I think that's the opposite of what you want to do. they'll reject you if you go below a certain grade won't they?

No - they'd only revoke your acceptance if you did absolutely awful (failed all your classes). Grats OP!

Congrats man! Northwestern is a really good school, and a lot of fun. A couple close friends of mine went there, and after two random weekend visits and two Dillo Days I never came away disappointed. It's not easy, but I'm sure you'll do great.

Yeah, student loans are the worst thing ever. I agree, man. I'm like $10k in debt and it's horrible.

Is grade inflation so bad now that slacking off the end of your senior year only results in B's? For shame.

people laughed at me my whole life becuz i never (and frankly my parents instilled this me) trusted credit in any way period. "go to the best college go to the best grad school it'll be worth it." i understood them, but now i'm very happy with my decisions (and happy I got yelled at by my parents when i whined about not going ND or Duke or Cornell. Might have been worth it for yale/harv... but I never had that problem ;p

people are always so grandiose with their self judgements. "yeah i didnt even go to class and i got Bs, that class is so ez" "I don't even have to pay attention and I'm getting 90s", always saying "yeah I'm getting around 85%, that's average, that's ok."
I keep wondering if people are actually just bs'ing. what kind of person would do that?

This probably isn't the right attitude to have. If you go into college being like "whatever, school" it will be pretty hard to get your act together again when college does start for you

eh, senior year you can slack off though once you've been accepted. I did so and had no problem working hard(ish) again in college.

Congrats OP! Having grown up near NW and having tons of friends go there, it's an awesome place to go to college.

I'm not saying one way or another with the OP. I figure he's probably telling the truth. But, I will say this much, and that is that all through college, people were constantly saying how they never studied and didn't even have to in such and such class, blah blah..., because if anyone found out they had to actually "try," they would be ashamed of their own intelligence level. It's funny how in the States people are embarrassed if they weren't born with obscene levels of talent, while in Korea they are ashamed if they didn't earn it.

I think both cultures miss the mark, though, because you should work hard in life, but not everyone starts on a level playing field. Talent is a gift you cannot earn.

It depends on the person. You can say that some people don't pick it up again, but there are just as many people who slack off senior year and then get straight As in college.

Besides, once you're in college studying something you (hopefully) like, you'll (hopefully) work harder at it by virtue of the fact that you like it and therefore get better grades.

congrats, just remember that getting into college is just the beginning of your real academic career. a lot of high schoolers have the mindset of "if i get into xyz college i am set!" and end up being on academic probation once they get to their dream school.

It's even worse if you never put any effort in highschool. I have 19.2 out of 20.00 (an A gives 20, a B gives 15 and C gives 10, add all your courses up and divied them and I put 0 effort into highschool. Does that mean I'm a smartypants? Fuck no I just have real easy for the school formula of doing things, when I got to Uni I got smashed to the ground cause it actually aquired some effort something I wasn't used to at all.

I have 2 degrees and am working at a gas station...well that's in NC, but I'm kinda bitter about that. Anyhow I'm close to 10k in debt, but luckily since I don't make much at all I get to put off loan payments until I can get a job worthy of my education -,-

10k debt is nothing tbh. after my bachelor's i had 14k debt. i didn't make very much at my first job and by living relatively frugally for the first 6 months i was able to pay off 6k of it by the end of a year. this was while i paid rent for an apartment, gas, food, etc. now i'm going for more education and by the end of it i'll be around 200k+ in debt lol.

T_T Debt.... I don't really want to think about that. And by slacking off I mean straight B's... Meh trying for A's is annoying considering my course load (Calc 3, AP Stats, Lin Al, AP Chem, AP Themes, etc.)

the national average is 23k I think. 200k is madness, and stupid. NO undergrad is worth the risk of 200k not even the best schools.

Yeah, debt seems to be the norm amongst a lot of my friends right now. Many are a year or two out of uni and a lot have amassed 30-40k in debt. I'm fortunate and am in the plus, which I have worked very hard for all myself. But just thinking about their situation makes my stomach turn sometimes. I have a friend who just said eff it and went off to the oil rigs in Alberta on a 3 year stinge to pay it all off once and for all. Another friend will finish his doctorate over in the states with around half a million in debt. He says he's worth more dead than alive, lol.

I heard recently the Canadian avg debt by the end of uni is ~27k. And pair that with the difficulty and competitiveness to find a job... ouch.
