I'm pretty new to Starcraft. And by "pretty new," I mean maybe a month into it. I'm not new to gaming, though I'm mostly a point & click adventure gamer and a console FPS gamer. Yes, I know. No one likes either of those types of gamers.
In any event, I wasn't sure what to expect coming into the TL environment. The SCII community as a whole has an excellent reputation, so I had hopes, but not expectations. I was prompted by the idea from Day9's videos (when am I not) - "start a blog on TL!" So I did. I'm not much for chronicling my adventures, mostly out of laziness, but I figured, sure.
On just about every other game forum/mode of communication, competing usually involves slurs and swearing at each other, along with a general desire to jerk the other person around so that they lose. Maybe I'm just new to RTS, but the courtesy of "gl hf" and "gg" really are unprecedented to me. Manner? I love it.
Sure, there are the BMers. My second placement match ever, the response I got to "gl hf" was "no, I don't need luck, ur gay." But that doesn't outshine the intense matches where I've laughed with players where I've had terrible micro, or the compliments from people who I've won against.
I'm brand new, and not a single person (thus far) who knows this fact has told me to give up, or that I suck, or otherwise. In fact, I've gotten offers of help, suggestions for the future, and well wishes. It's classy. I dig it.
I get the feeling that I'm not saying anything new - in fact, just based on this being on the internet, I'm sure it's not new. But that doesn't mean I appreciate it any less. It's not what I'm used to.
glad youre enjoying it, but lets wait one month (or two) more before you judge us. i was getting really really frustrated at the community when i was on the edge of being bad and actually being able to play the game at a decent level :D
You'll run into just as many of the random internet tools on SC2 as well, especially as the game continues to grow in popularity. The majority of the community is pretty damn sweet. Don't let the occasional uncool dudes get you down. Welcome and enjoy your stay

Lol same. I was like WTF?
GM people are easy to come by here on TL. Feel free to ask anyone here for help or tips.
Definitely, especially compared to the likes of the CoD crowd I remember I had a friend who made a habit of saying "good luck everybody!" during the loading screens for matches (over a mic ofc, and on Xbox Live), and almost always someone would say something like "fuck you faggot" or "yeah accept I don't need luck because imma rape you"; it was sad, but hilarious nonetheless.
Point and Click games are AWESOME games like simon the sorcerer and indiana jones and the fate of atlantas <3 not so into the object finder ones but they usually have a good story to go with them
My sister beats me at PS3 cod4, so I detest console fps still
See? This is what I mean. You guys are awesome. And shockingly responsive. I think I'm pretty boring, but with as new as I am to the scene, I'm liking the process of chronicling getting into it. All of my other hobbies (she said as if she had so many) are pretty established, and sort of boring to talk about. And they don't have nearly as intense of a community as SC2 does.
How's the quest for top 5 going?
So far? Shaky. I think when I made my post on Monday, I was 12th. I've wavered between 9th and 10th since then - got to 8th once, but my bonus pool is dead, so I dropped right back. Kind of frustrating, but they're losses I totally deserved, haha.
Yeah but the SC2 community is so bogged down in pointless drama at times.
Don't tell anyone, but I'm not really into the sports scene at all - pro or otherwise. :x I enjoy watching the pros, but I have no investment in who wins or loses; I enjoy watching for strats and commentary alone, so when there's drama over teams, etc, it doesn't bug me too much.

Fate of Atlantis is actually one of my favorite point and clicks, period. It's up there with Curse of Monkey Island and the Quest for Glory games.
Some of the SC2 community is friendly, you can find those in Blogs, TL community usually.
However when you venture into the pits that is SC2 LR threads, strategy section or General discussion threads regarding politics, economy,or ethnicity then abandon all hope ye who enter.
Welcome to the community ^^ you will learn a lot very fast about the game and will suprise yourself with how great it really is at times. GL HF --Wesley
