Some of you might remember my blog about college apps, and that I applied early decision for Columbia University.

I never had a "dream school," except for Yale, which doesn't really count because I think that was only because of Gilmore Girls. I went around visiting colleges though, and Columbia was the one place I really really liked. I was always interested in living in a big city like New York, and after visiting there again, I decided that it was my #1 place to attend college at. I visited NYU also, but I liked Columbia's "campus" a lot more, NYU's collection of buildings was cooler than I thought it'd be, but it wasn't what I was looking for. Since I visited, I looked at other schools, but as I looked at them, and compared them to Columbia, I became more and more obsessed. Columbia became the closest thing to a dream school I ever had, so I applied early decision because I felt like it would maximize my chances of acceptance. Results came out two days ago at 5 PM, I was so nervous in the week leading up to it. I was pretty sure I wasn't going to make it due to my terrible terrible terrible GPA, but was hopeful that my math competition experience and art stuff. I am also the only one from my magnet program to apply to SEAS early, I was hoping so hard that they had to want to make sure they got one of us. They had a countdown on their page, and I sat here all the numbers reached zero reached 0 and this showed up...
Anyways, for anyone who likes to guess, I will put the results and the rest of the post in a spoiler! ^_~

tl;dr no. unichan does not go to college!

Fuck you Jessica!

Jk, at first I was like ok, this is fine, I expected this. I even chatted this guy I know at Columbia and told him I got rejected. I also had my 8 year old brother in my room for moral support. After around 15 minutes though, it started to hit me, and I was really sad. I didn't go to school yesterday and the day before either, I felt pretty sick. I also went invis on AIM and gtalk and ignored everyone's texts and stuff. My mom was in a meeting and called/texted me but I think she figured it out after I ignored her lol. Then I went on the college confidential results boards and looked at the people who got in there (DON'T DO THIS) and I raged silently at affirmative action. I am still raging silently at affirmative action. Sux2be asian. Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I know Columbia isn't the only school out there, but after a while it started to feel like it. I just got rejected from Caltech too today, and it really sucks. I know I'll probably be happy wherever I end up anyways, I'm just hoping that it's not at my state school. State school would be okay too, I just wanna try something new.
Going on facebook was also a bad idea too, the FIRST FUCKING THING I SAW was "columbia 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!" or some shit like that and it had like 100 likes and comments and I just wanted to cry again. Then I scrolled down and there were a bunch of UPENNIS 2016!!!!!!!!! and I was like oh god get me out of here but I didn't close it in time to see the status of the other person who got into Columbia. Congrats to you guys, but I am still very sad. :'( Getting rejected is a terrible terrible feeling.
Anyways, no more QQ

To those of you who got into your dream/first choice school, congratulations!
To my fellow rejectees who just had their dreams shattered and crushed and stomped on and beat up, hwaiting!! We'll all get into great schools that we will love, and life will hopefully go on.
Time for some inspirational kpoopz!

"Specially dedicated to high school seniors who received their results for the university entrance exams, the lyrics of "Never Give Up" encompasses the worries, hopes, and dreams that students face during their teens and young adulthood." - allkpop
Never give up, I know this song isn't really that great but I liked the upbeat sound to it and the gospel chorus. As long as you can ignore Bang Yong Guk's I'M BACK IN DA SKUL BACK IN DA SKULLLL part, the lyrics are pretty relatable too.
NEVER GIVE UP!~~~~~~

I haven't been rejected (yet) but my early admission was fucked because teachers need to do evaluations ><.

Here's to not getting in, God knows i've been in the mindset that I'll fail at everywhere I'll apply to and end up going to community.

Cheer up unichan ^^

i went through like 30 pages of tumblr for this:

I guessed you got rejected... do I win a prize? I got rejected ED to Cornell when I applied. Turned out not to be a big deal.
I barely think about it anymore... D; five, ten times a day tops! I swear!

You can still re-apply next year or 2 years. Go to a different school get some gen-eds outta the way boost your GPA and re-apply. Just cause you got rejected once doesn't mean you don't stop trying!

I got rejected from University of Toronto and was utterly crushed. I know how you feel. I think that was the one moment in my life where I went "fuck this shit!" because it was the only school I truly wanted to attend; well, Waterloo or Western too but to a lesser degree and I didn't apply to those. What other schools did you apply to?

I like that Jessica picture and your use of it. Hilarious stuff.

Also, like some above user said, you can re-apply next year. I'm re-applying to University of Toronto after this semester. I'll be damned if I get rejected.

I do. I got to a satellite campus of University of Toronto. Fucking hate that place with a passion. Makes me angry that this place has the name University of Toronto when it's not University of Toronto.

they have too many insane candidates to ever feel bad when you get rejected. the college doesn't make the man, though. you can find plenty of strong programs and professors and networking opportunities at non ivy-tier schools. just look at the ceo's of fortune 500 companies. a lot of them went to state schools, but you probably already know that.

I got rejected from both my first and second choices, and it absolutely killed me inside. I felt the exact same way as you and it sucks, hard. Those people with their "herpaderp I got accepted yay class of 20xx blahblah" statuses are depressing when you're in that kind of situation, I know that too.

Some kid wrote something like "Accepted to X school of business. Not that excited." I wanted to punch him in the face.

University rejects unite! :'( Life goes on...

