On October the 20th 2005, Liquid´Meat created the greatest thread in Teamliquid history...

The Automated Ban List

I believe, needs no introduction. But i'm sure there are some members that are not aware of it's existence and purpose, though, so to preface this, here is a very brief explanation:

Whenever a mod/banling bans somebody, the Automated Ban List thread (that can be found in the close threads section) is updated with a post that reads like this:

[username here] was just temp banned for 2 days by [mod/banling].

That account was created on 2009-10-06 10:40:29 and had 4058 posts.

Reason: [reason here].

It's obvious why this brings entertainment to the masses of TL. For every ban is normally accompanied by a most clever of reasons. Unless they're PBU's. Or advertisement accounts. Then it's just boring.

the automated ban list is even awesome enough so that it spawned a thread intended to discuss and lol at the freshest, juiciest bans.

So, now that you know what on earth i'm talking about, let us delve into the history of the Automated Ban List...

2005-2007, Pre-reason
Liquid´Meat, co-founder of TeamLiquid, created a thread entitled "Automated Ban List", with the following message as the OP:

As this quote might make you assume, at first the Automated Ban List (hereby referred to as the ABL) was open for all users to post in.

What came as a consequence of this (spoiler: it got cluttered and annoying) we will get back to later. For now:

Back in 2005 when the list was introduced, there were no reasons that needed to be given for each individual ban. The mods would however, often make a separate post in the ABL explaining the ban, as such:

NiR was just banned by Liquid`Meat.

That account was created on 2005-10-25 23:55:34 and had 1 posts.

Where was I? Ah yes, after only 3 pages Meat decided there was no point in having this thread out in the open, and closed it so that only mods were allowed to speak/discuss bans. You have to understand; back then, punishments were generally less lenient. There were no 2-day bans, and with ruthless mods such as Liquid`Drone, Rekrul and ToKoreaWithLove, well...

Susan Reader was just banned by ToKoreaWithLove.

That account was created on 2006-02-16 19:46:13 and had 57 posts.

Azerus was just banned by ToKoreaWithLove.

That account was created on 2006-03-15 20:50:29 and had 5 posts.

BigshoT was just banned by Rekrul.

That account was created on 2005-07-16 11:48:56 and had 171 posts.

RambleOn was just banned by Rekrul.

That account was created on 2005-11-19 09:17:28 and had 1 posts.

Bill Gates was just banned by Twisted.

That account was created on 2005-11-28 10:59:48 and had 31 posts.

OverTheUnder was just banned by mensrea.

That account was created on 2004-11-08 19:04:25 and had 445 posts.

There were generally a LOT more permanent bans than there were temporary ones, to put it simply

CharlieMurphy was just Temp banned for 1 week by Manifesto7.

That account was created on 2006-03-21 23:37:30 and had 224 posts.

There are very likely a lot more interested bans from this period, but goddamnit, i'm too lazy to go through another 40 odd pages of ban list.

2007-Present: The Age of Reason (literally)

From here on, mods started posting and discussing more in the ABL. In the end, it led to the innovation that made the ABL the watering hole of entertainment it is today. The egg had cracked, and poking innocently out of the cracked top was... Saro?

Saros.Tester was just banned by Saro.

That account was created on 2005-03-20 23:12:09 and had 7 posts.

Reason: Die Noobie!

Quickly followed by

ETTs.tester was just banned by EvilTeletubby.

That account was created on 2007-09-07 16:39:08 and had 0 posts.

And so we entered the Age Of Reason... Here we have some of the not only most interesting, but utterly hilarious bans in TL history. What is also notable is that the age of pre-reason was 63 pages long.

The age of reason, going from 2007 to the present, has over 940 pages of bans. That's what we call SC2 traffic.

Do you know what that also means? That means i'm far too lazy to go through all of that! I have done it in the past, but I don't have the most excellent of memories, so here I present to you:

Now, on to another interesting part of TeamLiquid's history of bans. A particular fellow by the name of CharlieMurphy. Yes, he is in fact the single user who has the most bans on TeamLiquid (making tons of accounts doesn't count), sitting at about 21-23 bans across his two known accounts. I was really looking forward to this.
I honestly had no idea who tdot or CharlieMurphy were, and it's really weird seeing the people we know and love as admins and mods today getting banned left and right.

Right! I forgot to mention his alt account. I don't see him around too often, but it seems he's posting better yeah. He does already have a 90 day and a 30 day I believe on SpoR though, but I assume that's in part because of his previous accounts sins.

I made a mention at the end! But I was tired as shit (doing this all in one evening) from tracking down (that is, essentially hundreds of ABL pages) all those Tdot accounts

I tried searching around for info on gg.nore, but honestly in the end I was too lazy. And I don't want to make blind-rawr anymore mad by giving that "thrash any publicity" ;D

Incontrol was a very very active poster on TL back in BW; and he stepped out of line on occasion. Now that he's a more important figure and personality within the community, that rarely happens.

Darkdeath3: I've asked that myself, in one of his early bans kennigit said the next one was perm. I think if one single mod handled all his trash then he would be permed long ago.

ShoCkeyy: IdrA was the most-banned user until an update in september this year, where an additional ban on Murphy's SpoR account let him take the lead. I guess I could include IdrA's bans at some point?

PraeTor: IdrA is very close, at about 21 bans compared to Charlie's 22/23 (can't quite remember). TI and GG.NoRe were never temped, well, GG.nore probably was at one point, but after that it got crazy with all his alt accounts.

TI never got any temps either, it was all perms. And as I said, PBU's who make a ton of accounts I don't count as much

Nah, IdrA can't even compare with most of the people mentioned by marttorn. IdrA simply hasn't had the number of temps that CharlieMurphy got, or the innumerable temps of TI and GG.NoRe.

I think you actually missed most of the tdot bans. There are lots of accounts with names like "(mod names here) are ballers", 4 word names that start with t, d, o, and t, and stuff like "GotDota".

Yes, I suspected as much. I was going by what I could find in the ban list searching from page 200 and backwards. I still think it gives an idea about his obsessive account-making though
