. The game is supposed to be, and is, incredibly fun. None of that changes the fact that winning is the only true objective way to evaluate player skill.

"Dude, quit crying, uninstall and GTFO." -- I'm not really complaining. I love SC2, and I play it a lot. I blame no one. I'm not likely to be a grandmaster, but I will keep improving and learning.

"You should try [insert build order]. You'll rank up in no time." No thanks, I have plan for each matchup and am already working on my execution.

"Hey bro this is Liquid'[insert TL pro]. I dig your humility and sense of style. You don't know this, but I've been reading your posts, and I really like how incisive your analysis is, and how politely you conduct yourself on the forums. You seem like a real person, not just an attitude on the internet. I think I could really help you with your game. I'm going to be in Austin soon, how about we get together for a few beers and let me teach you a few things." -- Holy shit that's amazing! You are one of my favorite players--no, you are now officially my favorite player. I would love to buy you a beer! But hey, you don't need to go out of your way -- Skype works for me. I mean, if you're going to be here anyway, absolutely, but you don't need to come all the way from [San Antonio, Florida, Sweden, Germany, Korea] just for my sake. Wow, Team Liquid really goes above and beyond!

"Hey, I'm a Masters Level player, and I would love to help you out -- I'd like to analyze your games and help you to fill some of the holes. I am always available to practice or answer questions. GLHF!" -- Awesome! PM Me!

TL;DR -- I am the worst. Prove me wrong my friends. Please.

If Gheed wants the title, he is welcome to contend for it -- but I will not give it to someone who does not ask me for it. There are lots of contenders out there, and this thread could get negative quick if people start nominating other people

Now, I doubt Gheed or any other player who has a blog that tracks his or her success (or lack thereof in our cases) will be offended. But what I don't want to see is:

"Hey you think you are bad, check out this guy -- he fail cannon-rushed me lololol, so I checked out his profile and he's got 4,000 wins in bronze! I tricked him into being my friend and I learned some embarrassing things about him. Here's his character code, home address, email and telephone number. I got his girlfriend to break up with him!"

LOL that made me laugh so hard ^^

I thought that the leagues were somewhat divided into percentages of skill, so that bronze was like the bottom 20% (or whatever) of the barrel, and then silver was the next X% of skilled players, etc.

Not to say that a high bronze can't beat a low silver player, but there are thousands of players ranked so much lower than you that they probably can't even identify half of the units and spells- and the fact that you even know about this website will put you much farther ahead of them anyway

Best of luck to you in the future Stay positive and humorous!

I'm glad you liked it. Yeah, I can stomp bronze players, but I still contend that they aren't worse than me unless they shown a consistent effort to improve but are still bronze (i.e. after 1000 games or so).

But yeah, it's mainly a joke and something interesting to think about -- I mean, if someone wants to claim that they are the worst, because they are only diamond after playing 25,000 1v1s, I'll entertain the argument.

I admire your attitude May be, you could post some replays to strengthen your argument lol
I am not that much skilled as I'm just a diamond-low master level, but if you want some practice or replay analysis, I would try my best to help you :D

Reminds me alot of my lack of success in sports. The effort I have put in during my entire life can be attained by people in a year or so. Or even worse, talented clubmates who dont practice at all just rolls me like nothing.
But I just have to look at it from another angle, sure I'm in the bottom of the best but I'm still better than the majority who competes in my sports. Kinda like master level in sc2 if you want to compare. With that sort of skill it's really fun to just go out and play even if you cant tuch the GMs.

I'm into two sports, in one of them I'm clearly the best in my hometown and I'm not getting rolled there in the same way as the other one. But for the time and effort I've put in I'm just aweful.

If you read the second line, you would understand that I'm saying the OP is stupid for not trying new strategies, thinking his is ideal for improvement when it's obviously not.

If you are unwilling to change, then stay forever bad and be the worse player.

I think two things are getting lost in translation here:
1. From Me --> ReketSomething: the joke
2. From ReketSomething --> Me: whatever he is trying to say

I remember seeing a buy with 3k wins in bronze, he cannon rushed every game so I am not sure it that counts as worse than you or not but in my opinion he has got you beat.

Damn, you think that there is more chance that a Liquid player will come to your home and personally coach you than a random master player?

If you had an Europe account or I an American account I would help you out .
And I guess that the timezone might be a problem as well.

I think I can challenge you for the title =3:

SEA account: ZetarA - 946 league wins, 30 custom games. Mostly 1v1s. League: Platinum. I don't think I've played more than 20 non-1v1s.
NA account: ZetarA - 536 league wins, 35 custom games wins. All 1v1. League: Diamond, rank 18.
I got the game in october 2010, and I started out in SEA server. It took me 350 wins to get out of bronze (really).

Total of about 1.5k wins ~ 3k games to get to high plat/low diamond level.

Once again, some people might say: but you're fricking diamond/plat, but ive taken a ridiculouly long time to get there.

I graduated from UT in 2003. I wish SC2 was around when I was in college, because I was a pretty serious PC gamer at the time (Q3Fortress then CounterStrike to a dangerous degree). I had a dedicated CS server in Jester Dorm and was leader of a clan. I can only recall us playing one actual clan war and we got stomped, but we would own on the server against the pub scrubs (ofc). I imagine if SC2 came out when I was a freshman in college (2000), I would have been pretty highly ranked, as I had a lot more free time. But who knows?

