Thing is, with new macro maps, it's hard for games between good players to be "weird", and if the skill disparity is too large then it's simply a curbstomp in which any strategy would have worked anyway. On some old maps though, anything goes.
And so, the scene of our tale today shall be... Neo Requiem. Our fighters are:
CrAzY[x.1]: Old school BW Terran player, should be known by quite a few of you guys. Is offracing as Protoss this game.
dredredre: Another great old school player, offracing as Terran.
If it was these two playing straight up we might get an entertaining game nonetheless. But offrace, and on an odd map... hilarity ensues. You see, for offrace matches to be good, both players can't suck. But they can't be too good either. It's quite a delicate balance.
Enough jabber, let the games begin.
PART 1
+ Show Spoiler +
As your color commentators for the match today, we have Synikall and yours truly, Funnytoss. Although I'll mention that Synikall pretty much types nonstop throughout the game. CrAzY at 9 o'clock, dredredre at 3 o'clock.
Right off the bat, a wtf moment. CrAzY, you do realize this is PvT, not PvZ, right?
Ah, the standard PvT cannon rush. Of course!
dredredre suspects nothing. 15nr amirite?
... okay, something's wrong with this picture.
It's a race between whether the siege tank builds faster, or the cannon does! My money's on the siege tank. Cannons take FOREVER to warp in -___-
Synikall sums up the situation fairly well for CrAzY.
Zealots want a piece of the action! Buying time for the cannon to warp in!
No words necessary.
SCV imba.
Synikall wisely explaining CrAzY is fucked. He wasn't cheesy enough.
This game is strange enough as it is, but dredredre is taking it up a notch.
I bet he has something innocent planned...
And you see why Requiem is such an awesome map. Mineral line creating artificial wall to allow for perfect siege tank harass? Perfect!
In the meantime though, dredredre is finding it harder than he should to break out of his upward ramp. Dragoons snipe their first tank!
And another!
Synikall conveying the situation to the viewers profoundly. "Fail"
He suspects nothing.
Almost 8 minutes into the game, citadel warping, and no expansion in sight. BW is so standard and boring, let's go watch some ball vs ball action.
Like a pro, CrAzY senses something is up with his STARSENSE, and hops a probe over the mineral lines! Is dredredre's sneaky proxy fac plan doomed?
Proberto messed with the wrong SCV today. The secret is safe!
... dredredre is accumulating quite the army here O.o
Neo Requiem's architecture lends itself to some interesting strategies. Elevator drop!
Protoss ain't ever pushing these guys out. Not without disproportionate losses, at least.
dredredre deflected the elevator fairly well, but the reaver swings around the front for a breaking attempt!
The tank goes down!
KABOOM! The Protoss in me sheds manly zealot tears for CrAzY's precious Probertos.
KABOOM! Bring back the Reaver in SC2, Blizzard!
Tank down! dredredre is starting to feel the heat!
At the same time, the proxy tank is starting to shell the Nexus...
The attempt to dislodge these unwelcome intruders fails, with the shuttle *barely* getting away with one hit left.
The Terran consolidates his position and prepares to take advantage of his overwhelming economic advantage!
Nexus down! Where is your Adun now, puny Protoss?
PART 2
+ Show Spoiler +
Vultures mining up the front, and CrAzY hasn't even started an observer yet. Time for calls of "Fantasy GG-timing"?
No! The brave reaver/shuttle duo attempts to delay the dreaded 12 minute 3 tank 2 vulture 1 SCV Terran push!
Shades of Reach vs Oov. Except Reach was in better position.
However, never count a Protoss out! CrAzy begins his best Mantoss impression!
[insert Korean commentators going: "AAAAAHHHHHHHHH REEBO REEBO" here]
[insert cheering fangirl orgasms here]
As always, Synikall knows exactly how to sum up the atmosphere of the game.
Zealots prepare to hunt down a straggling tank! None shall escape to tell their tale of woe!
RUN, FORREST, RUN!
Incredibly determined, CrAzY picks up his zealots in a speedshuttle to continue hunting dredredre's tank.
Mission accomplished!
dredredre attempts to sneak some vultures into the base, but through a stroke of luck (or mad epic skills?) CrAzY just happens to have two zealots blocking the ramp, preserving his probe line!
However, having been stuck on one base for the entire game (pretty much), CrAzY's starting to run low on minerals!
Another skirmish in the middle of the map!
Time for some Bisu-esque goon vs mine micro!
Alternatively, some sweet minedragging. Shades of the Mantoss. Except with walking goons and no shuttle.
Yup, that pretty much sums it up.
Not *exactly* the most PC way to put it, but I suppose it's morbidly accurate.
Just a reminder that this SOB is still there denying the Protoss expansion.
I feel you brother, I feel you. T_T
This shuttle with zealots begs to differ regarding our proclamations of doom and gloom, however!
No way.
I have this feeling that mines have killed more Terran units than Protoss units this game
CrAzY puts up a valiant fight, and with dwindling resources he has to end this now! But it's mined out P vs 1.5 base T...
Focus fire! Two tanks down!
O.o
NEVER GIVE UP! TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS!
NEVER GIVE UP! NEVER SURRENDER!
For the record, I officially proclaim that I shall gladly give up my online handle to CrAzY if he asks for it.
I can't believe what I just watched O_O
More mine dragging!
Last tank, 34 minerals, no bases mining for either side. Might I remind you that all this started with a cannon rush.
And there was much Protoss rejoicing and sacrificing to Adun that day.
dredredre understands what really matters. A moral victory, if you will.
Well fought by both sides.
