What's the point? Why am I writing this at all? Because no matter how many build orders I read, no matter how many pro streams I watched, no matter how many replays I examined and scrutinized, and no matter how many Day[9] dailies I studied, learning to play Starcraft II at a semi-competent level was beyond my grasp for far too long.
The Path to Victory is going to be my journal of sorts, as I rise and fall in the ladder and become more experienced as a player. But the journal function is intended to be more of an accident than the purpose. The true purpose is to give something to this community that I haven't been able to find at all. A specific guide to help less skilled players improve on their play.
My goal is split in two: I want to provide a resource for super low level players to try to help them improve their play, and I want to create a sort of "how to successfully ladder" guide. As I move up through the ladder myself, I'll be summarizing the big ideas and the major concepts that I feel allowed me to succeed in the previous league.
In trying to get better, I was frequently frustrated by the overwhelming amount of information, suggestions, and tips that were completely useless to me. Either I would find a video or thread containing bland, useless, general suggestions like "Macro better" or "Work on you mechanics", or I'd find specific suggestions that rehashed lessons I'd already completely learned, like "Hit your larva injects" or "Don't get supply blocked". The other form this useless information could take is the infamous "Build Order". A set of specific instructions so utterly useless to the player developing his play that I occasionally ask myself why they exist at all.
Hopefully I'm not completely alone in this feeling of being adrift in a sea of uselessly redundant tips and guidelines, and if this sounds like how you feel, hopefully this series will have something to offer you!
Because I main Zerg, and I'm rather terrible with the other races, my posts will have the most to offer to low level Zerg players. The only reason I feel even slightly qualified to give advice like this is because I'm a very analytically minded person, and I've managed to improve my own play in a major way almost entirely on my own.
That's all I've got for now; I'll have a more substantive post tomorrow, but for now I just wanted to get the introduction out of the way. I'd love to hear opinions on whether or not this sounds like a good idea/stupid idea/interesting idea etc. Let me know what you all think! =D
