Season 4 Overall: 3-2
Day: 1-2
Placement: Gold (Rank: 100)
Game 1
PvP
WIN
Map: Metalopolis
Player: Prosecutor
Quick Summary
Basic PvP. Punished a quick expand with some 3-Gate Robo pressure which resulted in a win.
Build
3-Gate Robo (GRGG)
What to Work On
Not enough scouting of the map. Opponent could have hidden expansion or proxied more (or closer) pylons. Need to keep a presence. Missed a couple of probe queues. Money got sort of high towards the end, should have found ways to spend it (since my opponent had a Nexus and I could have afforded one, I should have dropped one myself when I pushed).
What I Liked
Good base scouting. Saw the expansion drop and reacted properly by pushing with a superior force. Kept money low until just before the end, spending it where it was needed. Split probes decently well and did not over-saturate (since I had no plans of expanding once I saw what my opponent was doing).
Game 2
PvP
LOSS
Map: The Shattered Temple
Player: Aftershock
Quick Summary
Major screw-up. Went to drop Cybernetics Core but opponent's probe passed through the drop zone as I went to do so. I didn't notice. Late core = Late Stalkers = Loss. Need to pay more attention.
Build
3-Gate Robo (GRGG)
What to Work On
The obvious: need to pay more attention. I should have known my Cybernetics Core wasn't up, but I didn't, and that was a very costly mistake. I should be checking on building progress, not simply be content that I placed them and that means they're down. I could have also handled the engagement better with my Sentries to delay. Would likely have lost anyways, but maybe with an Immortal and a few Stalkers I might have been able to eek out a save. His forces overwhelmed me! Protoss Imba.
What I Liked
Did a reasonable job scouting and trying to keep the Xel'naga tower. However, all of that information is meaningless if I don't have the infrastructure to respond.
Game 3
PvZ
LOSS
Map: Tal'darim Altar
Player: Beaver
Quick Summary
Longer, macro game. Both players fairly passive with Zerg only slightly more aggressive. Bad choice of engagement at the end resulted in loss. Numerous errors and ways in which the game could have been played better: macro, engagements, more harassment.
Build
FFE
What to Work On
Macro. Harassment. Late-Game Tech. I ultimately lost because of a poor engagement, not getting my units into the battle, not utilizing their abilities very well (Blink) and possibly because my composition wasn't very well balanced. Lots of stuff to fix and this is a good place for me to look back on the little things missed. They add up.
What I Liked
Scouted the Zergling-Roach push in response to my FFE and placed enough cannons in order to shove it away. Wonder if I put down too many cannons though.
Day Summary
1-2 isn't very fun, especially when one loss was because of a very dumb error. In the end though, still had fun, plenty of learning. Had some coaching from Zoogtar which helped me solidify concept for the FFE build, causing me to be more comfortable in it. He also mentioned small macro tips, things that I had initially dismissed as insignificant, but, since he suggested them insistently, I have to be honest with myself and put more effort into things like saturating probes correctly. The little stuff counts!
