i've been encountering a lot of baneling attacks, either 1 base or 2 base, on ladder lately. i just had an idea pop into my head about one way to possibly stop it, let me know what you think.
it revolves around using either 1 or 2 marauders to block the ramp on hold position, with a simple wall off behind it. then any marines are positioned behind the wall to shoot down any encroaching zerglings.
yellow = buildings, red = marauders, pink = marines
my hope for this is that the banelings will be blocked by the marauders, and be forced to detonate on them doing very little damage, while the marines can still protect the marauders from the lings.
i find building a double layer wall, or a high HP wall can be hard to do on short notice, and also can mess up building placement for later on. maybe this would work? i want to try it but ideally i'd like to see if it's been done before and whether you think it would be effective.
also, any tips on defending early banes without rushing to siege tech would also help, especially if you think this theory i posted wouldn't work :D

Just go fast hellions.
This stops baneling busts because your hellions come out just in time. You only need to kill two banelings to make the bust inefficient and you take a commanding lead.
Another good way to keep one marine on the ramp to soak up the the baneling or two if you can.
If you have the ability, keep them all on the ramp and just stutter step. In most amateur baneling busts, the lings will be in the back, waiting for the bust before moving in instead of doing it like a curtain (lings soaking damage at the ramp and pulling back just as the banelings move in).

yes but as terran, are you going to open fact first? or tech lab on rax? the boxer build right now asks for a reaper, so i guess you could use that for marauders...
Just depends on the build you are going for. Maybe you should put this in the SC2 Strat section.

2 Marauders early game costs a lot of money. Especially in builds like mine where Day9 says it is "lean". I barely have gas to make 1 tank at a time, and I would lose a lot of minerals getting a second geiser. Unless you are going MMM, and then I wish you luck.

Just lay two bunkers. Most all ins from other races can be twarted by having two bunkers.

The theory itself is a good idea, but getting the marauders is a different story. If you know some baneling bust is coming, just bunker up and losing a few supply depots will hurt you far less than the investment of the zerg.

Clever title
Generally I'm low level player, so in TvZ I can't be bothered to slow push with tanks and crap. Vs Banelings I just move out with MM and select all my marines, run like hell. Marauders soak up a lot of baneling hits.

That would imply that the zerg does not micro. I think any reasonable Zerg will micro their banelings to hit your wall, at which point they ignore your marine anyways. Also when I bust, I use lings right away to soak up hellion/rine damage

Selecting your units to attack a structure isn't microing.
I just talked about the curtains that a lot of Zergs dont do.

if you're going MMM build, marauders on the ramp are a great way to repel a bane bust.... if you're going for tech play the extra resources spent on marauders will put you behind.
