I had exactly what you described from 2001-2007, and the hardest part about it is that no one can help you. DONT take pills for it! For god sakes, please dont. Depression is a natural chemical reaction in your brain and putting foreign man made chemicals into it will only mask it and drag it out longer. I wish I could tell you how to snap out of it, but as you know, its not that easy. You are taking the right steps. Just keep physically healthy and keep yourself busy and one day, you will realize you havent felt the symptons for years. (yeah, it takes that long.) Good luck on all of your endeavors, I cant wait to watch the 26.2 marathon! Actually, most of the depression drug treatments are serotonin reuptake-inhibitors. In a simple sort of way, serotonin is responsible for stabilizing your mood. It does a lot more than that, but most pharmacological agents, with regards to mental illness, work on the principle of making your own neurotransmitters work like they should. Sometimes your body needs a bit of extra help. It's no different then a Type I diabetic needing insulin because his/her pancreas just isn't doing what it should be. There's no shame in that, and it's stigma like the above that gives a lot of potential treatments a really bad name. Depression is not a natural chemical reaction - typically it's a result of real life circumstances combined with an imbalance in your neurotransmitters. In some cases it's difficult to say which causes which. With that said, I have nothing against you being against it - many people are, and that's completely your right. My only compliant is that you should really get educated about this sort of stuff if you're going to give advice on it. I was once mis-disagnosed with depression, and what I actually have is equally debilitating (myalgic encephalitis), but when you're not feeling right, you do what you need to to feel better. That's what it really comes down to. Whatever does that for you and gets you to that point, that's what matters. Not everyone is the same. Congrats on beating your bout of it - that's pretty huge. Do what you need to Tyler. You're a cool cat and you have lots of support around here. I hope things start looking up for you soon. | ||
