I'm losing a ridiculous amount of games against players I should be beating - to timing attacks, to getting outmacroed, to not scouting, to not reacting to what I scout properly. In my last game, I got shut down from scouting by a 1basing toss, guessed he was going void rays, and threw down some spore crawlers and an extra queen. One of the spore crawlers saw an observer - but I neglected to cancel the others, and when his immortal timing push hit a minute later, I wasn't ready for it and died. Even the games I win are sloppy and make me feel bleh - I haven't had an easy roflstomp victory once today, and I've played three golds (though thankfully none were in ladder, and I beat them all).
I know I'm better than this, but jesus, it would be nice to have some more complete builds charted out (for ZvP especially) so I can stop worrying about what I'm doing long enough to worry about my execution. Losing games doesn't bother me, but losing a bunch in a row is getting frustrating and making me want to either not play at all or just mass games over and over again without thinking about them - neither of which is helpful.
I'm going off to watch my replays. If anyone has any suggestions, or sources for more complete build orders, or anything like that, I am all ears.

Sorry to be blunt: 1.) accept that you are not better than this.

Fair enough. I want to be better than this.

If you are consistently losing you are being outplayed and therefore deserve it, if you can accept that you are a lacking player compared to your own standard you can move forward.
|
Honestly just take a break, give yourself some kind of limit like 4 losses in a row. If you hit that just stop playing completely, do something else and come back to sc2 a few hours later or even the next day.
From my experience the break just gives you a chance to clear your head, if your playing while being frustrated it really drops your general level of play.

Just completely destroyed a ZvT, but my opponent was probably pretty bad, given the losing spree.
Taking a food break, and we'll see how I do. Feeling more confident and settled now, and that'll go a long way.

I want to be better than this. That's a start :-). Learn one good build per matchup (dont have a link right now, see liquipedia or strategy forum) and do it again and again while learning scouting patterns etc. A good crisp build (well executed) will easily bring you into diamond. Train you macro (search for threads).

Destroyed a ZvP against decent opposition. Feeling a lot better - let's see how long my win streak lasts!

TBH with you CaptainPlatypus I think that everyone who plays this game has periods of slumps, but I think that White-Ra really put it into perspective for me. If you look at any player who is considered to be at the pinnacle of skill, they still lose games. This game requires a tremendous level of skill to do all of the little things right. (Constantly make workers, scout, respond accordingly...etc) I think that the best thing that you can do is just to keep playing games.
If you get mad, take a small break, then come back and watch the replay and try and identify why you lost. Play games to improve on the little things, and the wins will come.

If you use that retarded mentality, you might aswell pack your bags and stop playing. It's negative and will not get you anywhere up higher.

YOU WANT A MEGASLUMP?
Once I lost 14 games in a row.
I was having a bad week ;_;

Doing fine again now. I think I was just getting matched against opponents I wasn't ready for, frankly. Maintaining a 60%+ winrate basically the whole time you've played starcraft apparently has its downsides. But I seem to have been adjusted back against fellow baddies, and I'm back to winning most of my games and knowing exactly why I lost right away.
I seriously do need to work on my basics, though.

I always know why I lost. One of three reasons. A: Bad scouting B: Shit Mechanics C: I'm Bronze, and that makes A and B much much worse, since not scouting or reacting well to dumb Bronze shit like mass voids will always get you killed.
The best way for me to get out of a slump is to play a couple rounds of Killing Floor, solo. (Mind you, my slumps are ~2 games in a row lost, I don't play often.) Killing a bunch of zombies effortlessly puts me back in the right frame of mind.

I play SS in team games, but solo commando is a lot of fucking fun, especially on Farm where you can maneuver. Solo SS is well known to be cheating - but after losing to mass void rays, that might be just what you need.

When you say SS are you saying SharpShooter or Support Specialist? They're both pretty OP solo.
Commando is definitely awesome on farm. I think my favorite to chill though is Bedlam with some dance and electronica and techno going, as Support. Amazingly calming. I don't suggest doing that particular lineup under the influence of anything whatsoever though.

Support Specialist. Sharpshooter I always just say "sharpie" lol. Fuckers were imba for too long.
Support with techno on bedlam would be fun. I'll have to try that. :D

It's great for getting your brain and reflexes loosened up to let you focus again. It's like stretching your gaming "muscles". The bad reactions after a bunch of losses are the mental and reflex version of a cramp, so you stretch by using them differently, and can get moving again.
Oh, and if you decide to ignore my advice about trying that under the influence, at least do it on a bigscreen tv, that's how I found out how bad of an idea that was.

It's NOT: accept that you CAN'T get better than this......
This will only take you down if you don't believe in yourself. But believing alone won't help. Only hard work will.
