It's definitely cheese, since that's what cheese is defined as. I don't know why that matters though.

cheese is the worst word ever. Everything gets called cheese and its quite annoying. Just because its aggressive doesn't mean its cheese. Just because there is a timed rush doesnt mean its cheese. And cheese is not standard play at pro-level.
bah. Theres just so much wrong. TT
Definition for cheese Cheese most often refers to an unexpected strategy that relies in large parts on lack of information and/or psychological impact on the opponent.

The way I see it, cheese is a 1-base all-in attack based on little to no scouting information beyond possibly location.
Anything other than that I see as timing attacks, harassment, aggression, or just attacks, and I see no reason to get angry at other people for these. They are just standard play as far as I'm concerned, everyone should expect at least some variation of one of these in pretty much every game.
Frequent cheeses can be frustrating, but I'm usually more annoyed at myself for not being able to defend them (which, should be near 100% with good scouting) than the person doing the cheese (unless they are just a BM asshole, which many cheesers are).

The never ending debate of the word cheese. Cheese is a good condiment. Cheese is good especially if pastured well. But sometimes it causes people to shit uncontrollably because some of then are intolerant to it.

as a protoss player i hate the word cheese and it gets throw around way too much ... i find on the ladder if i make a dark templar i get called cheesy. If i make a void ray i get called cheesy. If i make anything out of the stargate i get called cheesy. If i make cannons anywhere on the map i get called cheesy. If i do a small "poke" attack before the 10 minute mark i get called cheesy. The only time i dont get called cheesey is when i make a colossus deathball and then i get called a "no skill 1-a noob".
But all i can say to you is just ignore it! Some of these players just get frustrated when they lose and make comments like that when they dont mean it. Play however you want to personally i only think something is "cheese" if there is no planned followup or there is no economically sound way to continue the game if it does not work. Dont worry about all the grumpy folks just accept each time you won you did that, You played better then your opponant. Also if you lost figure out why you lost and work on that. Every time ive lost a game ive re-watched the replay and seen that i could have played better at multiple points in the game. I dont think ive reached a point (or will ever) where i can say "i couldnt have played better".
Essentially, Dont worry about it.

Archybaldie, thank you. You perfectly understood me.

Just do it, and ignore people who rage at you because they can't handle cheese. I go for cheesy builds all the time because I feel it's more fun, and since SC2 is a game (like love), just enjoy yourself.

Play to win - some maps lend themselves to 1 or 2 base timing attacks, "cheesy" strats, or whatever, and some don't nearly as much. Knowing how to do really aggressive cheesy builds like proxy 11/11 rax tvz is not only useful, but nutritious and delicious.

People are frustrated by aggressive pushes/rushes because it feels like the cheeser has no real skill in macroing compared to them. Really though, actual cheesers are godawful at the game because they don't know how to follow up a failed rush because they got no macro. Cheesers with good macro are terrifying - Combatex is a good example.
Just do whatever you are doing man. I love getting cheesed because it's like autowin for me^^.

Not this discussion again. Debating semantics is always silly in my mind because the meaning of any communication (words included) is relative to how its understood by the audience.
I think the main reason that cheese is so frustrating is that there are people who just cheese every single game and farm their way up to a high level without ever really demonstrating superior skill or ability. So the first thought when someone cheeses you on the ladder is that "this guy must do this all the time".
Also while cheesing might be fun sometimes, being cheesed is often just frustrating and not fun. since we usually play to have fun it can be upsetting to be cheesed.

Sure it exists but cheesing doesn't render you a terrible person, sure it wont help you actually get good at the game but ultimately if you decide you wanna cheese every game go ahead.
