Well, I'm off to Austria for my retreat with my father's family. If you don't know who I am then you're one of these new posters who signed on for Starcraft 2. And I've got to tell you ... I feel slightly envious of you. You never had to endure the that other glowing side of affection which we call Brood War.
Can I tell you a story before I leave?
There was a twelve year old boy in middle school who had no idea what Starcraft was ... what does that mean? Do we craft stars? If we do, from what material do we craft them? I had no idea ... but I soon found out as I searched around the internet and discovered that Starcraft was a phenomenon in Korea. I remember reading my first article about SC in Korea which was poorly translated from the Han Kook Il-Bo and archived from a year prior, the article about the 1999 PKO (Progamer Korea Open) which was conquered by a certain Choi Jin Woo who was then scouted by a certain Jung Soo Young who was a captain of a certain programing team which was called the Raptors which is what they were called before his wife secured sponsorship from her employer which was a serious airline in Korea from which they then secured sponsorship from KTF, largest telecommunications company in Korea, and all the while ... in that very sentence I typed ... the Starleague, the OnGameNet Starleague ...
Did you notice when the OSL was first born, the intro was computer generated Starcraft graphics with video game music? And then did you notice when the intro switched to images of the actual progamers with actual record-industry music? In 2003? Remember that? If that never happened, you Starcraft II babies wouldn't be here right now. I sincerely doubt it with every fiber of my being. But that twelve year old idiot grew into this twenty three year old man who did his best to convey the passion, sacrifice, and tears behind this game called Starcraft: Broodwar ... and I wrote about a few of the top BW players ... I won't be around to post much since I'll be gone abroad, but I'm leaving this here for two reasons:
1) I want SCII kids to appreciate BW, it would make my heart and conscious so happy
and
2) I'm drunk because I'm scared of flying on planes
Good luck everyone and I'll be back before you know it
Love you all
