One Gateway, Two Gateway, Three Gateway, Four
One Gateway, two Gateway, three Gateway, four
Protoss cannot build anymore
'Cause he'll be 4-gating right at the front door.
He'll be warping zealots, stalkers, pylons a plenty
And if gas allows, even a sentry
To deny the swarm their much needed entry
Onto the creep-covered expansion's creep-covered hatch'ry.
Then to and fro the Zealots will go
Hacking and slashing down some slimy drones.
And from the back lines the Stalkers, with rage,
Will pew and pew those Zerg who engage
With their acid, claw, or tentacle medley
In order to melt or cut or cleave away deadly
Chunks and bits of clashing but weary
Protoss Zealot, Stalker, and Force Fielding Sentry.
The next poem I throw up here will be one not inspired by Day9. I mean, so long as these things bring smiles or discussion. Because poetry ought to do that. Or make people angry. Or make their heart beat faster. Or slower. It should change them in some way. Good poetry that is. Granted, a lot of what I write is then not good poetry by those same standards, but I'm alright with that. Anyhow, I think the best compliment you can give a poem or poet is that below the breath gasp that escapes on the heels of a "Wow, I never thought of it like that."
On the other hand, sometimes it's just fun to mess around with language and see what comes out. So, in a sense, all poetry is experimentation; much like the old definition of essay was "to attempt", a poem is an attempt to say something with rhythm and words, sometimes rhyme, that hasn't been said in that same way before.
Anyhow, my apologies for the long rant on poetry and what it means, or rather what I think it means, but I figure that this is a blog, my blog, dammit, so I'll use the sphere of poetry to shoot off tangents in to any dimension I damn well choose.
TL; DR: That is my opinion on poetry.
P.S. Have you any opinions you'd like to share? Poetry ought to create community, after all.
