This is, indeed, my first blog post here on TL, and I am excited to share my experiences and thoughts about Starcraft 2 with everyone who ends up reading this. This is still going to be somewhat introspective and written for myself more than the community, but I just wanted to present it in a public fashion. This initial post is going to be a little long, but that is because I want to create a good foundation that I can expand upon, and I wanted to reflect upon this last year and how I got to where I am now.

Let us begin the tale of Syrupjuice:
Now, as I have said, this week last year was when I played my first game of Starcraft2. I actually had not even known what Starcraft (as a whole) was up until the week before I got Starcraft. I had heard my friends talk about how they were excited about the second one coming out, and how it had been 12 years since the first one was released, but I didn't see the need to look into it at all. It wasn't until one of my friends forced one of those free 7 hour trials into my hands and told me to go play it, did I really learn what Starcraft was.
I went home and put the game onto my laptop and watched the little slideshow it played while it installed, and was hooked immediately. I was then really disappointed when I learned that my laptop was awful lol! You see, I have a MacBook pro. Yes, it is not a PC (I know), and is not very optimal for playing games. But I got the computer for school (as I am a Design major) and had not even thought about playing games on it. Anyway, my mac could not run the campaign AT ALL. It would freeze anytime it auto-saved, and the time it took to get through those parts just was not worth it to me to continue the story I had been introduced to. So, I wasn't allowed to play online because it was a trial pass, so I tried my hand at playing against the computer.
I was awful xD Oh my goodness, it was not good lol
I decided to go with Zerg without considering any of the other races. I played Tyranids in Warhammer 40k, and I like the fast unit game play, so it was a quick decision for me. But, it was really hard to get my head wrapped around all of the aspects of the game. I had never played an RTS game before, and I had an awful mouse that I did not want to play with. I did not want to play with the track pad either ('cause that's just silly), but I did have a tablet and pen that I used for all of my design work for school, so I was already really comfortable with it, so I decided that I would play with that.
I played as many games in the 7 hours as I could. I ended up using it up in 2 days, and told my friend that I needed to get the game. There was a problem though… I had no money. Well, after about 2 days of lurking on forums and watching Husky and Day[9] videos (I owe both of them a lot for getting me into the game) my friend called me into his work. I get there and he hands me the game and says that I didn't have to pay him back, and that it was a gift.
I immediately started to play online with my practice league games. I played about 8 of them, but was losing every game because… well, because I sucked probably, lol, but I thought the way the maps were not set in a fair way for all of the races. I went online and read a few post in the forum that said that you should just scrap the practice league and play on the real ladder. So, I did that and played on the real ladder. I placed Bronze 98th and continued to lose all my games lol. It was a long 12 games before I had my first win. On August 26th I won my first game of Starcraft 2 and got 26 points to my name.
MLG soon came to their Raleigh stop, and Starcraft 2 was being featured on the circuit for the first time. I originally wasn't going to go, but my friends convinced me to. And thank goodness they did! MLG was amazing. The atmosphere was incredible! I got Husky to sign my tablet and was one of the kids who had him sign a multitude of things (I had wanted to get Day[9] to sign it as well, but I had to leave before he had a chance to meet with the fans : / ) and seeing all of these extremely talented players was life changing for me. It was at that convention that I decided that I wanted to help the community grow in whatever way I could.
After the convention, I really buckled down and I played a lot.
Fastfoward a year, and I am sitting at just under Top 8 Diamond and will be playing in MLG Raleigh this year. I know I am not going to do exceptionally well at the LAN, but I had promised myself that I would play in the event the next year (or which ever event was the closest to me). I have met a lot of people through the game and I have strengthen several friendships through the game. My goal for this LAN is to get a foot into the competitive gaming arena, as well as to get Day[9] to sign my tablet (since I missed him last year ;_; ). I don't mind if I don't do well, I'm just super excited to get to play, and to meet people, and to just really enjoy all the community has to offer!
I'm not into Starcraft for the fame, or the money. I play Stacraft for the love of the game and the community.
Best of luck! c: c: c:
