One thing that I really hate is when the camera cuts to the player's face in the middle of a game. And it's not just that I don't know the players that well-- I would hate it even if it was my favorite player. I like how MLG has a tiny player cam in the bottom so you can watch if you want to without having the game interrupted. (But I like to see after they win of course.)

Other than that it's been pretty good. People always answer a question I have in stream chat. Some games are boring and some are exciting. I dunno the builds and such but I can follow along with my understanding from SC2, in terms of generally when someone's ahead and when someone is behind. It's really good they put up the overlay with resources and supply count cause that helps me a lot. XD Mostly I watch that and the minimap to figure out how the game is going. I am not familiar enough with units to tell just from watching the main screen.

That, my dear, is the much beloved Doom Zoom.

Well, all I have seen of it so far has been staring at the screen. No funny faces. I guess those examples are a good deal better. (I immediately equated it to Day9 dailies where he cuts to a troll face in the middle of the game and just looks at you a moment before going back.)

Also I do watch the actual game most of the time, I mean I just have to look at the minimap and supply/resources to figure out who is winning, because I can't tell in terms of tech/army composition.

Proleague has been awesome so far! Now that the number of games have been reduced, I can actually watch every single game.

As others have mentioned Sayle's stream is really what helped me get into BW. I'd been playing both SC and BW back when they came quite a bit with friends and at PC cafés but never knew of a competitive scene back then.

When Starcraft 2 was announced I was obviously excited, having very good memories of the first starcraft games, and this was when I first was made aware of the huge korean BW scene. At first it all seemed a bit too confusing. I had no experience watching RTS or even playing them competitively. Instead I started watching SC2 beta casts.

Since SC2 was still in it's infancy, it was a lot easier to approach both as a spectator and as a player. There was even a lot of videos specifically aimed at people without any sort experience watching Starcraft. When the game released I got placed into platinum without any sort of RTS background which of course motivated me to play even more.

Then a few months ago I watched some BW VODs again. Last time I had watched any, it had all seemed confusing as hell, but now I could suddenly sense the depth of the game, appreciate the crisp execution and gasp at the awesome micro. I was hooked.

I have watched 3-4 games from the new season of PL already, and I'm sure I'll keep watching as much as I have time for. Now I just gotta fins myself a favourite team/players. I tried watching the korean broadcast but I must say I much prefer an english rebroadcast. Probably because I don't have the immense knowledge about BW strats I feel more confortable with someone holding my hand through it.

So in a time when people on the forums are screaming about the war between BW and SC2, I feel good saying I watch Brood War because I've played SC2, not in spite of

Having someone like Sayle tell you what's going on is immensely helpful. I know when I first got into BW seriously back in the beginning of the 09-10 Proleague season, the casters helped me get into the scene a lot.

I am talking about, of course, the Korean casters. Being Korean is hax

The thing is in BW, food counts between races are not equivalent, nor are resource counts. You can't really determine from that who is winning, and it can be down right misleading.

For example, in PvT it is the normal for Protoss to have a higher food count than Terran, and they'll hit 200/200 faster, causing a massive amount of money to be banked for a short time. However, because Terran have more efficient units, Protoss food tends to drop more and thus the amount of money they banked becomes important. Thus, before the fight, you can't really just say who's winning from food/supply count.

In general though(this is over generalizing, but good enough for here), Z should be up a base on T/P for it to be even, and P should be up a base on T for it to be even.
T generally has more supply than Z.
P generally has more supply than T or Z

They do however, show the resource counter/food counter on occasion.

T1 HWAIIIITING!!!!!!!!!!!

The only thing I don't understand is why there won't be a grand final:<

? yea there will be.. there will be two grand finals in fact

Really?:O
They way I understood it there will be 2 winners so I thought that there will be no finals for some reason.hmmm

two seasons, two winners

mm, in the past, they had the winner of each season play each other in a Grand Final. But this is ok too I guess

ooh is that right? I always thought it was just regular matches -> playoffs -> finals with a little Winners League interlude (with it's own playoff and finals) in the middle

Yep, see http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=66837 for example.

