I'm high on life right now. ♥ (and coke (as in coca cola))
Last friday was the first day in school, the introductory day. No class, just a day to allow you to familiarize with the school, what will happen the following weeks, how stuff works, what to do as a new student etc. The normal stuff. What was different from the other two introductory days I've been to in past colleges was my facial expression - I had a big grin across my face the entire day. :D
I don't know if I can correctly describe the entire day, but I'll go through some of the things about that friday:
- Most of my teachers are gamers, and they talk passionately about them. - Wearing my "I ♥ SC2" t-shirt I got at DHI, it didn't take long before I had accepted my first challenger in sc2. - Meeting awesome gamers (and likely new long-time friends). - One club + Show Spoiler +(for swedes; is that a good translation for "sektion"?) is entirely dedicated to basically play games, watch movies and have a good time. They're also having sc2 LAN's once in a while. I'm joining that club. - One of my childhood friends that grew up in the same neighborhood as me and I haven't seen in years is in my class. This has to be one of the best random encounters of my life.
All in all, a pretty good day to say the least.
Cue weekend: MLG is on all weekend (awesome games + free silver membership + new 32" TV = so good... QwQ), movie night at a friend's place that I came home from at 7 the following morning, randomly discovering that our first homework is to play a game and review it.
"Wait. Did I read that right? We're going to play a game and review it? As homework?" With me being as sick of math and other normal homework as I am, I must admit that I got a few small tears of joy upon reading that.
After a good night of the sheer enjoyment that was championship Sunday, I woke up to go to my first lecture in "Introduction to Game Development". It was good - though a lot of time was wasted on the teacher sidetracking. That aside, we did learn some about the history of games, and got explained in detail what we will do this month: Play and review a game + Show Spoiler +(BERG, a text-game in Swedish. I would link it, but I'm unsure if I'm allowed to due to copyright. :/) , create a basic prototype of a game with the help of "Multimedia Fusion" and, of course, have an exam. Seems pretty basic, and hopefully the extracurricular activities will be as awesome as they seem to be.
Lastly, big shoutout to the fellow new SU students here on TL, I know you're out there (I've seen some of you in the Swedish BarCraft thread!)! :D Grab a hold of me if you ever see me in the hallway (big guy with black jeans and a black laptopbag with a sc2-pin on it) and challenge me to a game of sc2 or whatever! :D TL-ers UNITE!
That's it for this day, another update will follow as anything worth mentioning happens! Also, I will upload the game prototype when it's done so you can try it out if you like. I think you might have to have the software we're using to play it, but you're a bright bunch so I'm sure you can find a way around that problem if you want to. ♥
Good night!
---
In other news, I'm really looking forward to the FIRST BARCRAFT IN STOCKHOLM that will be happening on September 17th when DH Valencia is on! If you're in Stockholm then, be sure to turn up so that more of those events can happen in the future!
+ Show Spoiler +Bonus music! :D And bonus awesome portal fan video

Isn't it like 5% writing ? maybe 10-15% upkeep and 80-85% debugging ? Atleast that's how I've experienced it so far past summer (self study)

Hehe, thanks for the warning/advice, I'm well aware. Going to be studying and learning the crap out of the programming classes I'm taking later on, and then some. All to try to learn to be the best programmer I can be.

I think you're going to the same school reading the same thing as my friend and project partner. What school are you reading at?

Not 100% sure though, and I can't really get a hold of him right now either so I can't check. But if that is the only corriculum about game programming in Kista, I know it's that one.
If I visit him and find someone wearing a SC2 related shirt, I'll make sure to say hello.
