Hey everyone! It's been a long couple years since I last posted here, I've been a lurker with an inactive account for a very long time.

So let's just get this blog going. It might be a bit of a long blog

Where I'm Coming from

There are so many people I have listened to/heard talking about their dreams and aspirations over the 19(almost 20!) years of my life: friends, family members, strangers in the streets, fellow college students in the dorm hallways, people talking in the bathroom. I admit, that last one is weird, but who hasn't heard people talking in the bathroom while they take care of business?

Everyone's talking about completely different things on completely unrelated topics that they glean their dreams and aspirations from: a heroic rescue by a fireman, an inspiring physics student who overcame all odds to get into a great college, a simple kind act by a complete stranger. But ask yourself this: do people talk about their dreams and act upon their aspirations, or do most people just talk and do nothing at all? Think about it: which type of person are you?

I feel that there's a good amount of people who follow through sometimes, but just talk and do nothing the other many times they get the chance. Why? Because it's easier to do. Some of us are lazy; some of us are busy. We're all different, but there is no doubt that at least some people just do the talking and not the acting.

I know that I'm the person who talks and follows through with action, but in many opportunities, I just talk and don't act. Why? It depends on the situation: I get lazy, I get scared, I don't know what to do, etc. etc. Take for example the influx of relationship rant/advice please!/story blogs. I can relate this topic to that, but that will have to wait for another day.

What really hit me was when I was having dinner with my family and my mom's co-workers. They were talking about the increase in tuition for UC schools, and how much more money the 10% increase in tuition meant for a family with a son going to UCLA and a daughter going to UCSB. I've tried making money on the Internet since my dad started years ago and introduced the idea to me, but I never made much. I told my dad to not worry and that I will find a way, but my dad told me that I only talk, I try but I don't get results, like him.

I realized that this needs to stop. If I can be a man of my word and find a way to make some money while I go to school, money will be less of a burden for my family. But no, this thing, just talking and not acting, is not just a problem with making money. I have missed so many things because of this, so many people, so many opportunities, so many moments.

This is a problem, a flaw of character. I want to become a better person.

So I'm going to start a "project" to be A Man of My Word.

My Goals
There are three things that I really want to achieve and progress for the next couple years of my life:

1. Find a way to make money on the Internet. By the end of the year, be able to make enough money to pay at least half of tuition
2. Training for ultimate frisbee: go to the gym on chosen days(3 days/week), train hard, play hard, make A team(I'm very good about this, but I just wanted to put this here so I keep my goals in mind)
3. Get at least a 3.5 GPA every quarter.

So, that's about it for now. I'll put up an intro about myself and a little about my goals tomorrow or some time soon.

Go be a man worthy of your word.

The reason people talk but don't act is because failure is a bitch. She will cock slap you back to age of empires

If you can deal with that, then I think what you're doing is awesome. Good luck mate

Was AoE really that long ago? lol OT: Sometimes, though, you think "Just this one time, I'll skip", and once you get into that mentality, its hard coming back. If you don't have that mentality, you'll do great in your goals. Good luck.

Lmao, literally laughed out loud at the office when I read that!

Good luck, making money on the internet isn't obvious however

Yea it isn't obvious, but there are ways. My dad knows a couple friends who do that stuff, so I got some ideas from them and will put them to use as soon as I'm done with my own research

Do not, I repeat, do not do anything remotely related to SEO. It's no longterm sustainable business model, and Panda has shaken things up really badly.

I think 3.5 is very doable, ultimate frisbee A team still quite doable given that you have the talent and are willing to put in the effort, but the internet money... I don't know. Anyhow, I wish you the best and hope you can be a man of your word!

What happened, and what do you mean?

Actually, what does "SEO" even mean in this context? I thought it was just making your site easier for webbots to navigate?

SEO is just the process of making your website "higher ranked" on search engines i.e. Yahoo, Google, Bing. So if you want to do anything remotely close to Internet marketing/money-making, knowledge and use of SEO is pretty much a must, so I don't know how it's not long-term, sustainable, and a great business model. I think Celial is talking more along the lines of what you can use with SEO to make money, i.e. Google ads, paid advertisements, etc.

In more simpler/simple mathematical terms:
SEO(not just any, but smart and efficient SEO) = traffic
traffic = more people looking at your website
more people looking at your website = more opportunities to make money

Nope sorry. About two months ago a shitton of the biggest names in SEO business went belly up. Google implemented new search algorithms. It turned the world upside down, sites who were sandboxed and kept only around as landers or examples suddenly began to rank, most pages who were pushed simply by SEO disappeared into the sandbox and have still to come out.

It is no sustainable business model, because if you decide to make a career out of scamming Google, well you have to put in shitton of work and the second they change their algorithms everything is lost and you have to begin from scratch to crack their methods. And their updates are coming faster. This isn't 2005 anymore. Google is coming closer and closer to their goal of showing only relevant content. Hell, just look how good their context interpretation became in the past four years. Everyone who wants to get started, screw SEO. Paid traffic, PPC/PPV, is the way to go. Oh and stay away from Google there too. Their Quality Score system sucks balls nowadays. Try to find traffic sources that no one else uses. No one is going to tell your where they spend their money - because if someone else begins to advertise on a platform, click costs rise.

I'll give you a starting point where you can begin looking into "MMO" (Make Money Online). But pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase. Take everything, fucking everything with not only a grain, but a pound of salt. And don't spend money on eBooks or courses or whatever. There are products out there that warrant a purchase, access to certain private boards come to mind, but all the info you need is right there under your nose. Oh and please, after you are dazed and dazzled and awestruck by what you see, start digging deeper. The two sites I'm going to link are... eyecandy mostly. Although Shoe knows what he does, his blog is not very good.

Start your journey by reading these two guys:
http://www.johnchow.com/
http://www.shoemoney.com/

Oh and stay the fuck away from DigitalPoint and WarriorForum. Resist their fucking tempation. Both sites are BAD. Although you can make a nice living by scamming people on WF. But that's a complete different story.
Do not regret. Always forward, never back.

Thanks for the warning. I know that there's a way to make money by "scamming" the system, but I don't really have a model yet, and I don't plan on scamming the system or people.

I'm trying things out that I haven't seen before. And I somewhat agree with you on "not sustainable"; it's constantly changing and it's really, REALLY hard to keep up with change, but at the same time, I feel that the person working is responsible for setting up a plan that can fight along with the change. It may be that I'm just a little too naive, but I"m hoping I can make a plan that can at least last for a while.

On the other hand, I COMPLETELY agree with you about taking everything with not a grain, but a pound of salt. A pound of salt might be an understatement. I've been on the blogging/trying-to-MMO scene for long enough to know that DigitalPoint/WarriorForum are both terrible, and that eBooks and paid private boards are equally bad since there's so much free information everywhere.

I'll look at those sites right now. In the mean time, thanks for the reality check!
