In 6 days I'm going to visit my best friend in New York. I'm so excited!! I've been to New York many times, but this time it's going to be extra special. She's in the middle of planning her wedding and I'm thrilled for her and her family. And a tad bit jealous.

We've been friends since 4th grade, and I feel like she's always been "ahead" of me in life. I love her to death, but god damn have I always been jealous of her life/relationships/material shit. I grew up with a single mother who struggled to keep a roof over my head and food on the table. My best friend, however, always has an overabundance of everything. I'm totally use to this since we grew up together... But I *sometimes* wish my life was more like hers.

Anyway, she's (finally) turning 21 on the 14th and I'm really looking forward to going out and celebrating with her. We'll probably go to NYC first and then do a limo tour of some winery on long island the following day. Trashy first, classy later lol!

I never, ever, really go "out" drinking. So, I'm making this into a big deal. I've complained about work before on past blogs... I'm taking a well deserved three day break from all of that.

Oh, and I'm absolutely DREADING Black Friday. I'm opening the store at 3:30am. 3:30!!! I'm lucky if I'm ever in bed by 3am on most days...

No matter how I try to talk myself out of pulling an all-nighter, I just can't convince myself otherwise.

I can leave my house at 3am and get to work in time to open... So I need to be up by 1:45/2am to get ready and stuff. Impossible. Am I supposed to go to bed at 7pm on Thanksgiving?! There's no way. We won't even eat until around 9/10pm that night.

No one is even going to be shopping for children's clothing at 4am, they should be out buying cool electronic shit imo.

OR they should be smart and just not leave their homes and go shopping on Cyber Monday. O.O

Fuck that there is nothing I want so much to go shopping at 3:30am. Unless its bagels and I just smoked a lot of pot. Aside from the one exception to the rule- screw that. Have fun. I'll be sleeping.

Cyber Monday much better.

Sounds like a pretty sweet weekend.

there should be a wine one...

I have a mate who does amazingly well. Mainly cause he works his ass off. There is no way I would want to be like that. He's a regional manager of a market testing firm at 26 (STRESSSSS). I don't begrudge people their success, you come to realise that most people have to work for it in some manner. Yours may be coming soon.

As for shopping at 3am, well they invented the internet for a reason. Porn, but that has nothing to do with this topic. What the hell is so important that you would buy it at 3am?

I'm with you probe, the only thing that should be bought at that time is food. Preferably, salty, spicy, sweet delicious snacks. Baked is better, both the consumer and the consumed.

Interwebz soo much better. I LOVE shopping online! It's addicting. I'm going to buy some delish electronics on Cyber Monday (I srsly don't even know what I want. I really don't need anything/shouldn't spend money anyway). Maybe I'll just buy clothes. I don't know.

I'm going to be forced to deal with all the lame old school Black Friday shoppers because a manager has to open the store that morning.

I will be supplying my employees throughout that morning/day/night with lots of baked treats and goodies! I like to drink and relax the night of thanksgiving (any paid holidays I like to drink and walk around the house letting everyone know I'm getting paid to have a beer, puts me in a joyful mood) but now I can't because I'll be going to work so damn early.

Oh yeah, you're Canadian.

Although, I have heard that retailers there have similar sales on the same day.

It's the biggest shopping day of the year and marks the start of the holiday shopping season. People get trampled at walmart and shit. PEOPLE DIE on Black Friday lol.

I feel like the best deals are offered online for Cyber Monday though.

I'm American, I mean why is there massive sales on Black Friday? Purely as a bookmark for when to start shopping? Is it similar to Boxing Day?

Wtf is Cyber Monday?

I just assumed you were Canadian because you lived in Canada lol. And you gush about Montreal 24/7. MYBAD.

You acted like you had no clue what Black Friday was, haha. Cyber Monday is when the internet has its own "Black Friday." You can get a lot of good deals on anything from electronics to clothing and other stuff online. Big name retailers will start advertising them on their websites soon.

I don't know the history of Black Friday. I know that retailers capitalize on this fake holiday and offer tons of discounts for one day only (or just a few hours in the early AM) and that's why it's such a big deal now. And that's why I'm going to have a line wrapped around to the back of my store. -_-

What the hell is boxing day, does it have to do with fighting and shopping?

Yeah, cause I don't shop, so I'm not aware of these consumer-culture trends :B So in reality, it's not due to my orientation but rather due to my lack of knowledge in that specific subculture bla bla bla bla.

Hm, will have to be on the lookout then :B

I assume Boxing Day is when everyone reboxes all their shit and gets it returned, thus a lot of store credit and thus sales to attract those people to repurchase from the store and/or get rid of surplus of inventory.

Shrug, wild wild guess in the dark.

I hate store credit. And I'm drowning in inventory right now. DROWNING. It's bad.

Under our family of brands, Crazy 8 is the only one in Canada... It's weird. They added Canadian prices and changed some of the tags to include French. Like, the French is bigger than the English on some items. It's strange!

If you mean the font is bigger, it's by law in Quebec. The font of the English name must be significantly smaller than the french writing.

That's really interesting. I just did some shipment earlier tonight with a bunch of our new 2 piece packaged Christmas pj's and it just... looks so weird! I have never seen that before, in ANY retail store here. My associate tonight was like "wtf language is this" (lol she's not the brightest)?! And customers tend to be really dumb, so they're pretty much ignoring the small english font and asking me questions about which ones are unisex/boy/girl. -_-

For those that wish to know, Boxing day is actually very old. According to Wiki-everything-you-need-to-know-and-so-much-you-don't

"The exact etymology of the term "boxing" is unclear and there are several competing theories, none of which is definitive.[3] The tradition has long included giving money and other gifts to those who were needy and in service positions. The European tradition has been dated to the Middle Ages, but the exact origin is unknown and there are some claims that it goes back to the late Roman/early Christian era; metal boxes placed outside churches were used to collect special offerings tied to the Feast of Saint Stephen.[4]
In the UK, it was a custom for tradesmen to collect "Christmas boxes" of money or presents on the first weekday after Christmas as thanks for good service throughout the year.[5] This is mentioned in Samuel Pepys' diary entry for 19 December 1663;[6] This custom is linked to an older English tradition: in exchange for ensuring that wealthy landowners' Christmases ran smoothly, their servants were allowed to take the 26th off to visit their families. The employers gave each servant a box containing gifts and bonuses (and sometimes leftover food)."

It started as a charity event. In oz it has morphed into an obscene spectacle of people trying to buy the leftover stock at bargain prices. Essentially stores sell the stuff they have left at below cost, so that in the new year they get new stuff.

Part of me feels like no sentence should ever start with "People die" and end with "lol."

Have fun anyway. ^_^
