As the title says I'm off to Tokyo after work tonight. I'm currently nervous as hell (I've only visited Fukuoka before a couple of times.) and I hate flying (only really take off, but it's kind of scary anyway.)
I'll be staying in Asakusa (at a hostel because I'm cheap as all hell.) and then trundling off to Ikebukuro to meet some fellow english teacher friends, and hit Namja Town to sample the Prince of Tennis menu items as well as do some shopping. In the evening we're going to a live cinema viewing of Tenimyu (Prince of Tennis musical.) Sunday is a free day to hit Akihabara's shops :D
I'll hopefully be going again with my good pal Vek in December. So any suggestions for places to visit then are much appreciated.
I should have some photos to share upon my return. I'll add them to the blog once they're ready. I think the trip should take my mind off of the horror of turning twenty seven >.<

lol sounds you're staying at the K's house hostel. Also you should sign up for AKB48 live perf tickets, I forgot to register for them and didn't get to see them in Akiba last time I went over D:
If you go to Fukuoka again, check out Canal City! If you are in Tokyo, go to Ueno, go to Ueno Park near/at the train station, then hit the Warrior Celt right next to it for a few drinks in the evening! Other than that, the place is huge, I don't think it will be hard to find anything of interest if you look even a little
For shopping, don't forget any of the big figure locations. Places like animate, toranoana, and the like.

Shibuya cafe PARCO is branded as Kalafina café until 11.26, due to the release of Kalafina's third album. Plus an exhibit + merchandize. I am biased as Kalafina is my favorite JPop group right now
i did a plane flight today and even though im not scared of flying at all i kept looking out the window to check he wasnt about to crash into the ground
asakusa-bashi is pretty fun pretty close to where you are too.
akihabara is okay, but it starts all looking the same. Be careful walking too far away from the strip (although it is tokyo, so it's still pretty safe). Lots of maid cafe's and other...unsavory places there.
Big Echo karaoke at Gotanda station area. You know you wanna~
I stayed at a hostel at Chidoricho when I was there, so Gotanda was pretty much my connecting link to rest of Tokyo. Spent a lot of evenings at the karaoke there.
I don't understand why people hate flying. It makes me sad when the person with the window seat closes the blinds (ok, I've only flown once in memory, but it annoyed me). You get to see the ground zoom away! And see what clouds look like when you're beside them... it's cool :o Okay, to say I don't understand why people hate flying is a lie, but I just wanted to say that I think it's an awesome opportunity to see things from above and people who close blinds are jerks for wasting it. Even a little kid wasn't looking out their window... too distracted by some cartoon.. stupid kids..
Heh, it's weird about the taking off thing - after many years of flying i'm still as excited as the little kids who have to be restrained by their parents as they press their faces against the windows of the aircraft. It's like a roller coaster, or a really fast car :D

Yep, it's been going for ages now in different forms, but it:s recently reprised for a second season and I'm heading for a live viewing (in a cinema not the venue) tonight. There are also musicals for Bleach, Phoenix Wright, Kuroshitsuji and Air Gear :D

I'm at Khaosan Ninja right now (Since I had a good experience with their place in Fukuoka.) It's pretty decent altho I wish I had a single room like last time!

I definitely want to do that when I come back with Vek in December. I'm more of a fan since Flying Get came out.

I'm not really scared of the flying aspect, but take off really frightens me. I'm fine with landing though. It was a relief to at least have tvs in the back of the seats to take my mind off of it this time. My Mum loves flying though. She's a holiday junkie.

Thanks for the advice. I'm a pretty scary girl *nearly six foot and not skinny. So I can handle myself, but I'll keep that in mind.

My mum is definitely of the same mind as you. She loves sitting there for hours just checking out the view and chilling out. I'm only really scared because of my emetophobia. It makes take off really rough for me, and I get stressed out. I did enjoy the view on the way to Korea though. I had a loooooot of time to admire it. I also love watching the view change as you come in to land.
Yeah, they're called Rock Musicals and there are quite a lot of them. They also just started up again with another production in the last couple of months. My friend went to see it live, and apparently the singing was uniformly excellent. I've only seen one of them myself, but you can download most of them online. My favorite is still Kuromyu 2. It's got an opera singer, amazing costumes, gorgeous songs, one of my favorite actors in sexy lingerie, and a nutty pervert count singing rock ballads to girls in bloomers.
