"I'm pumped man. I'm ready. Lets do this!"
A lone marines voice boomed through the medivac. Everyone else already in it stared balefully back at him as the medivac started lifting off.
"Sit your ass down son" came the retort from the squad commander. "You're gonna need that energy when we land on those protoss scum."
He let a stream of smoke escape his mouth as he ashed his cigar, making the marine next to him cough and deploy his visor.
The energetic new recruit, freshly minted from a Dominion barracks, took the only empty seat in the vehicle. Naive and inexperienced enough not to fear actual combat situations, he sat there sweating and shaking in his pressurized power suit, hoping he wouldn't blow what he thought was his 'big chance' to prove himself.
As they were heading to their destination into the heart of the protoss encampment, the squad captain who'd remained silent almost the entire trip spoke up.
"Alright men. This is gonna be a quick hit and run mission. A Protoss Templar Archives has been sighted by our Orbital Command Scanner, and we need to take it out before the protoss can use it to summon the High Templar. I dont think I have to tell you what the consequences of failure are."
Several of the marines stared resolutely forward, grim looks on their faces as they remembered their close scrapes where they had managed to evade the fearsome destructive powers of the protoss High Templar. The new recruit chose a poor time to pipe up.
"How bad could they be? I mean its just some kinda voodoo shaman guy right?"
The squad captain palmed his face and decided to remain silent, as clearly at least one casualty on this mission would be inevitable.
Suddenly, the medivac pilots strong voice sounded over the speakers. "We are approaching destination A, 45 seconds to deployment before moving to destination B."
The Marines grabbed on to ropes designed to let them down rapidly without causing undue damage during the fall, and starting descending one by one, into the protoss base.
Even with the rope and the small parachute deployed, they came in fast and had to spend several seconds getting up and steadying themselves. When they looked up, they immediately saw their target, as it was difficult to miss.
A giant triangular gleaming golden structure, at the heart of which resided a khaydarin crystal, a source of immense energy, which allowed beings of humongous power such as high templar to travel between destinations using warpgates.
"Alright men use your stimpacks and lets MOVE!"
Sighs and groans of pleasure and grunts of expanding muscles filled the air, as the marines gained immense strength and speed from the stimulant coursing through their veins. They formed an arc immediately as they were trained to, and focused their fire onto the structure, tearing it down bit by bit.
"Uh boss, wheres the backup medivac?" Came a nervous marines voice through the built in intercom in all their powersuits.
The squad captain looked back at the first medivac already leaving to another location to transport more troops, but the backup medivac they were promised was nowhere on the horizon.
"Its coming you women, now finish off the archives and get to the cliff edge!"
Just as the squad captain had finished roaring out the order, the Templar Archives began to crumble and suddenly imploded in a burst of blue light which caused them to look away.
"Quick boys, run to the ledge, the medivac is in sight!"
And as every marine was running in the direction the medivac was supposed to arrive at, they immediately froze and could move no further. It was not of their own volition, an invisible barrier blocked their way. They ran their hands up and down the invisible wall, and through it behind them could see 5 round glowing objects, surrounded by delicate machinery orbiting around them. Shortly they were joined by giant lean armored Zealots. They stared with unbridled hostility at the marines caught in the force field, but could do nothing for now.
"What the hell are you goofs waiting for? We can fire through this thing you know?!"
They immediately opened fire on the Zealots and forced them to back off, some among them even laughing as they did so. With the force fields guarding them, nothing could harm them.
Suddenly one of the marines started pointing and shouting something. the others couldn't hear him as his visor was up and thus the communication system didnt work. They all stared at what he was pointing at, and started scrambling in fear, trying to find a way to get out of the invisible domes that surrounded them.
"I...I thought we destroyed the Archives!" Stuttered the recruit.
"Doesnt mean they didn't manage to bring a few through already boy." replied the marine trapped beside him.
3 Templar approached them, eyes glowing with power, raising their hands as they approached.
And then it started.
The sky instantly started spiraling, and where there were once no clouds, a low hanging black cloud appeared, and started sparkling with what appeared to be electricity.
Almost as if by a miracle, the rope from the medivac dropped down, and most of the marines managed to grab onto it before the medivac turned around, to make sure not to fall into the path of the Psionic Storm conjured by the powerful Protoss mystics. The Marines that had managed to board the medivac looked back with horror in their eyes as they watched their squadmates get roasted alive, electricity running through their bodies and tearing them apart.
Well, at least they were safe.
As they stared at the area ensconced by the force fields, being clouded by storms, they missed that there were two more Templar right under them, energy already forming in their hands as they channeled more of it through their bodies.
In less time than it takes to blink, psionic energies tore through the medivac, using its own power sources to increase the damage as they all exploded and tore the ship into several pieces, instantly destroying every marine inside.
And thats why you really should check if your opponent has templar before medivac dropping.