Ahh, got rejected from my dream schools too...but having a great time in college and learning a lot and meeting really smart people. Don't get too down on yourself! My friend who got into MIT (which was pretty much my dream school) is swamped in work...although it was his dream school as well I'm not sure if he's really that suited for it. Keep your eyes open for other schools you may like (:

Which satellite campus? I we t to UTSC and as far as I know, it is very easy to get transfered to the main campus.

TBH this benefited me greatly. There are a lot of employment opportunities at UTSC; in my later years I almost exclusively took courses at downtown and only worked at UTSC.

If you really want to go to Columbia or any other school that you have been rejected from here is the easy way how: go to your state school for a year or two, kick ass there, and then transfer. A lot of my friends ended up doing this with the schools that they got rejected from, and in the end you get the same degree as those people who went there for all four years.

I actually think that it is better to go to an "easier" school for the first one to two years for a few reasons. The first is that the core classes at the state schools are easier and less demanding then they are at an ivy league school, and since you can transfer a lot of core class credits fairly easily it's better to get those classes out of the way at a non-ivy league school. The second reason is that it is fucking expensive to go to an ivy league school. I mean, holy shit, who wants to pay tens of thousands of dollars to take classes like Math 110, Eng 101, and Bio 201 for the first year you're there. Going to a state school is more rational in the fact that you're paying much less to take these kinds of classes.

Anyways, cheer up! Like you said, I am sure you'll be happy wherever you go, and you should go with the highest of expectations because it will be one of the best periods of your life!

Also, I had a friend who went to an ivy league school (Stanford) a totally cool and laid back guy, and then came back as this uptight, snobby, douchy walking abomination. I'd hate to see that same happen to you.

don't get down on yourself!

I never think back to my college application days now (2nd year student now) and it really won't matter in the long run; I like where I am now. But I wish I got an answer from my dream school--I only applied 3 places, with MIT being my analogous "dream school". I did the early application--was like the first person to schedule the optional interview with the regional alumni and trying to show the "interest" in the school-- and was deferred to the regular deadline. Then, I got waitlisted. I never actually got an answer despite "trying" hard; just felt like a wasted effort stressing over the application and all. And having to wait for the timer to release the decision a second time was even more stressful!

An answer is sometimes better than nothing!

It's always nice to get into your first choice, so be sure to read up on schools until you find a school you love even more than Columbia, and hope you get into that one.

Good luck!

Yeah I definitely plan on going for state school => transfer if I don't get in anywhere better. Who knows if I'll still like Columbia in two years though? :O

Yeah I got rejected from my top 3 schools to go to lol, got into my fourth. Despite not being my first choice I've found in the first semester that I've completed that I like it a lot more than I thought I would- the campus is awesome, I've had decent professors, met some really cool people- point being (and you seem to have reached this conclusion anyway) that just cause you didn't end up at Columbia doesn't mean you'll be unhappy wherever you end up. I know people who did get into their first choice and are now miserable, and people like me who got rejected (or couldn't afford, or w/e) their first choice and are loving college.

Feel free to not answer if it's too personal but where else did you/are you going to apply?
edit-nvm read the post above me.

No I just saw you list them in the post above me while I was writing my post.

Also, I recommend MIT, or any Boston-area college in general. Partly cause I like the city, but also as a "college town" there are tons of young people and tons of shit to do. Concerts, plays, etc., and you definitely do meet people going to nearby colleges. Several friends have girl/boyfriends from other campuses, friends that go nearby, etc., and although I got to BU there's a MIT frat across the street for some reason lol

its ok unichan at least you had the balls to apply to an ivy.

I would have only submitted to columbia to send them fake tabloid stories in my portfolio so I could troll their journalism program.

I got rejected from a bunch of colleges. UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UCLA... etc. The list goes on!
I was pretty bummed about it too. My grades were pretty good, my SAT scores were pretty good... But still, not good enough by their standards. Oh well.

Then I went to a regular, non-ultra prestigious college. Then I graduated in 2 years, at age 19, with my bachelor's in business management.

Got a full time job 3 months after graduating. My current salary is a little bit more than how much it cost my parents to send me to college.

All my friends who are currently at the colleges I got rejected from are now struggling, scared shitless about trying to get a career and are buried in their student loans.

Sometimes college isn't all it's cracked up to be... So don't be too bummed.

Sorry to hear that, college apps are always so stressful..

Still better than me, I only applied to the one school I knew I was guaranteed to get into.. my home town. Literally like 10 minutes from my parents house. At least you tried! Unichan 화이팅!

Don't worry, you'll get in somewhere you'll probably love. College is what you make of it! (read: don't be an idiot like me)

also, lol CollegeConfidential... the #1 concentration of angst on the internet. It's unhealthy to go there unless you're trolling ;D

don't worry abou getting rejected early, all the top schools are fn HARD to get in, and it just gets harder every year. I applied to around 14-15 schools, got into my safeties and only 2 out of 10 reach schools... going to Cornell now and I love it got deferred->rejected EA Yale. If you've got what it takes, you'll make it in the end. and in the end, it doesn't rly matter where you go, just what you make of it.

The TL college acceptance thread is #@$!ing scary... lol

Oh well, good luck, get your applications done sooner rather than later, motivate yourself to do them! (Although I still haven't done any other than my early app... still hearing about results.)

Well, in perspective, 5 years from now none of this will really matter... hopefully...

I was halfway through making a list of the places I've been rejected from during my life, but let's just say it was too long for TL. And also too hurtful

Cheer up, you'll get somewhere awesome, good things come to those who wait.

EDIT: Got this the first time I tried posting this + Show Spoiler +
