Hell yeah! Right on target, too - it was my hope that I'd get promoted to gold after about a week of play, and it happened after 5 days.
I've been playing mainly gold players for about 2 days, though, so I'm not too worried about the bump-up, because I've been winning most of my games against them. Still, I'm curious - is there a big difference between the low end of gold play and the high end? Is there a big difference between gold and platinum? What should I look out for? What do I not have to worry about?
Why am I so excited?! I LOVE THIS GAME!
Edit: Holy shit. Not only was I promoted, I was promoted into the top 8 of my division.
Let's hope that means plat in another week!

As a player that has gone from bronze to platinum, I know plenty about promotions. First of all, don't be too excited about being in the top 8 right away, as that is just because you have a lot of points from winning so much in silver. Also, you've probably been playing mid to low level gold players, so beating them means you belong where you are. There is a difference between bottom gold and top gold, but its not huge.
You'll probably go on a bit of a losing skid when you first start in the new league, I have in my experience at least, but don't be discouraged! You are just getting used to the new level of play, and start winning again soon.
Anyway, gl to you and heres to plat soon!

Totally agree with MrDonkey above as a fellow Bronze to Plat here there is a big difference between mid gold to mid Plat. Personally I went on a huge losing streak when i first get into any new league just because of the difference but it generally levels our after a day or so. Anyways your on a good track keep it up like this and you should be in Plat in no time. Rooting for ya man get to plat in a few more weeks =]

I had the same issue when I got promoted to gold last season. I had a bad lost streak (I had another this season maybe because of merger?).
Then you get to the top but its important to rmemeber that some people are at the bottom because they dont play enough but youd be surprised how good some are.
The ranks doesnt mean much and most people get points using the bonus pools.

Yeah I lose to people who are ranked like 40th in their division all the time just because they play like 4 1v1's a week but are decent just because of past RTS experience etc.

So far I've been doing worse, but I'm still 2-1 in my gold matches so far - I've gotten various flavors of cheesed all three times, all ZvT. Bunker rush with 3 bunkers, one in the fog beyond ovie vision (lost that one, lesson learned: patrol ovie instead of holding over hatch), proxy planetary fortress at my 3rd (that game lasted EMBARRASSINGLY long), mass reaper into mass banshee/marine (only won thanks to a ninja 3rd)
I feel like I'm actually playing worse than before, which means I need to work on my crisis management - if I get left alone to macro I feel pretty confident, but when I get any kind of harass beyond basic hellions-at-the-door or a few early lings, let alone an early push, it throws my game way off. I'm pretty sure my minerals hit 3k during both the games I won - though to be fair, I was down to a single hatch for a while in the second one.
Gotta work on that, and I'm kind of worried that macro games will stop being easy wins now, but I'm glad I moved up. I wasn't really being challenged to improve any more at silver, and that's definitely turned around, at least for 3 games.
