Yeah you heard right, I offer coaching lessons in a pretty darn old game. But it is my favorite game and the one I’m most experienced in. iNcontroL's amazing blog entry made me thinking what I could contribute to competitive gaming. I love and play UT for years so why not help newcomers or those who want to give a more competitive UT (i. e. ClanBase OpenCups) a go. These coaching lessons are aimed at people who already have experience in UT, but never tried to play the game on a competitive level. If you want to break out of games on public servers and you're passionate and motivated to learn something beyond the basics you’re at the right spot.
Your requirements: You have a running copy of UT 99 v432 or GOTY v432. You got a working microphone and Teamspeak 3 to communicate. You’re motivated to learn something new. You’re passionate about UT 99. You’re communicative and able to receive and give constructive criticism.
What I have to offer: I can teach you proper movement, including a non-stop dodge walk. I can teach you how to position yourself in regards to map position and weapon of choice. I can teach you timing of items on spot or tricks to keep decent track of items. I can teach you how to tweak your unrealtournament.ini and user.ini to enhance your overall gaming performance. I can teach you the basic duel maps (i. e. Deck, Codex, Liandri) I can teach you and your teammates the basic team maps (Team Deathmatch 2v2 and 4v4) I can help your team with voice chat communication to improve your performance as a team. I can review your games and give constructive criticism.
A lesson will take 60 to 90 minutes and is free of charge. My goal is to promote UT 99 and get more people to try it. I can offer lessons from Monday through Thursday between 6 and 10 p. m. CET. Please keep in mind that I need a few days of planning before we can start a lesson. Feel free to contact me in this blog entry, via PM or by mail (berner dot markus at googlemail dot com).
When I was like 12 or 13 I used to play against the bots set to the hardest difficulty. I would get scopeless headshots over and over and over.
Then I installed the chaos UT mod on the other disc like a year or two after I started, and that changed how the snipers worked. I really liked the RPB sniper but I could never get as good at sniping as I was before haha.
Also the poison crossbow....damn that thing was hilarious. People puking green globs after being shot ^^ (then killing others with it lololol)
UT99 is the best of the series, I've played it soooo much :D
Flak Cannon was my favorite weapon, CTF my favorite game mode and that CTF map in the space with 2 towers each side linked by 2 paths with a +100 health in the middle was my favorite map :p
Never played too seriously though
edit: i think the map name was Face Worlds? edit 2: Facing Worlds + Show Spoiler +
Oh damn. In high school we were playing it all the time in LAN. It was so awesome.
Maps like Deck16 (or sth like that), Liandri, Morpheus (where the gravity was low) and the one posted by fabiano were our favorite to play.
I think I was OK with it but never really played competitively. The timing of objects appearing and players you just learn by playing AND paying attention to it. After w while you get a good feel for it... Same with learning to find your opponents based on sound and their shootings (extrapolating where they are going so you can ambush them in a best location for yourself). So good...
Rocket luncher for a distanced duels (simply shooting the ground near the guy so he is hit by the explosion) - that was my favorite by far, Flack Cannon for the close combat. Or that machine gun was pretty decent. I used to sometimes also run with the sniper rifle with aim on but with no zooming for the headshot. It was pretty effecting while playing weaker players.
Would be awesome if you considered teaching me UT2004, my brother is absolutely amazing at it and crushes face every time we play. I'm pretty sure he played the earlier ones, does the same sort of strategies apply in the later UT's?
I'd be interested in learning UT99, although at the moment my copy of UT99 runs through Steam and seems to have pretty significant input lag. If that can be fixed, I'm all for giving it a shot
I would have been interested like five years ago.Nowadays i don't really have time to play competitively ( and i was never really good at FPS anyway lol ).
Still bought a GOTY version last year just for the memories
Thank you for your C&C everyone. I know UT 99 is pretty old, but to see so many people still care about it and share some stories makes me happy.
@HypernovA That's sooo true. With the release of UT2003 they added the sounds to UT 99 as well, so it goes "Double Kill, Multi Kill, Mega Kill, Ultra Kill, Monster Kill, Ludicrous Kill, Wicked Sick" :D
@Boblion I didn't hear that song in years. My UT 99 runs without in-game music. Thanks for sharing this.
@darthfoley Yeah, you should give it a shot. That's playing one of 99's finest games.
@s.a.y See, a smile. That makes me smile as well. Thanks!
@BotD Get your UT 99 working and contact me via PM.
@Chanyman Yeah UT 2004 and 99 are kinda similar. Not entirely, but I could show you some stuff. The problem would be the map pool. I hardly know the 2004 maps. *cough*
@Lebesque Copies of UT are all over the web. Mostly on FTPs. And as it never had a serial and the originals are rarities, I think EPIC won't mind if you get UT 99 from the web.
@fabiano CTF-Face was one of my first big loves in life. It was so much von to play 8v8 on Face and outsmart your opponents.
@BurnedToast I play UT 99 mainly. Got a copy of 2004, but played it only on LAN with friends. UT 3 somewhere under my bed. I hate it tbh, but I could install it and play it as well of course. Though UT 3 is too different from 99 in my opinion. :/
@wherebugsgo True, UT Chaos was great fun. I enjoyed it when I didn't have access to the internet. Like in 2001. :D
Once again thank you for your interest. I hope somebody might wind up wanting to learn some competitive UT.
