I just played a really long (45+ minutes) ZvT on Shattered that was extremely frustrating.
By that, I mean, I was head 2 bases, 20+ food and 20+ workers almost the entire game, but simply.couldn't.kill.my.opponent.
Eventually he got ahead on upgrades, which made it worse, but that wasn't true the majority of the game. I just don't know what I needed to do or could have done to end/win this game.
I don't know what I did wrong, or what? This is a really frustrating replay to watch (for me).

Well essentially I noticed that it boiled down to several things: 1. You kept throwing the wrong unit composition at him. He was heavy on the marauder/tanks, so making mutas earlier would've really benefited you. You would've been able to pick off stray tanks and marauders. His marine count was VERY low, so a good muta ball would've destroyed his composition. 2. You kept throwing your army away. If an engagement looks like it's gone awry, pull out immediately, it's better to lose units while retreating instead of losing an army all-together. Also, even if you win battles, don't just rush in to kill bases and whatnot; poke in, see what kind of damage you can do and assess whether it's worth it to commit or not. If you find yourself with an army advantage, but unable to kill him, sit back and make use of your map presence by expanding or even harassing him.

20+ food in roaches is literally nothing
stop making roaches after you get on like 3 bases and towards the end of midgame, especially when they're actually adding marauders in their composition
there's nothing more to say, if you had your food in lings/banes instead of roaches you'd have won easily
and going broods/corrupters earlier than 35 minutes into the game would've helped too..

Basically, you wasted time.
You engaged at times when you shouldn't have (at least on two occasions), and you stayed on roach tech for far to long. The spire should have been dropped far sooner, his bases were naked in terms of anti air defense. As soon as you had three base comfortably (around 14 minutes you should have started hive + melee upgrades).
You let him get ahead by sticking to your game plan and not adapting to his counter. He countered your roach/baneling/infestor composition by going heavy marauder + tank. It took you far to long to put 1 and 2 together (brood lords or mass mutas asap) which led him to simply taking his side of the map without you getting in any meaningful harassment or damage. If a terran is taking the gold, you seriously need to step it up and get broods asap, especially with a composition like the one he was using.
It's very frustrating facing a terran who isn't aggressive but instead uses common sense and realizes 'if I can stay on a similar par with his macro (supply + upgrades) I'm probably going to win the game'. If this is the case, you gotta harass (and not with roaches) all while getting brood lords.