I said "varying" degrees of likelihood, not "descending." :D No, I don't expect any TL Pros to respond, but I liked the idea of the pros sitting around reading all the blogs and occasionally showing mercy on the most pure of heart and sharp of reason (not that that is me). I mean...how would you react if you got that PM?

Finally! Someone who at least wants to make a case for himself! I figured there would be more people like me who wanted to argue for themselves; who wanted to stand up with pride and say, "I AM THE WORST!--HERE IS WHY!" But they would rather argue about who is going to win the GSTL :D. I guess I under-estimated the general level of masochism here.

I am a little disappointed that I cannot find out the actual number of games it took me to get out of Bronze. Even if I could though, I am pretty certain that SEA Bronze is probably harder than NA Bronze, so it's hard to compare.

Here is what I do know: I finished Season 1 still in Bronze. Rank 4 to be exact. Season 1 went from release to March '11. 8 months of Bronze. That is a long time -- I dont know how much I was playing at the time. I think it was 1-2 games a day a few days a week. But I wish I could find out the exact numbers.

Season 2--Rank 1 Silver--OH YEAH BALLER. Season 2 was the first time I was made to feel ashamed of my slow improvement. I remember I roach rushed a terran on XelNaga--he held it easily. After the game he messaged me something along the lines of, "Oh man, I just looked at your profile. I have never seen so many wins for a silver player. You should quit. ololololo." I looked at my division and I had like over twice as many wins as the second place player.

So tell me this Zetara--were you still Bronze at the end of Season 1? Do you have any other evidence or arguments to bring?

Finally! Someone who at least wants to make a case for himself! Hahah I wasnt bronze by the end of season 1: in fact, I was gold. Rank 1! Up till then I had been playing exclusively on the SEA server. I still remember how ridiculously much I played - technically I registered the game in october 2010, but I only played single player and didn't start laddering until early december 2010 cos I was so afraid of the ladder at that time. Started out in the practice league - after 5 games played my placement matches, lost all of them, got placed into bronze. I got my queen portrait while in bronze LOL. However, promotions came really quickly after that - i got promoted to gold 20 matches after i got promoted to silver - no idea why lol.

I registered my NA account in season 2 using the name "ZetarA". I actually changed my name to "URAMuThaFKer" shortly after but it was reported by someone i faced on ladder so i had to change it again, this time to "SeleCT" in honour of....yeah....SeleCT....but it still shows ZetarA in sc2ranks and battle.net for some reason. Anyway, I won all 5 placement matches on NA and got into plat.

A couple of hundred more games in season 2 and I am promoted to platinum on SEA, and to diamond on NA, along with my infestor portrait achievement and stuff. I have never been promoted beyond that since. In fact, I have been demoted once on SEA, from platinum to gold - how EMBARRASING! Despite the fact that I watch tons of replays (both mine and pro replays - I have 450 MB worth of pro replays), I cant seem to improve any further. The current trend is that I would win 10 games in a row, come reasonably close to promoting, only to lose 10 games in a row and pound my head against my keyboard.

Like you, I have played BOTH zerg and terran (MorroW style lol ), more recently i have stopped playing zerg completely though and am playing pure terran. I only started playing terran in season 3 and I would say that my terran is better than my zerg now.

So here I stand now. 1.5k 1v1 wins in total as terran/zerg, and still stuck in mediocrity limbo. ALL of my friends have played less than half as much and are yet just as good, if not better than me - in fact, most of my friends are in masters right now, and till now I have never really seen anyone play more than me and yet be worse than me - You don't count yet Mr Black, you haven't played as much as me Maybe if u notch 500 more wins and still remain in gold, then I will whole heartedly cede the title to you

I still believe I ain't the worst of the worst out there though *fingers crossed*, but when it comes to talent, seems that I'm just about as talented (or untalented) as you are Mr Black (no offence)

P.S. Still, while doing my time in bronze - those were the days - I was still proud of one thing - I have never lost to a worker rush ! (Sorry Gheed!!)

Once again, some people might say: but you're fricking diamond/plat, but ive taken a ridiculouly long time to get there.

totally disagree. Diamond in 1500 wins is better than gold in 500. Bronze -> Gold is easier than Gold -> Diamond imo.

Honestly, I think I'm the worst player ever because:

A) I'm wayyyy too stubborn to try a 'normal' unit composition like marine marauder, or stalker colossus, or whatever the hell the zerg players do when they know what their doing(okay in this case I do want to know what to build), I almost always do something fairly silly, not cheese, but weird things like marine reaper, marauder -> thor -> battlecruiser(my variant on the 1-1-1 ), as toss I do forge ME(Mass expand which generally involves a metric shit tonne of cannons into void ray carrier mothership, surprisingly the most effective out of my stuff), the Icantdecidewhattobuildsoiamgoingtobuildeveryuniteverthenlosebecauseyouhavealmostnounits is an occasional build when I haven't played terran in a while, zergling ultralisk because all I know how to build as zerg are zerglings, ultralisks, drones, queens, and banelings(thankfully a simple step from zerglings).

B) My macro has this tendency to not improve. Ever.

And C) I have no idea what I'm looking for when I scout in a base, aside from where he spawned.

But hell, if you want a practice partner I'm all for it. CidemTabiref.251 on NA server. Or if someone can mentor me at playing... Races.