I'm not completely new to bw, I started waching earlier this year. Bw made me find nanashin's stream which i <3.

I remember watching JvF first, I think it was the OSL Fanta won when they were in groups and I fell in love.

I watched KT win last year and loved Flash for carrying his team, I felt anxious before Jangbi won.

As a Kt fan its saddening to see them not doninating,

But watching all of KT/Team8, and Ace/CJ as well as some of t8/skt and kt/ace made me feel ckxbsjkskr

When horang2

dwebbed the FUCK out of everything, after effort had already come out to destroy everythig and after i got to see hydra's muta micro.

Oh man. Bw is fucking epic.

The time lets me Watch right before GSL too, so its perfect.

OKAY FROM THAT PERSPECTIVE I SEE WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT

Having someone tell you whats going on is waaay easier to follow than to start crawling around liquipedia trying to find the exact pieces of information. Also (and please bear with me here, I know a lot of the oldschool BW followers are really into their korean commentators, which is perfectly okay) it is easier to understand whats happening if you don't have to think, oh god commentators getting excited, wtf am I missing again. To me the korean commentators, as much energy and emotion they bring to the game, are just distracting me from trying to follow the action. And following the action is hard enough if you've, like me, never ever played a single 1v1 of BW in your life.

Everything I know about BW I learned from reading PL/MSL/OSL writeups on TL, and while the information there is really well organized and beginner friendly, it's incredibly hard to really retain all that information from a text. I love watching BW, I sometimes watched it before Sayle's rebroadcast, and loved it back then as well, but seeing the game, having a friendly person tell you whats happening, and actually understanding whats going on makes the whole experience 10 times better. I got into Sc2 through Husky and HD, and now Sayle is able to pull me further into the wonderful world of professional Brood War

What amazes me most about Broodwar is how incredibly mapped out every strategy is and how precise people are able to play and execite such a complicated game. That level of detail is just not there yet in SC2 and that is what makes wachting BW so amazing for me, it's a little bit of a look into the future, while looking at the past at the same time.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you Sayle, as well as every other person investing time to make TL the amazing Brood War Place it is. Each and every single one of you deserve a fucking award. I am sorry for not beeing able to call out people by name, but this well oiled BroodWar machine you?we? teamliquid anyways has going will never die as long as you are here, keeping it awesome!

If any of the above Text has offended you as a BW veteran, I want to humbly apologize. It is not my intention to spark controversy, I just want to express my love for 2 games that are entirely different, but at the same time a little bit similar as well If you're a SC2 person offended by this, man up and appreciate this wonderful game, without which "our" sc2 would not exist.

Hell yeah! This can't be said enough, NuketheStars has been putting out quality BW commentaries for a long time. You should definitely check out the last OSL finals, it's widely regarded as being the most exciting finals in a long time.

A build is not a guess, an estimation or a hunch, a feeling, or a foolish intuition. A build is a dependable, unwavering, unarguably accurate, portrayer of your ambition.

Went back out of pure nostalgia for the good ol' days. Felt good man hearing the screaming commentators again, not understanding a thing that was being said, and seeing that level of play. Really felt good.

Watched tail end of PL last year and final rounds of OSL. The games were great, the players talented (and handsome), the LR thread sane and safe, the crowds emotional and infectious.

What more could you wish for?

Also, FPL really adds to the entertainment value of watching PL. Despite being way down there with R1CH and Mani.

Sayle is the best commentator we've had since Tasteless (I still love you Nuke). I've been around for a couple years so I don't have a problem watching with korean commentary, but he still points out a lot of things going on in the game that I wouldn't have thought about myself watching without english commentary. So, it's not only beginner friendly

Plus, watching Sayle's rebroadcast rather than screwing up my sleep to watch live is awesome. It won't do for Khan matches or Stork/Jangbi OSL matches though! wouldn't miss those live for the world.

bw ain't nostalgic at all , we are living in the present hence it's not nostalgia when everytime I load up a proleague vod or even watching proleague live, the game is so fresh and entertaining that I can almost feel that I am in the OGN hall there live with the players battling out with their lives . Broodwar for life ... 4/5 for rawr
