I never think back to my college application days now (2nd year student now) and it really won't matter in the long run; I like where I am now. But I wish I got an answer from my dream school--I only applied 3 places, with MIT being my analogous "dream school". I did the early application--was like the first person to schedule the optional interview with the regional alumni and trying to show the "interest" in the school-- and was deferred to the regular deadline. Then, I got waitlisted. I never actually got an answer despite "trying" hard; just felt like a wasted effort stressing over the application and all. And having to wait for the timer to release the decision a second time was even more stressful! An answer is sometimes better than nothing!

Just cause you got rejected once doesn't mean you don't stop trying! On December 11 2011 11:28 CoolSea wrote: If you really want to go to Columbia or any other school that you have been rejected from here is the easy way how: go to your state school for a year or two, kick ass there, and then transfer. A lot of my friends ended up doing this with the schools that they got rejected from, and in the end you get the same degree as those people who went there for all four years. I actually think that it is better to go to an "easier" school for the first one to two years for a few reasons. The first is that the core classes at the state schools are easier and less demanding then they are at an ivy league school, and since you can transfer a lot of core class credits fairly easily it's better to get those classes out of the way at a non-ivy league school. The second reason is that it is fucking expensive to go to an ivy league school. I mean, holy shit, who wants to pay tens of thousands of dollars to take classes like Math 110, Eng 101, and Bio 201 for the first year you're there. Going to a state school is more rational in the fact that you're paying much less to take these kinds of classes. Anyways, cheer up! Like you said, I am sure you'll be happy wherever you go, and you should go with the highest of expectations because it will be one of the best periods of your life! Also, I had a friend who went to an ivy league school (Stanford) a totally cool and laid back guy, and then came back as this uptight, snobby, douchy walking abomination. I'd hate to see that same happen to you. Yeah I definitely plan on going for state school => transfer if I don't get in anywhere better. Who knows if I'll still like Columbia in two years though? :O On December 11 2011 10:53 3 Lions wrote: unichan i think you and i should go to NYU together <3 Lol, we'll see if I get in, then maybe! NYU is expensive doee. On December 11 2011 10:58 The_LiNk wrote: I got rejected from University of Toronto and was utterly crushed. I know how you feel. I think that was the one moment in my life where I went "fuck this shit!" because it was the only school I truly wanted to attend; well, Waterloo or Western too but to a lesser degree and I didn't apply to those. What other schools did you apply to? I like that Jessica picture and your use of it. Hilarious stuff. Also, like some above user said, you can re-apply next year. I'm re-applying to University of Toronto after this semester. I'll be damned if I get rejected. I do. I got to a satellite campus of University of Toronto. Fucking hate that place with a passion. Makes me angry that this place has the name University of Toronto when it's not University of Toronto. I applied to a lot, LOL. Caltech, UMD early, I'm going to apply to carnegie mellon, rice, stanford, princeton, haverford, swarthmore, NYU, cornell, MIT and ST MARY'S COLELGE OF MARYLAND~~. Despite not being my first choice I've found in the first semester that I've completed that I like it a lot more than I thought I would- the campus is awesome, I've had decent professors, met some really cool people- point being (and you seem to have reached this conclusion anyway) that just cause you didn't end up at Columbia doesn't mean you'll be unhappy wherever you end up. I know people who did get into their first choice and are now miserable, and people like me who got rejected (or couldn't afford, or w/e) their first choice and are loving college. Also, I recommend MIT, or any Boston-area college in general. Partly cause I like the city, but also as a "college town" there are tons of young people and tons of shit to do. Concerts, plays, etc., and you definitely do meet people going to nearby colleges. Several friends have girl/boyfriends from other campuses, friends that go nearby, etc., and although I got to BU there's a MIT frat across the street for some reason lol
