Trying to remember an indie game...

Okay, so this is really really bothering me. I remember this game, and I really want to find it and the website (as there were several other cool-looking games hosted there), but I can't remember the name or google it up for the life of me.

It was a sprite-based horizontal side-scrolling shooter that felt very much in the vein of games like gunstar heroes and other Treasure games. It was fast-moving with elaborate visuals (it was definitely a pretty game), there were a lot of explosions and general badassery filling your screen. If I remember right, your character had both shooting and melee attacks, as well as (maybe) some kind of dodge function. I believe it definitely got some acclaim on various gaming blogs and whatnot for being quite good, but I can't dig up anything.

It was indie, made by one guy, hosted on his website, where there were definitely other similar games. You could buy it for a rather low price or go for the trial version. It had a system where if you have the trial version, you couldn't continue if you ran out of lives. I don't recall if you could play more than the first stage in the trial, though.

I'm pretty sure it was released in 2010, but 2009 is also a possibility.

Sorry if this isn't much to go off of, but PLEASE HELP! T_T

Was this game hard as hell also? I remember a platformer type game that got huge acclaim a few year ago. It had to be played in a relatively tiny windowed mode. I could have sworn it was called Braid or Bone but I can't find it either.

It was definitely difficult, but more in an old-school shooter kind of way, relying on reflexes and memorization. It wasn't Braid (that game's more of a puzzler). It got some acclaim, but nowhere near as much as that game.

Were you possible a ninja character and did you jump around (or maybe like a floaty-ish jump)? Did the game have a Japanese sounding name?

I remember a few years back there was this side-scrolling/platform hybrid-y type game where you basically spammed bullets while dodging and blowing things up and I think you had a dodge/melee attack as well.

I can't remember the name of it or find any mention of it though, the one I am thinking of was called something Love I think.

EDIT: This is what I was thinking of though it might not be what you meant as it's more melee than shooting.

Maaaaaayyyybe. That sounds close, but I know that the game itself was in English. I do remember doing a lot of jumping. Unfortunately it's hella hard to google a game called "Love". -_-

Another detail: I remember that the game cost like $15, and this might have made a bit of a stir since that was pretty damn high for a random indie game at the time.

I found the game I was thinking of: Bonesaw!

http://www.kylepulver.com/view.php?id=12

That might not be what you were looking for but it got rave reviews back in the day for being awesome and also hard as fuck.

I'll ninja this thread~ OK this is really not much to go on but I remember this character that sort of resembled the cartoon character Freakazoid. It was an adventure side scrolling game and the only thing I have is that he would be running around with giant kitchen-ware around~ giant plates and if you were to fall down you'd die because there would be giant forks at the bottom~

What I remember distinctively is his death animation lol~ he would drop to his knees and it was as if he were in a straight jacket hugging himself and and bobbing his head back and forth really hard then he would just fall face first to the ground.
