I'm looking for skilled EU server Desert Strike players. If you want some cool crazy games write to me - I am overling.585 on EU. Share your Desert Strike strategies here!
For now let's make a compendium of knowledge about SC2 Desert Strike.
Everything below should be correct assuming opposing players take more gases at about the same time.
In general it's risky to tech from T1 to T3 if you are not ahead. Rushing T3 will always result in losing a cannon at some point even of both allies are doing fine. However rushing for T3 can be a game winning move if both allies are doing good.
Usually relying heavily on most T1 units makes the combo stronger (with few exceptions).
Roaches and Banelings terribly beat various bio combos but Marauders beat Roaches. Roach Hydra is a strong combo but it loses to (Zealot) Archon Immortal. Pure Roaches are stronger than Queen Roach.
Zealots beat Marines until Marines reach a critical mass. Zealot vs Roach is a close match but Roaches usually win. Zealots always beat Stalkers, Marauders, Tanks, Zerglings, Hydras, Immortals. Zealots lose to Reapers, Reaper Marine, Marine Ghost, Archons (when Archons reach critical mass).
Ravens beat almost everything zerg has - I'm not sure about Queens and Brood Lords can be a bitch since Ravens waste hunter seeker missiles on Broodlings. They lose to many Protoss combos, pure Marine, Marine Viking and Marine Ghost.
Pure Marine beats almost everything: Ravens, Zerglings, Stalkers, Immortals, any sort of Tier 3 units rush, heavy Hydra combos, pure Thor, pure Tank, Void Rays, Marauders, any Protoss combo without High Templars (rushing Colossus is usually too expensive), Banshees, Marine Medivac(!!). Marines lose to Reapers, Marine Ghost, Reaper Marine, Hellions, Roaches, Banelings.
Terran mech (Hellion, Thor, Siege Tank) beats zergling baneling.
Reapers beat Zerglings, Zealots and Marines. Reaper Marine beats Zealots and Zealot Stalker but can lose to pure Stalker or Stalker Sentry. Reapers of course also lose to Marauders.
Mutalisks suck ass. In my experience its very rare to have a chance to use them efficiently, anything that shoots air counters them.
Siege Tanks are a great addition to a bio force, they can absolutely smash opposing bio force or other ranged units. For some reason they unsiege to engage Colossus oO. I don't get that. Usually they don't siege in time to shoot at melee units before those approach close enough to engage. What's great about tanks is they survive longer battles and help next waves of units.
Vikings beat any air unit.
Void Rays beat Corruptors, BC, Carrier, Mutalisks. They lose to Stalkers, Hydras, Queens and Marines.
Immortals are amazing against anything armored. Stalkers, Ultralisks, Thors, Siege Tanks Roaches, Marauders just get shred to pieces.
When I remember something more I'll post it.

I just tried a protoss strategy for it tonight, which works out perfectly whenever there's no terran opponent.
"The abuse lack of Emp-strategy with T2 shieldmanastuff"
I Directly go for tier 2, DT to annoy and force him to tech tier 2 and obs,, gas up and go for archons. Then let the army build up with Archons and many immortals, when u hit three gas, go for pure high templar for a while.
It got well surrounded by mass stalkers for a while, but eventually my immorals (yes that's what they're really named) outnumbered them.
For as long as the game progresses your're high tech units will inevidably outnumber your opponents tier one stuff even if he'll have a "midgame" advantage. In the end though those massed blink stalkers that rolled u over will die to the same population of immortals, your archons will meatshield anything. But what if they go for air? My high health units did enough damage anyway when they'd tech switch to last until my ally arrived, but adding voidrays or anything like it works out fine.

Honestly sometimes I find EMP inferior to HTs. HTs just cast storm too fast while Ghosts get behind huge bio ball or waste energy on random snipes. Anyway thanks for sharing ^^

I find zerg really weak, unless you mass broodlords. Maybe i'm just bad at this ums :p

I expected you to talk about when to get gasses, when to get static D, and such like that.

Usually I take gases ASAP because even if opponents delay their own and have more units, they will lose later on because of less money. If my wave is first then I make those ~3 buildings first and then make a gas...
... but what static defense dude?
BTW I remembered:
Thors are great in massive air fights, I mainly mean against Vikings, Void Rays and Mutalisks for example in situation when someone masses them is response to capital ships. There's 2 more things I remembered but forgot now >_<
